I found some nasty rates that hmm, made me loose my Apoc. I had 3 mwd on for scouting and 4 tachs and a smart bomb.
Looked away from screen a few sec and didn't instantly see that rates spawned on top of me. I couldn't warp away or fly away from them (I only moved at 15m/s even with 3mwd on). And my tachs just couldn't hit them fast enough when they were at 800m. What would be the best way to survive in a situation like this? Except just don't let them come close.
I would have survived if I didn't have 3mwd on, and a shield booster I think i would have survived (didn't have space and didn't really plan to fight, just figured I would fly away from them at 50km/s). Also with perhaps 3 close range medium guns I should be able to take em out faster. And of course if I saw them and instantly moved away. But if you are hunting rates for hours and hours moving around, it's nice to be able to look away for 10sec without risking your ship. So anyone have any better ideas.

Let me just make sure - you lost your ship to NPC pirates cos they webbed u right? But u had 3 MWDs fitted and still only got 50m/s out of the ship. What type of crystals were you carrying on the tachs? This all seems a bit bizzare to me

If you did 15m/s with 3 MWD's it sounds more like you were stuck on a asteroid than being webbed.

Were you close to a roid? Sounds more like you were roid-snared, otherwise 3 MWD would have assuredly got you safe. Killgorde

Heavy drones woulda sorted em out at that range. As for your 15m/s you musta been stuck on a roid cause 3 MWDs woulda allowed you to run away faster than that..

Could it be possible you by mistake clicked the speed row and altered the desired speed and thus only allowing you to travel at 20% max speed, because from my expiriance only one webifier is used on you by NPC and it does not matter how many of them you are fighting, but that might have been changed since I last fought NPC about 3 months ago Spawn of the Devil

3 MWDs > 3 fleeting propulsion webs. You'd get ~450m/s (base speed 150, each MWD 800%) out of an apoc. So even if it was player rats with 3 webs, you should've gotten out. Hmmmm.

Hi guys. No I wasn't even remotely close to a roid or anything for this matter. 2 ships approached me at about 5km one 40k and one 20k. then i hit mwd, but the ship didn't gain speed. I switched crystals on my tachs to multi frequency, i had radio on since i was previously shooting a ships at 70km. I did hit sometimes with my tachs, but just not fast enough. I was first shooting at the 40k but he was dying to slow so i begun shooting at the 20k, which probably was a misstake because he was even harder to hit. I didn't run the mwd all the time since cap was running out fast with 3mwd and 4 tachs running. One time i begun accelerating to perhaps 70m/s but then it deaccelerated and i begun flying slow too.
This was in the Outer Ring area i think. I never seen this happen anywhere else. The locals said it happened sometimes.
It could be that my ship speed has been altered, but that would be the first time then. I had encountered this slow down earlier when hunting these pirates, but never figured out what it was, I thought it was a bug actually. So, what do you think?

Also. Heavy combat drones would have saved my ship I'm pretty sure. but drone space isn't that big for Apoc, so I can only have about 4 of them when i have a load of harvesters. Since i had 3mwd my shield was so slow so it all went very fast. It also took some time before i realized i was in serious trouble and then i spent a little time to get help, it came but a little too late. I also tried to take em out with smart bombs but they did little good.
So, some of my main misstakes: - don't have 3mwd on for fighting - have at least some med close range weapons. - have more heavy drones ready. - obviously don't let them get close. - perhaps hunt other pirates that can't shut of engines. - have shield booster (i had a warp core stab)

To my defence I should hmm, note that i didn't have it fully compat ready since i figure i should always be able to run with the setup i had. /Phoibos

I think you shouldn't scout on an Apoc.
If you're going to leave your ship that vulnerable, I'd use a cheaper, faster ship. ------------------------------------------- "My main griveance with the Caldari state was that once I had finished my work for them, they wanted me dead."

The thing was I had to locate an item that was over 100000km out in the blue... So even with 3mwd flying at 116000km/s it still took 25min to fly there. So with a cheaper ship it would take forever. /Phoibos

Edited by: Toulak on 13/11/2003 15:11:45 You can equip 6 heavy drones in an apoc which woulda done the job..

Oh you didnt have a shield booster? Well that says it all right there, you should never leave home without one.

You should have been easily able to escape with 3 MWD's. Did you have them on autorepeat? Was your speed set to 100%.
If your MWD's were not on autorepeat: 150m/s * 0.2 = 30m/s (assuming -80% speed)
Also, why were you firing tachs? Just turn on the MWD's and get out of range. Big guns are useless at close range. (especially with the fact you had no shield recharge, and the huge shield/cap hit).
It was unfortunate what happened to you, but I think with a quick head you might have been able to save your ship.
P.S: They are "rats" not "rates".

Adrenaline. Yes, of course they were on autorepeat and i normally always have the speed on 100%, so this should not have been the case either.
And yes, cruiser missiles could have been a saver. The thing was i went pretty far out where there are few things to be bought at stations. So med guns were selling for 200k/each. Normally it is extremely easy to move the ship away at several thousand meters/s. but this time the ship didn't move and inch, even with 3 mwd on. So the main thing i'm really asking for if anyone knows if there is a way to actually move the ship if this happens again. I was previously combating 6*40 pirates at range. If i had a spawn of these at close range and you get stuck then you are in trouble even with better preparations than my scouting ship had.

When trapped and webbed by multiple targets, your best bet is to pay them, and hope they're of the right calibre to let you go free.
Oh.. wait..
You're talking about the no-negotiation, kill-all-on-sight, non talking, no purpose AI pirates?
That's different.
Short of lubing yourself up for the inevitable, there's not much you can do.
I think the best idea would be to start asking around about getting a new ship. .

Um. Don't fit 3 MWDs. Not active ones anyways. Scout in a Blackbird with 5 ABs, and 1 MWD. Still decent shields and cap, and super fast. With good cap and Nav skills you can run all 6 for 5 minutes straight (if not indefintely). I don't scout in a battleship. Too slow, too hard to turn, to hard to replace.

There is a bug that has happened to me on occasion that when you are warp jammed and webified that the MWDs fail to work properly. Thankfully I was able to blast my way out of it with multiple Heavy Pulse Lasers and drones. I've had it happen to me on three different occasions, typically when the rats spawn less then 10 Km from me. It's the reason I carry 3 Heavy Pulse Lasers and alot of combat drones on my Armageddon.

i remember having had weird speed behaviour, too.
was mining in high sec space, so no trouble.
but felt strange to limb home with a thorax that wouldn t go faster than 20 ...
my guess is that it is another display bug: being stuck to an invisible roid...
