Edited by: Ask Jeeves on 02/12/2006 02:24:24 i seem to be getting bad performance when on missions and in fleet battles. normaly i have a good framerate of around 120 fps. i have a good system (core 2 duo, 2024 ddr2 ram, 7600gt, 700w ocz psu. my system is new and clean. basicly i think maybe the low performance is becuase i see on task manager that Eve is only using 30-40 percent of the cpu. things just get really jerky when theres a lot of npc's on a mission. this shouldnt really be happening with my system. so anyone know anything which could help me here?

30 to 40 percent CPU useage is really good. You should worry about that if it stays above 75 to 85 percent all the time. You should get high CPU useage spikes occasionally. Like when starting a a program, or in Eves case jumping or entering a base. Eves terminolagy is "Session Change". Where the problem lies, is when you get to an area that has a lot of item in space. Test it out by going to an asteroid field and panning around with all the player storage containers in view. Basicly, its more like a lag issue. Data being pssed from your computer to the CCP servers is taking up valiable resources on your computer needed for graphics rendering.

you may also notice the FPS drop when you start a warp to gate. This is part of the problem. The Eve client and the Eve servers may not exchange data quickly enough. So your picture will seem jerky while the real time changes are happening but the data exchange is not keeping up. You will see this issue happen a lot when you have a large group of ships shooting at another large group of ships. Please keep in mind, CCP can not control the internet issues that you ISP is experiencing. And the internet is ussually where the problems are.

Edited by: Submunch on 02/12/2006 06:12:10 I don't agree. I think all the star systems showing up in the background is causing major frame rate reduction. Mine totally sucks now. Why the hell show all the star systems and make our PCs process those when it doesn't friggin matter to what we're doing in the system we are in? Yeah it looks cool when you hit star map now and it smoothly zooms out to the map, but if that is the only reason they have all the star systems showing up in the background now, what a waste. How the heck do I turn off all those dots (star systems) on my screen? Any help would be appreciated.

You are right also. The more your graphics card has to do the lower the FPS. But i don't think the star map background made a big impact. I have only seen my FPS drop by a few frams because of it. I'm currently rumming an Athlon 2700 with a Geforce 6600GT, and the only time i see a major drop in FPS is when there are a lot of people in the system. but that does not mean it is the only factor. Thats just the main factor in my FPS drop.
