I originally tried to play this game a few years ago but gave up at the beginning of the tutorial due to it being complicated and I felt, the game looked terrible. I picked it up again 2 nights ago and was surprised at how much better it looked. Anyway, here is where I am now after 2 sessions for about a total of 6 hours of playing.
Did all 3 parts of the tutorial (picked up ship, picked up some documents, used the jumpgate)
Now, as I'm a combat person, I immediately started using the military agent guy to work on my combat training; The Cash Flow for Capsuleers mission. So far, i'm at part 9 and I lost my first ship at part 8
Here are other things I've done in my 6 hours of playing: 1. Somehow, I got rewarded a 2nd ship, and when I lost my first frigate, I insured the 2nd one and started using it. 2. Bought extra ammo. 3. Unfitted ships and refitted a 2nd one to get the hang of available slots and what not. 4. Disengaged from battle to repair ship and get my systems back up to 100% then re-engaged battle 5. Started developing battle tactics though not too sure if it helped, but at least I'm thinking about it now.
Screwups I've done 1. Lost a ship of course 2. Got some implants I could train for that would speed up m y training for skills but I think I injected them instead of training them and now I wasted them.
Skills I've been trying to take care of all the first/second level battle skills first to give me a good foundation (shield, gunnery, etc etc) so if someone could take a look at my profile and see if I'm screwing up on anything, I would appreciate it.
Money How do you make money in this game? I see you can mine, build stuff to sell and run missions but is that it? If I'm not doing either of those things then I'm basically not growing my wallet?
Thanks for looking |

Also, if anyone could recommend a Gallente corporation that doesn't have a problem training new players, that would be cool also. As long as they have a good reputation. I don't have a headset yet but plan on getting one in the next day or so and I do have experience with Vent, TS and Skype. US time zone. |

Sounds like your progressing along well;
You lost a ship to the station that explodes? - Normal: in fact you will lose a few more as you do the tutorials and the epic sisters arc probably. I suspect CCP designed some of these early missions to get you used to the idea of ship loss, so thats not really a mistake, just another lesson :P
Skill decisions: - When young, I don't think you can honestly make any mistakes. Your expected to be running from one thing to another training up enough to use modules and ships to find what you enjoy. In addition, most of the skills your cramming into your queue will be pre-requisites for other skills in the future.
I suspect that you can only really set yourself back if you specialize without having found what you want to do yet. Deciding to skill up and be great at something you grow tired of will hurt you more in time and frustration than having a million different skills at 1-3 while you enjoy and experience a good deal what the game can do for you.
Money: - Don't worry so much about it. It comes. The Low level epic arc you will get after the tutorial will net you around 20 mil alone. The tutorials shower you with ISK and ships. You can look around the forums for money making ideas, but as a general rule, you can make ISK in almost any way imaginable in this game, the real trick is finding something you enjoy doing so it's not as much as a grind.
In literally a few months, you will find that money just starts piling up in your wallet as long as your not silly with purchases and you only fly what you can currently afford and are skilled well for.
Corps: - The Recruitment Forums here will give you a good idea of newbie freindly corps and what to expect. It is much more important to find out what you enjoy doing before selecting a corp, so that you don't get in with a group that enjoys doing something that bores you to death.
Continue with the tutorials, run the epic arc, wander around a bit, experience as much as possible. Then you can decide what you want to do longer term and find a corp that shares that vision.
Best of luck, and Welcome to Eve. |

