The Symptoms: Excessive screen tearing. This will appear as flickering at random locations on your screen. Monitor will randomly refresh as though you changed the screen resolution (clicking off and on). Long term system instability (Windows crashing returning a nvidia driver error.)
Unsuccessful fixes: I have tried drivers 93.71, 91.31 and 84.21. I have also tried nvidias software to force antialiasing (since eve doesn't offer this internally) which seems to reduce tearing but does not fix system instability. I have also toyed with prefs.ini with no success.
Other nvidia cards I have tested: GeForce FX5900 with driver 84.21 does not have this issue. Nor does a GeForce2 Ti with driver 61.77. So I am pretty sure this is a problem specific to the series 4 cards and totally unrelated to drivers. (Or this machine is screwed up.)
Who should post: Please only post if you have a GeForce4 series card. Unless you have this exact issue on a different card. People with and with-out this issue; and some system specs would help. I need to find out if this is a problem I can fix on my end or not.

I upgraded my drivers for a problem (new it wouldn't help). However, with a 6800GT, I was running into stability problems with the 93.71 drivers. I rolled back to the 84.21 (which I know are good) and haven't had any problems since.

Could you provide screens of the "tearing"? There are some occlusion problems with planets and rings on my 6800GT. I'm using the 84.25s. --- What good are actions if there's no one to tell the tale afterward?...

Edited by: Toppos Dannecopanus on 30/11/2006 11:01:32 I have had similar problems for a while on a gf6600gt card.
Have done a complete system-reinstall and applied 93.71 drivers - problem seems less frequent now, but it still occurs.
I can add these symptoms: BSOD referring to NVIDIA System hangup with monitor off (as if PC was turned off) sometimes system comes back, and other times system reboots or i reboot it.
It ALWAYS happens when playing EVE after 10-15 min. (sometimes within minutes). Other games plays fine (BF2*, CSS, FEAR CC-generals just to name a few) * a note to BF2 - it has happend there once - and only once.
I have suspected hardware for a while, but since problem is almost exclusively seen in EVE - then i suspect EVEs graphics engine.

GF4 Ti 4800 SE (AGP 8x) here, driver version 84.21, no issues except the white flash when jumping (which everyone gets, according to my intel)
Although I have noticed that when VLC is running in the background, part of the video bleeds through to the black areas on the screen. /* None of this is anyone's opinion. Not even my own.
