Is it possible to edit the files in the EVE directory? The files i have in mind (If possible) would be to edit the "Keep at Range" as I would like to have a keep at range function set to something like 8,000 instead of the normal ranges.
Or if it isnt possible, have it so the Keep at Range and Orbit have the ability to allow us to ype into the options window a prefered custom range that we can use/setup before launch.
I know its a small thing but I thought it would be nice than the current settings. So is it possible to edit something?
Thanks -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Edited by: Veruna Caseti on 12/11/2003 22:05:09 If it's possible, it would be in violation of the EULA.
That said, even if you could edit the text of the "Keep at Range" menu, you would likely not effect the functionality. It would be like renaming an icon on your desktop "Win Lottery" and then double clicking on it to see if you hit the jackpot.
You do raise an interesting point though - EVE's interface is one of its strong features, but more customization options might take it to an even higher level.
Creating custom right-click menus would be a great addition. Right-click on ship for "Launch all combat drones" anyone?

CCP in their brilliance, fixed the orbiting menu so you could choose from a larger number of more suitable distances. However, they weren't smart enough to also fix the "Keep at range" menu while they were at it.

I'll take one of those right click on ship "Launch combat drones", especially for those whoops i need them now moments and the less clicks and keystrokes the better.

Greetings, I believe that any tampering with files would be treading on thin ice and thus I strongly advise against it. If you feel changes are needed, the best thing to do would be to make suggestions on the EVE Idea Lab part of this forum and let the devs do it for you.

Not to dispute anything. But what is with this EULA deal about tampering with files. I thought that all vital components were saved server-side anyways. I have this funny feeling that cheaters don't follow Licence Agreements.
I think this game should have a bunch of editable files stored client-side for things like custom pulldown menus. It would make the game much funner to play with.
I've found that even single player games with the ability to make or change code, tend to have larger communities than the rest.

Thanks Grimmi, but you just made it sound like that this is your opinion and not CCPs stance on the issue. I promise I won't tinker with the files but if there was a way to, I thought it would be nice just to do it myself instead of waiting for a patch. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