First off Eve is still just as complicated. The tutorial does a better job at easing people into the wide world of Eve. The learning cliff is still steep, but the steep learning curve is why Eve is great for long haul. Because there is so much to get out of the game.
Skills I always recommend get your skills to level 4 before tackling level 5's. But your first level 5's should be things that help all of your ships. Like eng, electronics, tanking skills (armor or shield), guns.
Money There are a lot of ways to make isk in Eve (comes with it being a complicated game) since you have said you like combat I will focus there. You can do missions, ratting (killing NPC pirates that spawn in belts), PvP yes even with low skills and a bunch of friends you can blow people up for profit, lastly when you get really skilled incursions are awesome. But big money takes skills to make. Best advice in Eve don't fly anything you can't replace.
Find a great corp Eve is really big, friends make it a lot easier to be successful . Eve shines when you have good friends to help you find your way. Voice chat is important for any corp many newer corps use Eve voice but many have their own. Lastly my corp loves training up newbies if interested contact Arasynia in game. She can determine if you would be good fit out our gaming community.
Lastly good luck have fun and fly safe (or dangerous if you like).

thanks for the replies so far.
Regarding ratting against NPCs, I'm assuming those are AI and not real people? If so, I would not find that enjoyable and hope that doing those are not necessary.
I'm currently playing another space game, though its a baby compared to EVE, and the main, only, satisfaction I get from it is wiping out a real players fleet that they spent months/years building and stealing all their money and then bragging about it on the forums.
So, thats what I'm looking for here. I've been searching the forums looking for battle reports and have only seen just a couple of them, I guess you call them kill boards. I'll have to research more to see what the battles look like |

NPCs are computer AI controlled, yes.
As for battle reports, you can read through a slew of pirate blogs ( just google eve online pirate blogs, and follow the stories there and also the other blogs most of them have linked ) or check out the crime and punishment forums for pirate stories.
In addition, fleet fight battle reports are hosted on a number of external websites, one of which is: Fail Heap. Most battle report hunting involves skimming through pages of trolling though, so have your scroll wheel in working order.
Hopefully others will be able to point you to other sites, but they literally litter the web. :) |

Skipping the other stuff (you're doing OK there... so no new comments needed)
1. Losing a ship isn't a bad thing -- just keep in mind that "If you can't afford to insure it, you can't afford to fly it." (also sometimes said as "Don't fly what you can't afford to lose" or "If you can't afford two, you can't afford one").
2. If you plugged in the implants, you're using them fine. If you're talking about new skillbooks that you injected -- they're on your character sheet at level zero. Just look through your skills list, and you'll be able to find them.
Skills: You're Gallente, forgo shields for a little bit as the Gallente boats favour armour tanks (say at least til after you've gotten Hull Upgrades/Mechanic 5, and the other core stuff to 4). That red bar above your armour is a design feature . Skills you should be getting to 4 ASAP are the core skills (technically you want these to 5, but get them all to 4 before taking the plunge to 5):
- Electronics -- 5% CPU per level
- Energy Management -- 5% Capacitor capacity per level
- Energy Systems Operation -- 5% reduction in Capacitor recharge time per level
- Hull Upgrades -- 5% Armour HP per level
- Mechanic -- 5% Hull HP Per level
- Gunnery -- 2% damage bonus per level for turrets
- Shield Management -- 5% Shield capacity per level
- Shield Operation -- 5% reduction in Shield recharge time per level
ISK can be made from mining (low income) missions (low, until you get into Level 3s. The "Connections" skill will help you here), trading stuff on the markets, manufacturing, or by doing the more unsavoury things such as scamming or piracy.
As for a corporation -- since you're posting in the TRIAL section, I'll have to assume you're still on a trial. You *may* find a good corp who accepts trials, but the reality is that the majority of good corporations don't accept trial accounts. Once you sub up, you'll find you will have an easier time of finding a GOOD corporation.
In my experience, the corporations who accept trials are significantly more likely to fall apart at the first sign of trouble. |

Dear Lyron-Baktos,
I would like to point you to the well made Clarion Call videos, the latest one is Clarion Call 3. Many more good EVE related (battle) videos can be found here - the EVE Community is very creative and skillful and those videos can be really awesome!
Don't worry about your ship loss - in average every 6 seconds a ship explodes in EVE (in PVP alone)!
I would say you got a good start. Especially since you seem to have a lot of fun! CCP Phantom - German Community Coordinator |

