Hello all! I love this game and can't wait to dive in. I've done a couple trial accts, think this is my third. I'll be upgrading it to a full account before it's done, I just couldn't wait to start
Heres my dilemma, I, like so many new players, don't know what I want in EVE. I will after many months probably create an alt to help out in some area but for now I will be creating a character with just about dead even attributes. My problem lies in choosing what school to start in. Should I go with the military schools so I have some fighting ability at the start?
Basically if I want an all around character I can tailor my attributes to it, but what school? Thanks ahead of tiime!

Edited by: Matalino on 29/11/2006 21:55:10 Pick your school based on what you want to do short term. Which school you choose will have no longer term effect on which skills you can train. You will now start with approx 800k sp. Once you have your learning skills trained up you will be training that many SP in a month or less. That and most paths have a lot of shared skills.
Attributes, appearance, and roll-playing should be your primary concerns when creating a charater. School just gives you a resonable start in whatever path you want to travel first.

Thanks Matalino, figured as much...I'll go military so I can rat right away. Another quick one...To get even attributes on some races I have to pick a less than desireable ancestry. Ancestry's nothing more than RP value and getting atts where I want them right?

Edited by: MinorFreak on 29/11/2006 23:51:53 that is correct. In the far far future (ie. SoonÖ) we might be walking around stations with our avatars. but, for now, we see no real correlation between official storylines and our own personal interactions with the eve universe beyond what one decides oneself.
There ARE superficial considerations like what starting station you will appear at. But, beyond the desire to have 'fun' it's all exploring a new world, right?
I used to encourage newbies to choose the character creation paths that would give you the maximum amount of starship command/frigate command so it opens up ALOT more options with different ships to choose from in the beginning.
My original character had even attributes and i encourage the same for anyone new to eve-online. Simply because you're going to be curious and will probably train a large number of skills to lvl3 (besides, the big ships require an insane amount of isk to purchase anyways)
There's 4 basic career paths: Missions&Industry (agents), Mining&Trade (economy), PvP (player warfare), Empire Building (logistics). Obviously, to fully enjoy eve-online you'll be dabbling in all of them at one point in time.
I myself chose the 4th path and have spent about 2 years farting around at about the 25million isk bank balance because i just can't help but spend my isk on blueprints and rental fees...not to mention ships that keep getting blowed up by pirates. ______________________ Best darned links ingame and out (backup) |

Thanks Manor, and that's my plan. To enjoy and experience EVE at my leisure. Sure I'll get hardcore at certain things but I want to discover EVE on my own and not worry about making 50 posts on what ship setup is better etc. Once I finally get setup in game, I'll learn in game as I go, need advice...I'll ask in game. After all, that's what would really happen if it were real...

Another ?....I just created a toon with even atts. I:8 P:8 C:7 W:8 M:8
After I got in game they looked like this... 8/10/8/12/7...I was confused so I tried another toon and ended up 10/8/6/10/11. I like the avatar of the first toon but the second I created has better stats. Will i be limiting myself with the first one?

Sounds like you had balanced your stats correctly. What you might not have noticed is that you will also start with a bunch of learning skills, some of which will be trained to higher levels than others. Once you get all your learning skills to the same level your stats will appear balanced again.

Excellent, glad to hear that. But why would I have an attribute drop a point? My memory went down 1 so I ended up with lowere mem than char....kinda made me sad.

It shouldn't have. Double check your options. You should still be able to use this tool to plan your attributes as only the starting skills have changed. The attribute for each bloodline and ancetry are still the same.
