One of my corp mates got scammed today, the same armageddon bait and switch scam that has been going around. The scammers name is Chikobu - even after the scam he was still active in the trade channel advertising an armageddon for sale. Avoid dealing with him at all costs, he cannot be trusted. Also, a little vigilante justice might set him straight :)

Later in the help channel he insinuated that he was an alt of a member of the pirate alliance when he opposed full insurances as 'his' goal was to drive the NVA out, not beat their fleets over and over...
As for your member, I'd urge you to advise him against buying anything from anyone in an NPC corporation on the Trade Channel for production cost. We don't need to feed the animals.

Edited by: Lord Azraiel on 17/11/2003 07:33:01 Uhg, another case of stupidity. Why doesn't anyone check the info on things they buy? A lot of scams could be avoided this way. "I'm comin' for ya, and Hell's comin' with me!" |

Would it not be in CCP's interests to ban scammers.
All this about checking is fine - but scammers should be booted.

Ahh but if scammers get caught they should be confined. If person is know should be booted.
Person loses BS due to cap bug. Then buys ano BS say 50 - 60m and loses that to scam.
Would be enough to get people to throw in the towel...
Is that what CCP wants...

So far I count this post being posted 5 times, where is a board mod when you want one.
Once in New Eve Citizens Once in Ships and Modules Once in Market Once in Crime and Punishment And of course, once in Eve General Discussion
Can we please get 4 of these locked and/or deleted?

First off I would like to point out a disturbing fact about the trade window. If you have something inside the trade window, say an 80million isk Battleship, and the server shuts down. Whatever was left in the trade window disappears. So always try to reduce the amount of time you have something sitting in the trade window.
Now here is what I do.. I open the trade and wait for the player to add the items I wish to purchase.. Then I accept the trade w/o adding my part of the deal. This gives me time to go over the info without worrying about the other guy making a switch. If he were to switch things while i'm checking them out, my little tick for accepting the trade will disappear.
Once i'm satisfied I have the right stuff. And my acception-tick hasn't disappeared due to tampering on the other end. I then add the money and re-accept the trade.
So basically I use the tick-acception thingy as a way to make sure a switch hasn't been made while I view the attributes of the item.
5 R&D Agents, 10months, Zero BPO Offers.. Onboard navigational [Planetary Avoidance] computer.
My account will be suspended at the end of the current play period. Expires on 19. September 2004 |

Confirmed, was shifting a ship and modules to a new member once, server went down before he got around to accepting and it was all lost, no refund.

Very good, you can count, we are all quite impressed. As for it being in 5 places, it serves to make everyone aware of it (for those of us who dont read all the forums...say for new players who only read the new citizens forum). But, again, congratulations on your uber counting skills.

Why is it that 99% of the posts about people getting scammed is always "a corpmate", why didn't they post, or it is because the person that posted was the scammed one and didn't want to step up to the embarasment?

Why are scams supposedly allowed in Eve? My impression is because they want Eve to be realistic. However the majority of scammers I have seen in EVE are alts which are immediately deleted after being discovered.
One guy named Gucifer existed for 1 day in Eve, in that time he scammed 2 non alt players who subsequently cancelled their accounts. Gucifer no longer exists. How is this good for Eve?
Scammers = cancelled subscriptions and thats about it.

i completely agree with that - scammers should be listed and names sent to CCP or concord (whatever suits)
what we need is more linkage from alts to main characters
anyway - wtf is this bait and switch thing?

I aggre that after the petition had been sent in that the main characters name should be published and that slot wich the was used to make the alt that scammed should be frozen for 1 week, after 2 proven scams, 2 weeks, on so on.
But, lets say those peaple who are scammed and left the game werent scammed, lets say they lost their ships to pirates and THEN left the game, should the pirates be banned as well
I think that when peaple leave the game its not because of other players doing wrong on them, but because they are merely bored and looking for an excuse to quit.
It is possible to play the game even though you dont have uber battleship and a lot of millions in wallet.

Would be interesting if you could petition the instance if you have a log of what occured and that account would be marked, not unlike the soul-marking in EQ when a character has done something horribly wrong. The owner of the account will get notified each time they get marked and if they continue to do what they are doing, the account will be closed.

armageddon gets switched for an omen called "Armageddon" in the last seconds of trade. Since the ships look similar people click accept...

Two things:
1) Player named titles for ships shouldn't be displayed in trade window, I didn't know they were and that's just dumb if that's the truth. Only the real item-name should be displayed.
2) Trade window should have both a primary and a secondary acceptance button... Primary will lock the items/cash so they cannot be moved or altered, and secondary will complete the trade. call them Lock and Accept, you can only Accept once Lock is acchived from both ends, and only once Accept is achived from both ends is the transfer made. You cannot unlock after one person has clicked accept and both needs to in unaccepted mode for either to unlock. Very simple really, and would make it very secure with regard to last-second-changes which basicly won't be possible at all.

Might I suggest only accepting properly packaged goods?
I don't believe that a renamed ship keeps it's name when repackaged. Paying attention to details goes a long way.

1. Unfortunatly that is due to the fact that it's an unpackaged ship. If it was to be packaged, then it would show as correct name.
2. LOVE this idea, have you posted such on the ideas forums at all?

Yes people, and remember, always repackage your ships as well. I sold a Dom once to someone and forgot to empty my cargohold and drone bay. They were packed full of drones and pirate loot. If I had repackaged, this wouls not have happened. Luckily the guy was nice enough to give my stuff back, but there arent many people out there like him. Thanks Project 2502!!!
