I didnt think that I used to get sec status increases from battleships in lev 4 missions in the past, but yesterday doing Vengence against the serpentis, I got several sec status increases.
As I understand it, the increase comes 10 min after the ship kill that trigers it. If so: Core Vice Admiral: 0.195% Core Commodore: 0.165% (several times) Core Rear Admiral: 0.175% Core Port Admiral: 0.17%
Also in the Pirate Invasion (vs angels) Gist Commander: 0.16% Gist General: 0.165%
Have other people been getting these gains in missions? How do they compare with the gains from 0.0 battleships?

I can't remember at time when I didn't get sexc status increase from missions. Admitedly I'm only going back a year or so here, but I thought this was part and parcel of missions against pirate corps.
Certainly doing level 4s has cuased my sec status to shoot up a fair bit.

I believe someone said that your sec standing stops going up from regular rats at 5.0? Someone might be able to verify that. Mine just hit 5.0 last night so I'll know in a week or so. Almost ALL my security standing comes from ship in missions. I might have killed like 200 Frigate size rats:)

I have asked questions on this subject before and I have still yet to find a rock solid answer on the matter.
As soon as I hit 5.0 and this was from both ratting and mission running it was like hitting a brick wall. No matter what I did I was seeing no increases anywhere.
This was when I started asking questions and ended up just forgeting about it. Then a friend who was close to 5.0 suddenly reached it and the next thing I knew they were at 5.1...then within a couple of weeks they were at 5.2.
We were both running missions on and off and neither of us ratting. I was primarily doing level 4s and my friend was mainly on level 3s with the occasional 4 for good measure. Theoretically I would have said I would increase faster than my friend due to me doing 4s rather than 3s....but it dont seem to work like that. I then went on a mad mission spree and still no increases then all of a sudden over a period of one evening I suddenly started getting increasments and went up to 5.1. ...Then nothing again for over a month no matter what I was doing.
Couple of weeks later I have suddenly had exact same happen and am up to 5.2 and my friend has had exact same happen and is up to 5.3.
I just find it all very bizzare and no set pattern to it all makes it very confusing.
I actually had a conversation with a guy who was 9.9 the other day and heard his thoughts behind it but cant honestly remember all he said so dont want to quote him on here.
If ANYONE at all knows the answer to this then please do post as it is driving me mad. I am by no means a carebear after the ultimate 10.0 (which I am convinced is not possible 9.99999 maybe) but I would like to understand more about it.

I did the "A case for kidnapping" L4 story mission and farmed it for a week (17m bounties and good loot). I didn't gain any sec status at all. And thats after killing several dozen EoM battleships.
And my alt that did the killing, is only around 2.1 or so.

It depends on the respective missions. Some give an increase, some do not. --*=*=*--
The cause for this is not yet known, but we do have a possible fix in testing. by Sharkbait | 2006.09.20 |

I also hit 5.0 8 months ago and after increase seem sporadic and rare. About every 2-3 months i got an increase (now at 5.3) but cannot find any logic behind that. Also, ive send a mail to a guy who has 9.9 (might be 1 mentionned by Esab) about this but he didn't respond

Edited by: Marvin on 24/11/2006 01:49:59 I've been 5.0 shortly after they cut back the sec status by 50%, and been playing since, with long pauses though, by now I would think I should be a bit more than that....something is not right.
And I don't seem to get any increase in sec status from any misson....kill or hauling.

I wish you were correct there but I am 99% sure thats wrong.. I have kept a close eye on when I have actually had increments and it is most definetly not any particular mission.

If your Sec status is 5.0 then your sec status gains become VERRRRRRRRRRRRRY! slow from that point on. Even if you were to take on the entire NPC pirate population of eve single handedly you would still take a year or six to get to 6.0 sec status.

hey hey
sec status is confuising as hell and ive also yet to have any concrete evidence about how it works.
i was informed that sec status however gained only adds the highest gain per mission and even then it only add the highest gain every 20mins or so.
eg's take mission and kill lots of npc's 3x ships give yo a sec gain (checkable via info ingame etc.) and our sec status increases by the highest gain rather than the 3 combined gains.
low sec ratting increase. Kill ship, check for gain warp to SS for 20mins check when it adds. rinse repeat.
some times ive never seen any sec increases till you relog. ?
either way if you check your sec gain logs its hard to determine which and how many gains add and when :(
Would love to be enlightened about sec gains tbh. many thanks in advance

Sec status gains are the best increase in any rolling 15 minute period IIRC. This is whether you are missioning or low sec ratting.
To get any sort of decent gains i.e. to recover sec status lost from podding someone in error you need to be killing NPC battleships.
Sometimes when you right click you portrait in local chat and "view member details" it will show your Sec status from some time ago. It doesn't seem to update instantly. Relogging seem to fix this.
