Those wrecks are realy booring. it's not possible to create cargo containers for the loot ? It's realy a loss of time with a space full of wrecks.

You can get loot out of wreaks same as any container.
Also, if wrecks are boring, what does that make containers? ;) Red Storm Vendetta is now recruiting! Click me for more info |

There's one thing about the wrecks - they don't go away after you took al the loot from them, now imagine i'm getting from 10 to 25 of them in single l3 mission, and about 30-50 in l4 - it is really hard to loot them all and not try to loot the same twice :)
At least they shoud've added the "set name" option (oh, it is there, but when you try to rename, it says you can't!)...
The truth is out there...

Kill missions are taking me about twice as long now because I have to shoot and destroy wrecks as I loot them to keep track of what I've looted. Can't rename them, and they all have the same name and color. Costs me significant ammo, too.
The only other solution is to get Salvage, but not only does it cost nearly 1 Million ISK, it also requires Survey V and Mechanic V, which puts it two weeks out even if I ignored other more important skills.
Wreck-looting is a major downside in what is otherwise an excellent expansion so far in my experience.

New player here - I have been playing only for a couple of weeks. Loot from containers in Deadspaces has been funding my skill training and equipment upgrades. Since the new patch I am getting on average only one loot drop in every 30 containers I loot from kills.
Is this a bug? I hope so because I am fast running out of ISK. Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Khiya
PS I do understand about salvage, but it's going to be a while before I have trained those skills (even if I could afford to buy the Salvage skill)

I think too that the skills Survey V and Mechanic V + salvage are too expensive for what it worth. I have other skills to learn before and that would say maybe in 6 months i'm gonna salvage something.

Destroy them? Y'all think about destroying them once you've grabbed the loot?

I've noticed that too, though for me it's more like 1 in 5 will have loot. I'm in the same boat as you (on day 16 here) so maybe it would be worth it to train up our salvage skills? Heh.

I think CCP are aware of the problems of wrecks. A little reading of the forums shows that there are plans to mark looted wrecks in some way, and that perhaps the skills needed for salvaging are going to be lessened slightly.
It is only the first day after the patch, so there are bound to be things like this that were overlooked in the much smaller environment of the test server.

Yep, that's what I came up with. But it's unbelievably slow just the same. I used to loot using a speed fitted Destroyer with a few Tractor Beams on it. I had a nice system that allowed me to loot quickly.
1) Now all rats will create a wreck. Before only those that dropped loot would produce cans.
2) Most wrecks do not have loot, and there is nothing to distinguish loot containing wrecks from empty ones.
3) As I understand it, even if you can Salvage wrecks, they only dissapear on a succesful salvage attempt. I don't know about this one for sure, I have a few days training before I can Salvage.
Even if you do go with the "destroy them" approach, it's still hella time consuming because there are so many more of 'em, and even if you can one-shot them, it takes a bit for it to disappear/lock-on the next/re-engage the tractor beam etc. etc. Other than the increase in the number of left-overs, it's not that any one part of it (tractor - loot (maybe) - destroy, rinse - repeat) takes a lot of time, it's the additive time increase from a bunch of 'new' little steps.
My suggestions for non-salvage-capable pilots:
Fitting a dedicated Loot Scooper for mission running is a must. Just bookmark one of the wrecks in each deadspace 'room' and go to it after turning in the mission. Fit two or more tractor beams to haul in the goods so you don't have to fly to get 'em.
Now, I tried shooting down each wreck one-by-one after checking/looting it as it was being towed behind me, but this used a ****load of ammo. So either A) Mount Lasers on your Loot Scooper, and/or B) use a ship with a decent size drone bay and let the drones do the work. It's really six one half dozen the other as both methods are time consuming.
Alternatively, you could fit a bunch of tractor beams on say, a Destroyer, and work on consolidating wrecks. If you zoom out to a large distance, fly around until you have as many wrecks as possible in tow, and stop. Let all the cans come to your location, loot them, and go on to the next group. This will let you easily see which ones you have looted since they'll all be in one place, and you can avoid getting those again.
I haven't tried the second one yet, so it may be worse than the other option. I'm no sage on the matter, but that's what I can come up with off the cuff.

Wrecks are pretty frustrating. Between lag and not all wrecks having loot I am opening each one 3 or 4 times to make sure it has nothing in it.
Maybe having a marker to show it is a wreck with loot?

If you can tractor them all in one position, then loot using the above trick, you can finish it off by using smartbombs to destroy them.
But yeah CCP has to add a feature to fix this nerve wrecking ennuyance. There's no viable alternative.

as a new eve player, but a long time MMORPG player i have to admit, ive NEVER seen a company or a player base so friendly and helpfull, let alone one that listens to complaints. i play navyfield, and the drama is horrible. but yea i see where all you guys are going with the salvage, having high skill req. and the fact you cant tell what wreckage is marked.
where can i post a suggestion??? cause adding beacons that last for 5-10 minutes, ones that flash like marker lights on a airplane/ship would be very nice, and a launcher to shoot them into the wreckage.

