If you're getting tons of socket closures it's at your end plain and simple. You might be paying for what you think is a stable high speed connection but that doesn't mean it's what you're getting. Turning off your firewall's isn't the end all be all. There are a lot of other things that can be causing your instability. From your PC, to your router/modem, to other people on your network in your home or even in you neighborhood depending on the connection type, to your ISP itself. "We" aren't experiencing socket closures, you are. CCP isn't the problem.

I actually had this problem a couple years ago turns out after a traceroute and some win tool I used to map the connection it was on an at&t box 6 hops from my house. Needless to say after 6 techs over two weeks we told at&t to get bent. The competition isn't all that great either but at least 90% of the time I have no socket issues. Look into your provider.

Turns out that its just eve being super sensitive
If you are in virgin media and have this issue, just turn the damned thing into modem mode and buy a decent router |

I had this recently, what I noticed was the socket closes were taking place at exactly one hour apart - after doing some digging, for myself it turned out that the router (I'm also on Virgin media) 'leases' the IP for one hour and then resets it. At the time it reset it I lost connection to the internet for approx 2 seconds which was enough to cause a socket closed. I went into the router settings and changed the lease time to 1 week (maximum) which solved the problem for me.
Not saying it will work for yourself or others, but worth making a note of each time the time the socket drops and see if a pattern develops. If it does then check your IP lease time to see if its the same time and if so change it to max |