Couple of more questions
1. I got stuck on my last mission last night because I could not find the target. My mission journal said I was in the right spot, because I was in the right system, but it turns out, I had to use a couple of gates to get to the right area. Is there a way to find out exactly where something is? I was chatting with a player that saw my post here, who was very helpful, and he told me if I ever land next to another gate, just to keep using it as it will take me to the right spot.
2. I got a 2nd ship as a reward but how do I keep track of it? Do I have to always keep returning to the same space station that it's docked at or will it follow me around? I know on the tutorial, it told me to make sure I left nothing behind in the hanger so not sure how this works. |

1. Yes if theres an acceleration gate in a mission it will usually lead to the next part of the mission, the only exceptions are certain missions have a 'bonus room' which is only accesible through a locked acceleration gate in the final room of the mission (you need a pirate faction tag to unlock it, which specific tag you need varies depening on the pirate faction you fight in the mission) . I dont think you'll need to worry about this yet though AFAIK 'bonus rooms' only appear in level 4 missions.
2. You can keep track of where your stuff is through your assets tab (Its on the big menu to the left of the screen, looks like a grey safe), ships and modules remain at the station you last put them in and dont follow you around. The assets tab will show you every ship and module you own that isnt fitted to the ship youre currently flying, organised by what station theyre in.
If youre docked in a station where you have assets stored you can view them through the two tabs marked Ships and Items. |

Later on in the game you will have several jump clones stationed all over the galaxy that you can insta-switch between so having ships and other stuff littering the galaxy is less of a problem. For OCD people like me it still drives me nuts now and then tough FIRE FRIENDSHIP TORPEDOES ! |

So it would seem if I leave stuff in the hanger and leave, then it's not safe but if I put those items in my ships cargo hold, and then leave while leaving that 2nd ship behind, it will be safe and I'll just have to keep track of where my ships are at. More complicated but doable.

Stuff is safe in your hanger (the ITEMS box) there is no need to put things into a ship. You keep track of your stuff through the ASSETS screen, either through the various tabs or by searching for specifics. And yes you must return to the same station to pick up the things you left there, much of eve's gameplay revolves around logistics. Add me to your watch list if you like, i'm always happy to fleet newbies up and help out with anything. when is it a good time to try to hook up with a corp? I want to get to 0.0 as soon as possible and start blowing stuff up. I'm knocking out all the Agent missions right now so I can figure out how to do stuff so hopefully, when that's done?

Looking for nullsec, you're a few months from that (from what I remember ... most of the corps want 10-15m SP as a minimum). However, you can definitely get into a corp whenever you want. There are loads of "rookie friendly" corporations around.
Some things to watch out for: - a lot of corps don't like trials (moot point if you've gotten off the trial) - the "better" corps will usually ask for an API key for verification of what you're telling them (e.g. yeah, he really has 750k SP). Don't be turned off by corps looking to do these kind of checks -- because it also means that they're working to limit the chances of hiring on a spy or something. - CEO age. If the CEO is only 1-2 months old, it's very likely that they don't know a fair number of the "gotchas" involved in being in a player corporation in EVE.
and then just the general stuff "are they in my TZ, are they cool guys to fly with?" and the like. |

I would join a corp as soon as possible. If you are looking for a 0.0 corp you wont be able to be as picky as you could in say a couple of months, but there are still corps out there that will accept a new player even if they are in 0.0.
Im adding in a link to a thread where you can get a general idea on how to find a corp, and what to avoid. Read over the post and read over the replies people have made with even more advice. Hopefully you will find one that is right for you Just be patient and dont jump on the first offer you get. There is always more out there.

So, I've run out of agent missions in my local area so I want to move on, toward lowsec so I'll be close when I'm ready to jump in. Since you can't carry ships with you and what not, is it wise to sell what you can't carry ? I just sold about 6 ships and a bunch of random items so I hope so |
