Hi, Im planning on getting a assault frigate, i am Claldari so thiswould get either a Hawk or Harpy. I can use full T2 fittings for both. What do people think is the best solo PvP option, the best anti interceptor option and the best gang option and why?
Thanks in advance for any help :)

Hawk very good tank, i do lvl3 mission with rocket Harpy better dps Anti inty = hawk can be a very good anti inty with precision missile harpy snipe (spike ammo) can be very good anti inty or for contact use statis with 125mm (good tracking, for me hawk, better anti inty. For solo i prefer harpy with neutron blaster, good dps, hawk have poor dps but better tank (why bonus damage kinetic 5% and not bonus RoF 5% by level ) For gang depend ur role ;) (sry for my english)

Because of this i would pick the hawk for anti inty and solo pvp because mossiles dont have to track whereas you might have some trouble against certain interceptors in a harpy dependent on its setup.

ive had months of experience on both ships in all types of pvp exept fleets and ive got to say that with my exodus- out of the box fittings the hawk owns every other af so easy its not even funny ( btw im not giving it up ,(its getting heavy nerf in kali ;( ) )

Just curious what is your setup and how is it getting nerfed in kali?

Thanks for all the replys. Public opinion appears to be pretty split overall. The hawk seems to be best all rounder, but im tempted by the huge sniper potential of the harpy (I do a fair bit of solo PvP however so this could be a bit useless as i couldnt scram from long distance), so still cant decide

Neither Hawk or Harpy is particularly good as a solo PvP ship. Harpy with T2 150's and Spike doesn't have the alpha strike to take down much. Sure, it'll pop a dumb inty pilot who comes straight at you with MWD blazing. You might even pop a T1 frig or a hauler without instas, but mostly anything bigger will get away unless you have someone to lock them down. This problem is only going to get worse after Revelations Pt 1 as everything will have more hit points, so the chance of making a kill whilst the target is still in the 'Spike zone' is much less - especially as Spike range is being reduced, and the stacking tracking penalty really hurts when ships get closer.
Harpy has a big hole in it's EM resists which leading to a situation where choosing the midslots always leaves something vulnerable if you're tackling. You obviously need a scram, and probably a web or AB as almost everything (including some cruisers) is faster than you. Usual fit is a T2 or Gisti Atype AB, A small shield booster is a popular choice - again T2 or Gisti Atype SSB (if you can afford it). That leaves 1 mid slot... you can fit an EM hardener (active or passive depending on available grid), but if you get nossed you're toast. Alternatively, fit a cap booster, but then if you come up against someone with primary EM damage again, you're lightly-grilled brown bread.
The Hawk is a better all-rounder, but the is fairly low dps with std. missiles and generally reckoned to be too slow for a rocket-ship. I don't have much experience with them compared to Harpy though.
Either ship is a good choice in a small gang, or even in a fleet though.

Harpy is great for gangs as long as you maintain proper range. But with the HP boost you're not going to be the threat you are now when Revelations hits TQ. Now a Harpy is a menace to all frigs, tech I and tech II but that will change slightly with Revelations.

Edited by: Slevin Kalebra on 25/11/2006 18:18:07 In what way am I wrong? Feel free to explain but a simple contradiction doesn't really help anyone. I'd love to know what I'm doing wrong with the Harpy, but I've tried solo sniping and my success with it has been somewhat limited, so that's what I reported. The changes to Spike and increased ship hit points are not likely to help matters either. In terms of solo PvP the Minmatar and Gallente AFs seem to be better equipped to fulfil that role.