Hello.
I really need to yell and scream at someone, the wreck system is horrible. Spent 10 minutes completing the mission objectives and thirty minutes running through the wrecks and blowing them up! It's stupid and a downgrade from the previous system ...
Color code wrecks : EMPTY or WITH CONTENT Option to remove empty wrecks from overview!!!
Simple solution to a horrid mess.
Gawd this is stupid , really!
Have a good day now, for this shure made my day... well WEEK, god knows when youll fix it!

Since I tend to leave "clusters" of wrecks when I fight, I found a solution that works well. When I'm done fighting, I target-lock as many wrecks as I can, starting with the closest and working my way out. As I scan/loot each wreck (yes, Cargo Scanning will save you time), I unlock it and add the next one out to the lock list.
So far, I haven't had any troubles with figuring out which ones I've already scanned/looted. This system should work just as well for people who leave "strings" of wrecks (the run-away-and-fight tactic).

Well relax all, CCP has already said wrecks are getting a hotfix. be patient til tues when they get 2 colors or something that shows contain loot, and empty.
Drones unfortunetly ignore wrecks, so my solution is the tractor em all toghether, loot, and Smart bomb them...

That would be a nice idea heh Still I can't wait till CCP get's to the bottom of this and fixes it.

Must admited... this whole 'wreck' thing got to me too... The fact the window remains after you check it.. pfft... takes so much longer.. (lol, quite an insignificant problem i guess.. but most annoying)
Still, if thats the only problem i have found with the update so far, i think it has gone well..
But yeah... it would be great if they could 'mark' them once opened (or drop both - a can and the wreck - nothing worse that traveling 100km for an empty wreck)

There should be no empty wrecks in MY overview because I'm not a scavanger, I'm a pro carebear ! Also , I don't use tractor beams , I don't have time to take such an aproach when recks a littered by the dozens, 100 km from each other.
I don't want to check/tag/blow up/tractor beam/scavange empty wrecks.
To alternate, there could be cans for the loot, again to remove the wrecks from the overview.

Maybe from now on, scanners are going to be a lot more usefull, because in a Role-Playing perspective it would be absurd that it would release a ready-to-loot can but it would be logical that you need a module (with low fittings) to see what's inside. Perhaps a boost of this module would be nice , huh?
But I must admit I haven't faced the problem yet so I havn't been bored to death yet :) " There's no brave in a 5-to-1 fight. Just 5 cowards and a fool. - Perhaps. But it worked didn't it?"

If thei'r going to make cargo scanners a mandatory mod to your ship then add an extra slot for it on all ships. It's a stupid system that's been given minimal to no thought prior to it's deployment...

I honestly don't mind it. Scanners aren't mandatory, they just make sifting through wreckage a whole lot faster and easier. Now you have a choice between optimizing your ship for killing baddies or optimizing your ship for looting wreckage. What!?! A realistic tradeoff in a video game? Heresy! Rabble! Rabble, rabble!
Good change, good job, CCP.

I totally agree. I was using a scanner before revelations. EVE is about making choices! Personally I kinda like the idea of not knowing what wreck does or doesnt hold loot. Keep things as they are but boost the loot quality in the few wrecks that DO hold some. To hell with the mindless canbears. Work for your isk.

God, you are so slow ...
Picture this , since I dogfight the baddies I scatter their wrecks around , usually 100 km apart ... So I'm done and I have wrecks as far as the eye can see, dozens of them. HOW ON EARTH DO YOU WANT ME TO SCAN THEM ? Or tag or whatever, under these conditions... My system worked prior, now I feel like someone craped over my character/computer/persona/free time/source of fun.
Just because YOU don't have a problem with it does not mean that all is pink, wise man.
Second, they litter the overview because they are many.
Third, Wrecks create LAG because they are many. You havent seen the hoardes of angry newbies blowing their impairors in chaven, there where hundreds of wrecks near the station.
The fact that you people think this is a good twist baffles me.

I don't see the big deal. I left loot cans before Rev and Im leaving wrecks now. I don't care to pick them up. As a good man in eve once said "Gathering loot is like picking you arse, you rarely find anything good and the rest is all crap". And good luck to the folks trying to sell their salvage for 50M isk, that means the rig I want to build that requires about 250 units of salvaged material is going to cost 152000000000 isk. Just to be able to salvage I have to wait 4 more days. survey 5? BS. Pirates stole my signature. |
