Edited by: 0verwhelmer on 29/11/2006 21:32:02 defenders.. make them work right and pretty much a necessity on a ship so all you have to do is click it no matter where you are and any incoming missiles would cause it to lock on to them (YES THATS RIGHT IT SHOULD LOCK ONTO MISSILES NOT SHIPS) and fire at it(within 1 second of the other missiles launch) and perhaps make it constantly use a very small amount of power i don't even understand how it works right now some times i can turn it on and it shuts off some times i cant turn it on at all so its more like a patriot missile for ships if you read about the patriot missile you'll think your defender missile is a bit of a set back in technology the patriot missile has a range of 70km and it locks on to missiles at up to 80.5km away has a radar range of over 100km and can target up to 100 targets at ONCE and theses things were made in 1976 and upgraded in 1988 ( also "The PAC-3 missile is currently undergoing testing for a significant new upgrade, currently referred to as "MSE" or "Missile Segment Enhancement". The upgrade includes a new fin design and a new, more powerful rocket motor. The modification is alleged to increase the operational capability of the current PAC-3 missile up to 50% and is scheduled to be added to all existing PAC-3 missile stores by 2008." 50% HOLY CRAP and what year is eve in??? lol) but also bush claimed for them to have a 97% success rate and ageist scud's they have a 110% success rate but for faster missiles i imagine around 33% or soo but that is also a missile that isent aiming the the pac if it was it would be much easier i imagine plus they can be fired very rapidly till the four tubes are empty then the next battery can take over anyways i believe you should make a whole new group of missiles that is different types of defender missiles such as bigger explosion/more collateral damage, faster, longer range, more accurate, and maybe even give some a bonus to launcher speed as one of the missile types too or something and perhaps make new turrets that are just for defender missiles and the only kind of turret that the defenders can use and it should take up more cpu due to the CRAZY ballistics computer processing it has to do to intercept another missile and if u don't think that these would be fair then make it MANDATORY to have a special radar on board that would make yoru ship capable of using the defenders

1) press enter. maybe do it twice. frack that big blob if blah hurt me brain.
2) 110% hit rate?! wtf dude, did them propaganda officers make you think ubermissile hits two scuds per shot or something? seriously man, get a frackin grip.
3) oh yes, wroking defender missiles.. hmmm. or how about something akin to a phalanx gun (look it up its cool). chance based, smaller faster missile is harder to hit so gets a bigger chance of piercing phalanx defence, big slow missile gets zapped. torpedo nerf ftw. maybe introduce stealth torps?

It would be nice if there was a subsystem that made your defenders automatically defend you from any missile attack. By the time you turn on the defenders youve usually already been hit by at least one barrage. I don't have a problem with authority... ...as long as it doesn't get in my way. |

It'd also be nice if you could use Defenders to actually DEFEND your teammates, and not just yourself. There could even be a dedicated missile defense ship, or something.

Edited by: Laboratus on 30/11/2006 09:37:12 The success rate in those test was determined by whether or not the intercepting missile detonated, not by what it did to the incoming missile. Missile intercept systems generally try to destroy guidance electronics with the blast, they have little/no effect on ballistic missiles, as their guidance systems do anything at launch and when the missile is at the peak point of the trajectory it travels. After that any damage to guidance systems is kinda trivial. They might deviate a bit, but the payload they carry is usually enough, so it doesn't matter wheter it hits the exact spot or not. So they "work" at the moment. But I'm not too impressed.
But, yea. Defenders should do what they are supposed to do in EVE. It's just redicilous that they are so weak atm.

Phalanx gun is nice. Read somewhere that it is kinda needy when it comes to ammo and electricyty.

how about a midslot flack gun that has combat reprocussions for missiles similar to the tracking disruptor vs turrets?
really, any mod that would counter missles effectively would be pretty fair since we have anti turret items.
defenders dont work. not even as intended.

Idea: Stealth torps can only be fired by stealth bombers, they remain cloaked but can be detected using a mod similar to the sensor booster,
call it an anti cloak pulse or whatever due to the slow speed of torps give it like a 20km range, but prevent them from being fitted to cap ships, so that cap ships should always have an escort,
imho interceptors should get bonuses for targetting and shooting down missles / torps, interceptor fitted with anti cloak pulse = w1n
