so i have been playing eve a while but only occaisionally and mostly just like to run solo missions. i am working along at skilling and gearing up to be able to do level III missions..
i was kinda confused with this new patch and the new looting system. for one thing, well, the other thread talks about a lot of the issues.. no way to tell what you looted.. if you kill something after you checked it, at my level that takes like 30seconds, which is incredibly boring. i mean, the looting process was already insanely slow and boring, but i figured eventually i could tractor things or something rather than spending 30 minutes clicking "fly to that. ok click it. now menu click. now drag it etc etc etc" if anything i would've wished for a quicker system where you could shift-loot a ship and just grab everything since 99% of the time that is what you do anyway.
now i sort of understand that there are ways to auto-loot with drones or something but that is really unclear to me still. additionally, i understand now that i need to learn some new skills or something to even have a chance to loot items? it is annoying that i had no way of even learning about this change except for coming to the forums. why not a mission or tutorial? i read the "what's new" page but didn't really get a good idea of just how much it was going to change how this works from that, and none of the details of what i'd need to do.
for some of the other ideas like hiring salvage teams or whatever, i'm sure that is useful for people in big corps or running lvl4 missions or whatever, but right now this is just the difference of if i get 150k per mission or 300-500k.. and considering i'm saving up for an afterburner that costs 1mil, that means it's like doubled or more than tripled the amount of grinding i have to do.. was this really an intended consequence, to make lowbie solo'ing much less worth the time in terms of cash you'd make??

You can loot the wrecks the same way as you were able to open containers before. You will then have normal mods as loot.
You can then additionally salvage the wreck for rig components if you have a Salvager I installed.
For the mere fact that you dont see what you looted....try renaming the ship wrecks, I heard it's possible or if you are not going to salvage the wreck... destroy it... take 3 shots for me to pop one....
But the real solution to the problem is being made atm, I read in another thread that Oveur has an idea how to make already looted wrecks visible and distinguishable.

You need to get yourself a tractor beam.

it seemed like many of the wrecks i tried to loot didn't even have loot. is there an item or skill to see which ones even have modules or stuff in them? it's rather unlike in the old days if a ship wasn't going to drop anything i didn't have to check it's empty container.
i'll look into getting a tractor beam also.
thanks for the replies

drewe: you could try using a cargo scanner; that'd allow you to see the contents of a wreck at a distance (i think, you could use them on cargo containers) -------

I went out this morning and ran off about half a dozen agent missions to check out the new system. The loot drops are now RARE. Out of the dozens of NPC pirates and mining drones I shot, I had only 3 drops. This salvaging tools and skills are a must from where I sit. The skills maybe should be in the skill set you get at sign up, or at least part of it. Right now the drops of loot ammo and other stuff that the new people are dependent on to keep going, are rare at best. That 100 rounds of ammo every so often kept me in the game, because I surely could not afford to go out and buy it when I first started.
