I was testing new guns out today at everyone's favorite spawn point in Otalieto. As I warp in to the abandoned station I notice Durruti being pounded on by a pair of guristas terrorists and obviously in trouble. He's taking a beating and launching missiles in batches like a panicked neophyte, so that they blow each other up and do no damage. So I target the one closest to him to see how he's doing. He's got about half the shield gone on it when he punches his MWD and pulls out to range and fires off another batch of missiles, of course they do no real damage.
Being the helpful kind of guy I am, and knowing he's low on cap from overuse of his MWD, I line up my lovely new 1400mm arties and blow the terrorist out of space. And then do the same to the other thats chasing him. I ask if he's doing ok in local and get no response. A few seconds later he warps out to station when the scramble expires.
Since he's vacated the spawn point and my guns aren't fully blooded yet, I do what anyone with excess ammo and an itchy trigger finger does. I start killing rats. My corpmate shows up to assist in loot retrieval from my kills. About 8 kills later, roughly 5 minutes, Durruti returns with another member of Jericho whose name escapes me. The other member parks a little ways off while Durruti proceeds to clean up all the loot from all my kills, using his MWD to jet from one can to another ahead of my corpmate. All this time I am protesting such blatant thievery in local channel. I remain civil about it however, he's obviously not thinking clearly after a bad engagement and facing the prospect of losing his ship to NPCs. He doesn't respond to anything that I say.
After he cleans up everything, he and his corp mate warp out to stargate and just before he leaves the system he says "Lay off the drugs guys."
Ok, so I lost a little pirate loot, probably none of it valuable, but theft is theft. I can't imagine the leaders of Jericho condone such behavior although this being my first real encounter with a member of the NVA, I suppose I don't have any frame of reference.
So anyway, if you see Durruti in trouble some place, let him fall. He doesn't deserve your help. |

Edited by: Cormyat Astara on 16/11/2003 23:29:14 Assuming that your story is 100% truthful, it does sound like a severe case of ingratitude.
If someone saved my ass from trouble...I'd be the first to say, "hey man, spawn's yours, lemme go equip some armor repairers."
Question I have is...what was he flying? Because 1/2 shields is really not that much of a problem against Terrorists. They are probably the weakest 20K rats in the game. Maybe he didn't fully understand why you targeted him?
Most people in the NVA are fairly cool...as long as you aren't a PC Rat.

I didn't target him, he had only reduced the shields of the terrorist attacking him by half, I don't know his exact shield state but he was obviously in trouble. He was using all his cap for the MWD and not shooting back at his attacker.
And Miso, theft is theft, I hope you can still roll your eyes after he rips your corp blind. I'm not saying he's the worst thing that has ever happened, but when you help someone in trouble out, you should expect at least not to get ripped off as thanks.

I've always said that we need some way to ascertain the "state" of another player without having to commit to an "aggresive" target lock.
Too bloody hard to tell if someone is in trouble otherwise...and if you target anybody they rarely assume its "friendly" (I know i dont)
Same for certain ECM/Stat boosters (energy/shield boost, track enhancers etc - all need "friendly locks" for which there is no current distinction)

Erm - what was the post about - oh yeah Otaleito.
Sounds like confusion and a bit of panic to me. **** happens.
How is Egbinger nowadays? (Long way from home aint ya?)

That would help a lot.
EMC abandoned Egbinger back about a week after live when RUS corp decided it would be a nice place to live. Never changed the corp name since it was ours from beta. |

RUS took over Egbinger?
Damn thats a shame... i used to live in Egbinger... once upon a time.
I guess RUS are hoping the drugs trade re-opens from Serps and they can run the old drugs runs as they did way back in beta...
hmm i wonder...
Did you leave voluntarily or get "pushed"? (I didnt hear anything on the news about it)

"I've always said that we need some way to ascertain the "state" of another player without having to commit to an "aggresive" target lock."
... A bit different approach, but... some sort of "call for help" button perhaps, so people could request it themselves if they feel they need that? Pressed, would broadcast a message along the lines of "<So and so> in <asteroid belt 3 of Planet 7> is taking severe beating and begging for assistance" in local, in letters of different, attention catching colour.
Could attract the pirates, or be misused as a trap, obviously.... but hey, that's half of fun one might have with it ;s

We left ages ago, back in June. It was sorta voluntary, we knew that if we stayed it would be bad for us. We moved to Ennur after that for a while, then out into the Curse region. I forget the reasons for moving to Lonetrek, but we've been here ever since, except for one short week back in Curse which happened to coincide with the founding of the CA. That one we left under threat. ==========

Ingratitude sucks.
I flew into an abandoned station spawn in ******* system in Aridia region and saw a Moa running for it's life from a 30k and a 20k pirate. Apparently the 30k had him scrambled and he was taking a beating on both sides. I asked him in local if he needed a hand, to which he replied quite calmly "Yes, please." I had already targetted the npcs so I knew they still had some shields left. I proceeded to take the npcs out and he warped out after the scramble ended.
In local after that he thanked me and said I could have whatever was lying around the spawn loot-wise. Overall a very civil and respectable pilot that just got caught too close to a big rat while trying to retrieve some loot. =============== Killboard: http://www.celeskills.com

I'm gonna guess it totally looked to him like you just took over his spawn.
There's a chance he might've actually not been in trouble. Just cause he was using MWD doesn't mean he was out of cap. Depending on your loadout MWD's not that big of a hit. I'm just guessing that someone named Durruti wouldn't tend to be a jerk.

Edited by: Durruti on 17/11/2003 09:10:25 Hi,
We weren't in any trouble and in fact Shari and myself were just testing torps prior to going to hunt (unsuccessfully) a well-known but un-named PC rat.
I didn't see you ask if we needed help, which is something I'd personally do at a NPC spawn before cutting in. As for robbing any loot, if you'd care to stop by the Jericho Fraction office in H-PA29 I'd be happy to reimburse you from my extensive stocks of Small Hybrid ammo and Civilian Shield Boosters.
Anyway seriously now, sorry if there's any offence caused by this misunderstanding; it wasn't the 1st one I had in that region yesterday evening caused probably by me shooting my drunken mouth off.
Bye for now,
D

lololololololoolololool.
Miso, u make me laugh so.
guys, its not really worth the increased blood preasure is it .
He was at the spawn first and no1 really has rites over using it.
Our corp gets most of its isk from a spawn in our home system, many ppl go there, i could easily attack these ppl or warn them never to come back, i dont, why??, cause im a nice guy.
I dont kill them casue i cant, we have many corp members in the system at all times, we could easily enforce it.
if it bothers u that much, let your guns do the talking:::grrrrrrr.
take meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee to your house of pain miso, plz. bark bark.

You always were the brightest Space Invader Lianhaun, I sometimes think that if we shot you the rest would run around like headless chickens to eventually starve to death from complete inability to read the instructions on their flat-pack instomatic space muppet rations.

When I arrived at the spawn you were alone there and not firing torps, they leave a rather distinctive mark. I could see your shield booster popping on and off, and your short bursts of MWD made it appear as if you were low on cap and in trouble. I asked and joined the fight when I received no reply because I tend to ignore local chat when I'm in trouble and focus on the fight at hand. After you left, I figured the spawn was wide open and fair game, so I started. No recompense is necessary unless you found something really awesomely rare. (Pssh, not likely)

Then I apologize as well for taking a simple misundertanding to the court of public opinion. If the un-named PC pirate you were hunting is who I think it was you'll have my thanks for ridding us of him. |
