Edited by: Sawirek on 24/11/2006 19:19:14 Ok at the E3 this year CCP mentioned two new clients , one that will support DX 9.0c and one for Vista that will support DX 10. As i saw in the screenshots the only things that are going to get an update are the ships textures and some lightning effects (soft and self shadows, bloom , HDR (thats that uber cool thing that makes everything with white color looks like it has a 200W light bulp in it)). I got a suggestion for you CCP , but first you must look at this:
NEXUS II Tech demo
These boys got an graphic engine that is soo woot and they don't have resources to put it to use, there are many ppl playing eve that played and liked first Nexus and all of us are sad that Nexus 2 won't be seeing the light of the day probably, but imagine these developers to work on EvE Graphic Engine, you got your "Best Graphics in MMORPG Award" problem solved for a long time i think , don't mention the atmosfere and impression impact.

HDi have the added bonus of knowing exactly how many objects they would have on screen at one time. CCP don't have a clue, and so it's much harder to work a suitable LOD in. ---

A much more productive idea would be for CCP to buy out NEXUS II and make that EVE Offline people keep asking for out of it -----------------------------------------------

Yeah i know, but it seems to me that Nexus 1 engine could draw a hell lot more things and effects than EvE, you notice it if you play multiplayer in Nexus.

Offline games will always (Personaly) beat Online games in the graphics dept.. it's not the graphics that bring people to MMO's is the fact you can play vs other RL people.
I'd play eve if it was 2d with text... and sometimes I wish it was.

Edited by: Inir Ishtori on 24/11/2006 19:46:02 nexus 2 was cancelled? what a pity, the first game was great
eve online needs some better weapon effects and explosions imo. what i've seen so far is a bit dull and somewhat boring(yes, even missiles and torps) although highly functional. i won't "advise" or "demand" that the devs copy nexus effects, i just like to consider them to bring some more graphical "oopmh" to weapons and explosions(and invent some nice warp effect too )
p.s: btw, could a dev or a mod give some more information on that topic? will there be some new stuff besides new ship models and textures or not? __________________________________________________ a manly man with a female avatar |

Eve is the only space MMO that i know of... I wonder what will happen when Eve isnt the only one... Entire games have been made and released and we still have lag.. Off topic, but, will eve`s graphics engine be superior/on par with the sompetition when the update is released? Gentlemen, start your flame throwers.

There is already an annoucment that developers that created Elite are making an online game based on Elite.

The first Nexus game was great, despite the technical flaws. I've never had a space combat game make me recoil back from the screen from the sheer cataclysmic violence of the explosions before.
Even the smallest ship explosion in that game made the Death Star's demise look like a Hutt belch.

Edited by: DefJam101 on 24/11/2006 21:28:48 That is some superb looking graphics but it has a few flaws, IMO 1. Ship design is in general, generic and boring looking, blocky and kinda lo-tech 2. The GFX used for the weapons looks kinda stupid, although rendered nicely, doesn't fit in well, could be fixed.
Other than that..

Those graphics look awesome. However I bet that in a MMORPG environment things would have to be scaled down a bit. You don't see HL2 graphics in WoW do you?
It's easy for SP/MP type of games since you can add limits for certain things, in a MMORPG like EVE that's not really a option.
Still, it's quite cool. If CCP bought the engine and incorporated it (or at least parts of it) into EVE I bet it would look great.
