yeah I went to empire to get some drone skills and every single jump on the way there it crashed to desktop. was fine on the way back.
Maybe I just shouldn't go into Empire.
Pretty, though.

if you have a Pentium D, Core Duo, AMD X2 or other dual core computer you might want to try setting affinity to one CPU/Core rather than letting windows share. It seems the new Clinet does not like multi CPU systems.

I get a few CTD's when jumping through a gate. I've read something about problems with dual processors. I have a dual core processor but I'm not sure this is the same thing.
But yeah. Some problems with CTD's but not always.

Try disabling sound.
If you're unlucky, the white flash after jumping sucks so hard on the power supply, that there might be a crash. --*=*=*--

I have a dual core (Conroe 6600) and it has been as steady as a rock. No CTDs
Step 1. Download the full client and reinstall it.

From the Devs
There is a known issue causing crashes with Dual Processor PC's. When warping to jump gates there is a chance that a CTD will occur. This is caused by a problem with Directx. In order to minimise the chance of this problem occurring please do the following:
* Set the exefile.exe process affinity in Windows Task Manager to a single cpu. * Do not run with the client minimised and on autopilot.
These steps will not eliminate the chance of the crash occurring, but will minimise it. We are working finding a solution to this problem, but we have no ETA at this time.

Well mine shows up with 2 CPUs in task manager, so i assume it's enough to upset it. Anyone know a way to set affinity through the shortcut, like i can set priority?
EDIT: Have just CTD whilst doing a mission, when opening my cargo, and did it earlier whilst undocking. It doesn't seem to be just in session changes?

Yep. CCP is really irresponsible concerning this issue. 24 hours after deployment are gone - and we still got NO answer from them. I'm taking the announcement about dual-core processors rather for a joke and a way to decline all responsibility, coz 70% of ppl experiencing the problem have single-core processors!

'connection lost' can come from some autoupdater on your machine, a mobile phone close to your data line, bad hardware at your ISP, all the way up to ccp's internal network at the Level3 hosting site in London.
www.pingplotter.com might help you pin down the cause for you. The server IP can be found all way down in my bio ingame. --*=*=*--

they didnt ask you to disable anything, nor alter the way your machine works. The post asked you to alter the way EVE works, by making it use one processor.

Grrrr!!!
I would realy like to know from CCP where the fault is, they have said it is something to do with DirectX which is all well and good however it must be being caused by EvE otherwise every other game in history would do it??
It would be fantastic if they just released a patch that disabled the thing causing the problems, so either the shaders or glow effects or whatever it is so people can at least play untill they fix the real problem.

Yep same... maybe we should gather all the people like us and play "pretend-eve" or something until CCP bothers to post anything that'd show they are aware of this problem and that they are working on a solution. In two years I never saw anything like this from CCP I am shocked tbh

For goodness sake - how hard is it to set affinity?
Just CTRL-ALT-DEL, and under processes, right click evefile.exe and select affinity and untick one of the CPU's.
Take all of 5 seconds to do. This is no big deal to be honest to prevent crashing. This is a Direct X issue, and guess what - Eve is not the only game to have this problem. --- Slot 10 Akemons Modified 'Noble'Zet 5000 implant +8% Armour FREE |

ound a temp fix in THIS THREAD and i can confirm it works for now.
Basically
1) Rename your eve/cache/browser/img folder to anything, i use abc. 2) Open eve 3) Delete newly created img folder 4) Login 5) Voila, no crashing. Just delete the img folder it creates on each login.
Worked for me , sux i know having to do this at every login.

Hey i can tell you that this does, indeed work, and if you are crashing to desktop in the char selection screen, i know it works if you delete all your cache folders, then on char selection screen, delete the new img folder like was previously said. I have been having problems with the Test server for weeks now whereby my machine crashes and reboots while in battles. This is now happening with the main game server since the upgrade.
The problem seams to be the Realtek Audio on my motherboard. I disabled the hardware acceleration within XP and things seam to work.
Motherboard uses a 965P chipset. (Core 2 Duo)
From control panel, "select Sounds and Audio Devices". Select Audio tab then under sound playback select Advanced button. Under the performance tab you should see "Hardware Acceleration". Move the slider to set the value to "None".
Hope this helps some people as its been driving me mad for weeks.

Edited by: HalfLoaf on 01/12/2006 12:57:17 CCP ? Any ETA on a fix for this ?
2 machines here and both have the same issue , Ctd to desktop when approaching a gate or jumping .
1st machine is an amd64 (single core) 2nd machine is an amd64 x2 (dual core)
I have tried all the suggestions on the known issues threads , and not fixed , tried to go 6 jumps to collect some market items and ctd'd 10 times in 2 jumps , so went back to base (2 jumps ) took just over 20 logins to get back and docked
fed up sitting in station .

Howdy,
Two seperate problems. There is a client crash with gates and there is a client crash with dual-core machines.
We're addressing both and they will hopefully be ready and tested by Sunday, otherwise they won't make it into the Tuesday patch.
The workaround for the dual-core problem is to set Affinity to either core (Task Manager, right click on EVE and uncheck either processor there). We're working with Microsoft on this one and doing progress.

"The post asked you to alter the way EVE works, by making it use one processor."
It would be nice if there was an option in preferences to set this rather than having to mess around in the task manager every time.
Disabling sound has stopped the BSODs, but the constant CTDs are wearing, especially since it usually takes me 3-10 attempts to log back in.

Although it certainly would be nice, I put affinity lock on a lot of stuff on my laptop which I have to do everytime I reboot, but that wouldn't address the actual problem.

I have this problem too. Amd64x2, but I only get it when running full screen. The error logs mentions something about DirectX. This has been an issue for me even with my last computer (single core) and the RMR patch. As long as I run in windowed mode everything is fine. I even run two clients at once (without setting the affinity) in windowed mode with no problems.
I know nothing about programming 3D graphics but obviously there is something that differs between windowed mode and full screen that makes the client CTD.
So if you can stand the "tackyness" try running in windows mode until CCP finds a solution.
PS - I only crash at session change if running full screen. |

I can confirm that the affinity did not fix my Dual core issue (AMD Athlon 64 X-2 4400+ here). Also, lost a T2 fitted raven to this and then the NPCs blew up my wreck before I could get the stuff back! (petitioned this of course, no idea if they'll reimburse me though).
I will try the image fix listed here tonight though to see if that helps. Otherwise, i'm getting CTDs all the time, gating, undocking, even warping into a mission (how I lost that Raven). Did not happen before recent patch.

I constantly get BSOD the last few days and was getting them during the testing phase on the test server client.
Amd x2 here as well... that might be the problem it seems for several ppl... setting affinity does nothing to change this (for me at least with 2GM ram).
As usual, no other games (even more cpu/gfx intensive) experience this problem and it makes no difference if the game/PC is running for a while or for a long time.

Same problem for me, I logged out this character in a POS prior to patchday. Now everytime I log in and the character warps to the POS, it crashes... Setting affinity to a single cpu makes it work a bit better ( I dont instantly crash when I approach the POS!), but it still crashes very often.
Hope this is fixed with the next patch this tuesday.
