eve-search is giving me errors, and I'm not seeing any posts with the information I'm looking for. Is there a guide for safe trading somewhere? I keep hearing stories about pirates killing people/suiciding in .5 - 1.0 and still getting the loot. What's the best way to avoid this solo at various levels of cargo: 1 M, 10 M, 100 M ISK. How risky is it? I'm pretty new, and I'm trying out the differenty types of gameplay... what type of advancement path should a solo trader shoot for?

Look at it this way; a cheaply fitted Raven costs about 35-40 mil to lose, just the insurance plus cost of fitting. Add to that the fact that a certain (variable) percentage of the loot will go boom when you pop.
So, as long as you're not moving more than, say, 50-60mil you'll probably be safe in a normal hauler. Anything above that they'll take their chances and pop your ship, losing that 40 mil in the process and hoping the loot will be worth more than the 40 mil.

I haven't come close to bein an effective trader... but I suppose this helped give me a better overall idea of tradeing. It's the Trade Guide 101 you may have already seen stickied.

Also, trade analyzer is supposed to really help. Google for it, I think it's on sourceforge.net.

You're better off using your head and seeing the opportunities when they present themselves. Using the same tool like 50 zillion other people do really isn't going to help you much :)
Also, forget about the idea that you need hauler or bigger to make a nice profit. I can (and do, when I can be bothered) move stuff in a frigate that'll easily make me 50 mil profit.

I love you. No, no, I keed :) But seriously, from what I've been reading, that's not possible unless you have a slavish dedication to the market, and freakish knowledge of the systems. Any hints? I promise, I'll stay out of your space. :)

ok, trading 101.
Q: What is trading? A: Making a living of the ignorance and lazyness of other people
Then you'll have to ask yourself who the most lazy and ignorant (when it comes to prices and availability) players are, the answer is ofcourse the PVPer; they want their modules NOW, in THIS system and preferably in the same station and they need proper modulesas well, willing to pay premium prices because they have to (they're camped or at war) and because they have better things to do (pewpew).
Now I'll leave it up to you what kind of modules those are and where to buy and sell them :)

Mission runners are a close second in my opinion.

Work out what systems have good agents and what race they are. Then move modules into that system which those players are likely to use. For example, in a system with a high number of Caldari agents and hence Caldari mission runners flying caldari ships, you'll need missiles, hybrid ammo, shield extenders, shield hardeners, etc.
If you do your homework more, you can see what level agents there are, and hence what ships the runners are likely to be flying and modules they'll be fitting, thus you can tailor your services and goods further.
Enough hints for you?

I'll offer one HUGE hint: One of the highest-margin items for selling in low-sec is ammunition.

Ok, I think I get ya. Is this kind of work by escrow/contract mostly? Or is it something one can just price around with market details?

Yup this can be done completely through the regular market, basically your looking to find the high in demand items, and buying low, selling high.
One tool that’s inbuilt into eve that many people never even notice is the market history tab on the market screen, use it to try to figure out how much you should be changing for something, and how much lower than average a seemingly low priced item actually is.

The trick is not to go for high volume goods, but rather high priced, low volume/low m3 stuff.

Is it possible to see how much an item is selling?
I am looking for these sorts of orders but how do I know whether an item is even selling at all or not?
