Well, after watching the past few tournaments, I would have to say, a job well done to xodius again. he brings a certain amount of profesionalism that I think the studio sometimes lacks (please dont take that as a flame, its just my personal opinion).
I have to also say that the best addition this year would have to be Trevedian, although it would have been good to see him fight, I think he adds a certain amount of background knowledge of most ships and tactics in both day to day eve and the Tournament itself. Its nice to have someone with a good amount of knowledge involved in the broadcast, especially seeing as some fights are quite boring to watch, and the commentators need to be able to say something other than, 'yup, they are all still shooting eachother'. Tevedian stands head and shoulders above the other commentator imo, although I guess it might depend on what your looking for from the broadcast, seeing as im more interested in hearing how to counter the setups being used, what they are most likely hoping to acheive by using certain setups etc.
What does everyone else think? Are there additions/subtractions you would make? Is there someone you think should be on the panel or commentating?

You're kidding...
Listening to the fight between SMASH and Sani Khal'vecna, and he keeps saying he has no idea why they took a Scorp. And can't understand how well it's able to tank.
1) It was shield repping the Curse 2) It has 8 bloody mid-slots. That's a hell-of-a-tank
The match commentators are just as terrible as last time from what I've seen, I mean, they still can't tell what ships are which at times. ---

There was a bit of an uproar on SKV TeamSpeak when he said he didnt know why we had chosen the scorp. As you said 8 mids and something like 1000 shield point transfer every 1-2 seconds ;/

Yes, because I have time to fly to Iceland, be there for a weekend when I have exams coming up. That makes a whole lot of sense.
If I had the time (and probably money) it'd be a great experience, and maybe being "on air" would make me totally forget nearly everything about the ships/game, but I somehow doubt that. ---

Exams, money etc .. tell me about it. Have the same problems. Though all I am saying is that you should try and not be so harsh on the commentators. I doubt they magicaly forget everything they know but they tend to make more misstakes than the rest of us sitting infront of the screen. Hell even I can sit and correct them from time to time but I would not wanna be in their position. Going on air and being broadcasted to thousands of people kinda makes you a target for complaints
Now if only the streams would stop buffering -----------------------------------------------

I'd like to say that some of the insights during the commentary were beyond me, and that's why I'm listening after all:
To learn from the Pros (and if they miss a ship name every once in a while in the heat of the limelight, well, that makes me feel less humble - I bet I'd be worse).
Example: Using Vigils with fast locking to Target Paint enemy small targets to make it easier for the own heavy hitters to lock them without fitting signal boosters - but of course increased signature size would also improve locking time.
And the thing about using Remote Sensor Dampeners to hamper support (like it did in the Impoc / Absolution team) was pretty obvious once pointed out, but I just didn't look that way.
Who fits a Remote Sensor Dampener to a Caracal anyway!
Good job! --

I dunno, I think using a scorp was a really bad idea. A raven has a much stronger tank over time and significantly more damage. Trev made a good call. His experience definately shows but still makes one or two mistakes (prolly cause he suck at pvp so much <3). But yeah good call on hiring him.
JamesW was also fantastic too.

Weirda think the commentating is great! this is ENTERTAINMENT!
these guys do good job talking and making it interesting. haven't been able to hear it all (stream rabble rabble) - but Weirda have been entertained. they probably can't see thing much better then we can either (and most of complaint are next-day quarterback anyways after knowing outcome).
as for the 'color' and 'strange obvious or wrong' comment... ffs, anyone see john madden commentate a football game in US? "You see, what you want to do is get the ball up the field and score a goal..." um... yeah...
kudos to EVE TV. hopefully we get the sweet stream tomorrow - it gonna be fun!

I think last year's commentators, although they did a good job, lacked sufficient combat experience to supply deep commentary. Trev especially is good this year.
I'll be watching tomorrow. Should be exciting.

Thanks for your support Shin Ra, coming here on a days notice with no professional broadcast experience and doing play-by-play commentary isnŠt easy. Spending six hours a day doing commentary, IŠm bound to make a few mistakes (I called a Nighthawk a Nightmare, etc.) but its getting easier.
As for IdaraŠs comments, I am aware the Scorpian had 8 midslots but I really donŠt think its a good choice for this tournament since ECM isnŠt allowed. As I stated during the fight, a Scorp has a small capacitor, does very little damage, and a Raven seems like a much wiser choice. Who cares if the Scorp is using a Shield Transfer, it has LESS highslots for the Shield Transfer than a Raven and a smaller cap so it generates less juice to run it.
I may be wrong but it appears that ALOT of teams are choosing to use Ravens (I have never been good with numbers, there are too many of them) and we have only seen two Scorpians (Prolly the same team twice).
Idara, u still bitter over the merc contract we took against you while you were in Black Storm Clam? I know we smacked ya, but you guys really were afraid to undock and you never tried to engage us at all.

i think it was good, the only thing that bugs me is when they say something like "oh, now they are hitting 2 targets, they should focus fire" or something...they need to realize that drones are borked, and after the first target dies/goes out of range its near impossible to control them -------------------------- this is my main :( |

The only complaint I have about the announcers is the fact that none of them seem to realize that every team is using sensor damps. When someone isn't going after a target that you think should obviously be primary, or have their damage spread out, it's likely that instead of us being idiots, it's because we're damped to the point where our drones go to whoever, or we can't target the ship we'd like to call primary.
In this last fight I just watched, they were bashing one team for not going after the curse. There were still 2 maulus's left dampening the last ship, a navy megathron, so how exactly is it supposed to be able to target a curse orbitting at 30k? That's probably the reason they didn't get after it in the first place, they couldn't target it.

Some sort of feed from all the people cramming local should be possible to report on, dampeners, who is going for what, illegal containers being dropped, who is near the edge of the arena...
I enjoy the fights, they still could improve though by more info being fed from the guys who crowd me on the battlefield.

The one thing that's hard to tell even with very good camera work (and there is some excellent camera work) is distances.
Fortunately it's easy enough to tell your own place in space with overview and tactical overlay, but even trying to figure the closest target for a bunch of your own drones sometimes is damn hard.
A fleet commander could have the skills to figure targets in optimal for his gang just by looking at a camera feed, but still, it's damn hard.
Anyway, yes, add dampening to that, and don't even get me started on drone target preferences. I'm surprised none tried to attack LeMonde or a camera ship yet.
[There was supposed to be a point here, but it accidentally warped out of range I believe.] --
