Want to try myself in planetary interaction, could any one sugest a good "safe" place to start, and the most profitable materials to "mine" at the moment.

The system you're in... right now... maybe? Although being within a few jumps of whatever trade hub you're going to sell stuff at makes sense as well. High-sec means less profit, but less risk. Low-sec/WH/Null of course work the other way around.

Market tab... Manufacture & Research / Materials / Planetary Materials / Processed Materials
Pick one that looks valuable? Heck, you can have 6 planets, pick a handful. |

I feel like I'll always be new to Planetary Interaction, but here are some great links that helped a lot of people out.
Below is an amazing compilation of data you can use to see what materials are made from which planet type and, when combined with other materials, what they can be created into. I suggest picking an end product that sells well on the market and starting there: http://www.eveonline.com...pic&threadID=1325077
Here is the Planetary Interaction page from EVElopedia. An essential resource, especially for the great links at the bottom: http://wiki.eveonline.co...ki/Planetary_interaction

Thanks for this, info helped. I am moving to establish a corp with a focus on PI in anticipation of DUST 514 so I can use all the information I can. I think if they pull it off it will add some great aspects to eve as well as make the console have use other then a dust collector / netflix player. Dust collector... how apt. |

on plasma planets, you can harvest both heavy metals and base metals, which can be processed into toxic metals and reactive metals, which can be combined into enriched uranium, which is a pos fuel and therefore always in demand.
on gas/storm planets, i don't remember the exact chain, but you can make coolant from one of these planets, which is a pos fuel and always in demand. use storm planets if possible, since gas planets eat your pwrgrid with links that don't seem as long as they are.
on barren planets, you can harvest base and noble metals, which can be refined into reavite and precious metals, which can be combined into mechanical parts, which are pos fuel and a component of robotics, which is also a pos fuel.
if you have absolute crap skills, you can still set up a planet that gives you a good amount of noble gases, which can be refined into oxygen, which is the simplest pos fuel to make.
remember to shift your extractors every time youi reset them, it seems to make deposits last longer for me. |

Thanks for the info, just watching tutorial videos atm.
one thing i will never understand is the EvE map. any suggestions for a 0.5 security system (Caldari space) not to populated? :) |

In all fairness, forget Caldari space if you're thinking of good PI or mining. Look for sparsely populated systems away from the big hubs. If you're looking for mining systems look for ones without stations. Amarr, Khanid and Ammatar highsec space is in my experience good space to start, though I haven't really looked at the gallente and minmatar regions.
As a side note, PI alts aren't that hard to train so you might want to think about going that route instead of doing it on your main. Training all PI skills to 4 and training for a T1 rig T2 fit mammoth shouldn't take more than a month even without using the toon's remaps. Give the toon +2 or +3 learning implants though.
Hope this helps |

I'm not trying to be difficult, but the moment someone says "go to xxx it is really empty and you get GREAT yields!!" people will flock there and you wont get good yields anymore.
The advice "do your homework" isn't just a tired mantra for people that like to troll, it is actually the best advice we can give you.
If i told you "go to poinen and make coolants" well then a ton of people will.. and shortly it will be overrun and the yields crap.
Btw i haven't found any difference in yields in 0,5 vs higher sec.. Highsec, lowsec and 0.0 seems to be the dividers not the individual sec in those brackets but i haven't done scientific testing on it.

I do PI on the side as supplemental income. I just grabbed at a few planets near by (in high sec) to make various POS fuels and sell on the market. I have a fairly low-rate production going that requires me to restart the extractors every couple days and do a pick up once a week or so. Plasma planets are probably going to be the biggest headache in high-sec as they tend to be spread out (I make enriched uranium on them).
I'm on a different training cycle right now, but once that is finished I'll probably pay a lot more attention to the PI stuff. Isk is isk.

And by "do your homework" that means check out a resource like Dotlan and look around the regions for the kind of system you want - high sec, no stations, off a main trade route, low traffic, etc. Also, remember that you actually control a space ship, so go visit potential PI targets and check them out in person. You'll want to eyeball a few planets to see if other people have already claimed the good PI locations.
There's no quick answer, and like the above comments suggest, being told exactly where to go is self-defeating.

Or training up alts in addition to doing it on the main. PI and research are great things to use your extra 2 characters for, and the PI scanning skills use the same attributes as research. Remap to int/mem and plug in +3 implants (there's no reason not to use +3 since they only require cybernetics 1 and are dirt cheap) and it should take about 2 weeks to train up PI to all 4's.
If you're using the alts in highsec there's no need for a full T1 rigged T2 fit hauler, it's a waste of training time. Just train Amarr Industrial to lvl 1 and hull upgrades to lvl 2, get a Bestower, 4 cargo II's, and 4 GSC's to expand your cargohold and you're golden, mids and highs can be left empty.
If you have ancient alts that came with learning skills and haven't used the free skillpoints yet PI is a good candidate for those SP's. Mine had 47,000 free SP each, which was enough to instantly get them into the Bestower and implants, with 3 planets at lvl 3 command center.
Oh and yeah, forget Caldari space for pretty much anything but trading/market, it's a cesspool. |

Found a low sec cluster in which all the systems have 0 stations. Thus I rarely see more than 3-5 people in all five systems at one time. Furthermore it's right near a main trading hub/missioning center so not too outta the way.
I've been locked once or twice, but as it's solo people 2 warp stabs on the ole mammoth and they're no problem. So i'd say your best bet is to find a close low sec or null sec with no station in it. |

If you are just starting off, it is best to start off small and in high sec space. The low risk will allow you to easily learn planetary interaction.
When you want to start making more money, I would suggest going into low sec/ null sec space, as those areas tend to have planets that are more plentiful in resources.
It is also important to determine which resource or product you are looking to make. Market situations change, so at one point, it may be more profitable to produce, say biofuels, and the next it may be more profitable to just sell carbon compounds, raw and unprocessed.
...
Also watch some vids, there's stuff on Evelopedia and whatnot that is easy to understand
