I'm thinking of things along the lines of faction/officer modules or implants, so probably not more than about 150m^3 of items at a time in total, when it becomes difficult to find people willing to pay sufficient collateral and expensive to pay them to courier the items for you.
I'm mainly interested in high-sec hauling, or from low sec to high sec.
My first guess would be a covert ops frigate, but I'd like to hear people's comments on less skill-intensive alternatives. Apart from Chribba's preferred method, that is... ---------- An idea for helping people to appreciate ECCM |

As far as high sec goes, it's worth the time to insta the route, and test it, before you load your items. The use of instas pretty much guarantees you will make it through high sec whatever ship you choose. Your most vulnerable part is your alignment before warping to the next gate, so try to stick a moderately quick and small vehicle, maybe a Condor or Kestrel if you're Caldari.
Secondly, tell noone. Not even the best friend you've had for the last 7 years. Nobody.
Thirdly, and this might help with the low sec part. Make your run 10 seconds after downtime. As little as 5 minutes after downtime, and the low sec gate gankers are likely to be back in place.
Lastly, don't post on the forums that you are going to be moving high value items some time soon. Dude, leave those items where they are for the next 3 months at least. Some people, perhaps many people, will follow your movements from now until eternity after reading it. I hope you posted with an alt. Me and my corp are totally pro. Really uber and evryfink. highs small rails 125 and whatever else you can fit fit mid slot mwd, em shield hardner t2, and rest large shield extenders t2 lows 4x named wcs
drones whatever medium / light.
you get around 6k shields with decent resists, 4 wcs, fast ship, excellent agility.
i use this all the time to fly from empire 30 jumps into 0.0, pickup faction loot and fly back.
flown thru gate camps, been attacked, survived everything.
it is a touch skill intensive but not as much as a covert ops ship. but the ship only costs around 20-30 mill nad doesnt need a cloak that costs over 50 mill.

Huge value high sec hauling, solo, you do it in a battleship. Plated, with instas.
Most of the time though, you want instas and a plated Claw (400mm, damage control, 2 nanos).

I would be surprised anything could catch you.
at 5k m/s I would not even bother with the instas...
with auto pilot this poppy takes 3 sec to close in on the gate and instant gate jump no need to go clicky just make sure you hit mwd as soon as you get out of warp.

High sec:
Plated out battleship, instas not required.
or
Anything that alligns quick + instas, the danger here is a black screen out of say, jita 4 while your invuln timer runs out, some bastard decides to suicide a battleship with smartbombs and you die. Then you get to wait a month for the "logs don't show anything" A similar thing could happen if they were looking for you, disposable destroyers will easily gank a fragile frigate under the guns.
or
Freighter for now til they make them drop loot, then you can bet they will be getting suicided by raven gank squads.
Low sec:
Disposable alt scout + cov ops + cov ops cloak covers you pretty well.
or
Carrier jump it into a backwater low sec system.

Edited by: Sakura Nihil on 24/11/2006 17:13:54 What kind of volume are we talking about here? If its <100 m^3, I'd recommend an interceptor - nothing says "**** you gankers!" like them seeing a Curse BPO go by at 4 km/s.
If its bigger, say 150-500 m^3, and really valuable, say like a few hundred mil, I'd go tanked BS, preferably with instas just to be very safe, but even without them you'd be fine.

If I did anything with this character, I'd probably go for something with a Covert Ops Cloak. Otherwise, I will naturally be using an alt
I like the idea of an Oneiros for this sort of thing, I have to admit, but it would take longer to train for that. 200m^3 of goodies in a Cheetah is easily enough.
Apart from not bumping into things, is there anything useful to know about when attempting to get a covert ops frigate through a gatecamp?

Executioner, 2x Nanos, 1x MWD, 1x Cap Recharger
Takes about 30 mins to train Amarr Frigate II to use, goes at 3KM/sec, aligns and warps faster than anything in the game can lock you, and only costs between 100-200K to buy and fit.
With instas (or Revs Warp to 0), nothing will be able to lock you to scan you in the first place.
I use them for playing with people who attempt to highsec gank by can stealing.

Yes, practice timing of activating/deactivating the cloak in just the right moment. Sounds easy, and only get's you another split second, but this split second can safe your ship.

A freighter.
It's got the most hitpoints, so many you'd need an alliance fleet to take it down before concord wtfbbq's your gang, and it doesn't drop loot, removing the most obvious motivation for anyone trying in the first place.
Low sec route ?
either nanod vaga, oneiros, covops, or inty.

Edited by: Sakura Nihil on 24/11/2006 17:51:14 To sum up the answers:
- Speed, an interceptor if you can use one, or one of the tier2 fast frigates (atron, slasher, executioner, condor) with nanos and MWD - Tanks or hitpoints, a freighter, tanked BS, or T2 indy ftw here - Stealth, covops frigate
All of these are really valid, it just depends on the circumstances to determine which one is best for you.

In low-sec, probably a covert ops. Or something with a jump drive - why fear gate camps, if you don't use gates?
In hi-sec, there are a plethora of options. With small items, there are so many that I can't help laughing whenever I read someone whining about hi-sec suicide gankers stealing his BPOs. Basically, pick anything that has enough cargo and can't be one-volleyed by a few battleships. Plenty of T1 ships fit the bill.
With large items, the principle is the same, but there aren't that many tough ships with 10K+ cargo space, and none of them is terribly cheap. But you would be a fool to be cheap on the ship you're using to carry billions. So use a freighter or a T2 hauler.
