Re-post from: "Droneses? Droneses!!" (Haywire drones since update???)
Solution is as follows: ********************************************************************
Assign your drones into folders, for example: "Heavy" and "Light."
Launch Drones from folder.
Under "Drones In Local Space," Find the drone folder you launched from.
Command Drones using this folder, NOT just the "Drones In Local Space" header. Your drones will probably just ignore you if you are trying to command them simply by using the "Drones In Local Space" header. If you use your launch folder to command them, they WILL obey. (Confirmed)

Indeed, I have also submitted a bug report.
In the mean time, your drones will work if you use the drone folder technique.
And you do not have to command them individually either, just use the drone launch folder title to carry out all your commands. (Ex. Right click on "Heavy" under "Drones In Local Space," and command drones to engage your target.
This works every time.
Indeed it is a slight bit more tedious then the (apparently) popular non-folder, drone control, yet once you learn how to use the custom folders, it isn't nearly that big of a problem. That said the report has been submitted.
Any other questions relating to drone control (still not working?) are welcome.

Originally by: franny i've had my drones in folders as long as I can remember still, since the patch i've had drones wander off to shoot anything they wanted i've had drones just drop from my control(not distant space, not local, just gone) but it was a sentry drone, the rats didn't shoot it, and I was able to recover it by manualy telling it to get in my domi's belly i've had drones not engage targets at all
none of my corpmates are/were having issues, I thought it might be my install so I was gonna uninstal and fresh install it on tuesday after the patch guess i'll just bug report it when it happens again
I am not advocating "just" the use of drone folders for organization, but rather for controlling them.
Therefore, do not simply organize your drones into folders and simply try to give them orders from the "Drones In Local Space" header.
Instead, after launching your drones from your folder, Left Click on "Drones In Local Space" header.
This will reveal the folder you initially launched your drones from. Use this folder EXCLUSIVELY for issuing drone commands.
You can now Right Click the folder and issue normal commands and the drones will obey.

My drones are organized as fighter bomber (med) and escort fighters (light).
I launch them by right clicking on the folder and launching drones.
I command them by right clicking the drones in space folder and they behave just fine.

I do control them by the folder lvl(domi-l, domi-s, sentrys, ishtar-m, ewar, etc depending on ship and need at the time) I actually expand the folder lvl too, so I can see their health and wtf they are doing(to some extent), reposition the ship camera to look at what i'm tellign them to attack, count the little bastages, spam commands till they work
4.6m SP or so in drones, gall BS 5, gall cruiser 5 i've been controlling them in my ishkur, ishtar, and domi the same way(off the folder) for as long as I can remember
I shoulda made the orginal post clearer, but i'm posting at work

First, if you haven't already done so, I would recommend filing a bug report to ccp. Not sure what else you can do other than perhaps reinstalling the client, as this method has worked for a number of people. So far this is the first report of it not working. Is there anyone else who has tried the "Folder Control Method" without success?
Thank you for your response.

Well then I'm the second one where it won't work as I stated in another thread where you did put your solution. Being a Dominix user myself I can't imagine *not* using folders. But that had not helped the issue before Revelations and does not help it now unfortunately. Just give me dumb drones and I'm fine. I don't care if they won't aggro anything on their own as long as they follow orders.

I've always organized my drones into folder (even in my rax with just 5 med drones I'd have them in the "medium" drones folder) and never really had a problem with controlling drones, I've always been confused when people would complain about their drone control issues. The only issue I have ever had is trying to have heavy drones go 50km+ to a target, then when they get to about 35km they get bored with flying towards that target and wonder to something else, I retell them to engage the target I want and the problem is solved.
In conclusion, I support the drone folder organization technique

Thanks for the info. My unstanding at this point is that this specific issue was for people since the latest update, who did not have an issue beforehand but now do.
Before the Revelations update, and even going back to when I started playing in Exodus, drones would follow orders if you put them in folders or not. I mean before I knew about the folders, the drones would respond to orders once launch simply by issuing commands from the "Drones In Local Space" header.
Now they do not respond 100% when you command them from the header alone. It becomes neccessary to use the subsequent folder to issue commands. And it does work post update.
For those of you who have had issues with drones acting erratic pre-Revelations, this solution will not work and a fresh install is recommended. However, since there is another patch right around the corner, you may want to wait and see if it addresses the Drone Control issues.
However I still maintain that this method will work for those who have been affected since the update.

I'm afraid I'll have to add a voice of dissent then. I've always used folders (pre-RMR it was necessary when a group could have more than 5 drones in) and like one of the previous posters I tend to keep it open to view HPs and what the heck they are doing.
I control using the folder (not the "Drones in Local Space") for example "light" or "medium", I have carried out a reinstall of the client (to resolve another issue) post Revelations and my drones still do what the heck they want halfway through fighting things. It's as though something in the AI has been changed to go "ohhhh shiney" and wander off to kill other stuff.
That said they only wander off to kill: a) something you're shooting at b) something that is shooting at you (red brackets)
It's not like back in the day when they used to wander off and start trying to kill a group you didn't want aggressed *just* yet.
Currently collecting more information for bug report. I have not tried with mining drones so can't tell if they wander off and start randomly mining Veld instead of what you want them to mine

Did you have this problem before Revelation? I did not.

I've only ever used a folders method for organizing and ordering the drones around, and I don't have problems with drones behaving contrary to what I tell them to do. Occasionally (not frequently) I'll order drones to return to the drone bay, and one or two will return and orbit, but thats never become a problem.

Excellent thank you for your post.
Some people have not had an issue, while others have. It seems pretty much the norm that people who have not used the folder technique (mainly newer players) were having issue and complaining. Still, others whose drones acted on their own before Revelations are still having a problem. Thank you for confirming that it still works for you.

There were problems (a long while ago) where the drones did what they wanted but I have not really had any problems since Exodus/Cold War (whenever it was the drones got smarter). Also Pre-Revelations I used a webber drone with my heavies, obviously as you can't mix groups this was controlled by "Drones in Local Space" and there was no issue with it, I haven't used the ship with this drone loadout yet so can't comment if it would still work ...
Since Revelations hit they have been a bit "unruly", I carried out the reinstall yesterday during downtime in an attempt to diagnose something else that had happened and the drones are still misbehaving.
Most common behaviour is that they engage the target you tell them to then between 2 and all of them decide after a few seconds that other things are more interesting and wander off to kill them. This can cause all the "anarchist" drones to choose the same different target or they end up scattered around the ships attacking you. Attack command drags them back again but they have been known to wander off and do their own thing 2 or 3 times before the "true" target dies.
All commands including return to drone bay issued using drone folder. This morning I have also encountered the return of drones "slowboating" on return to drone bay. I.e. when they used to slow down *just* outside 1500m to less than the speed of your ship and you had to turn round and pick them back up. Obviously this doesn't apply when you are stopped

men, why should it be a bug? it is not. it's stupid to control drones 1 by 1, that's why folders where introduced: you broadcast a command for all the drones and they execute, why do you think it's a bug?

And the point that certain people are making here is that they use folders as a means to organise and broadcast commands to a specific set of drones and that set of drones doesn't follow the command ... hence it is a bug ...
Yes I could understand if I commanded one drone to do something the others *should* go do their own thing (or die painfully) but then that's pretty obviously not a bug and is "as intended".

Great post thank you.
It does now seem to indicate 3 seperate groups of people at the moment:
1. People who have always had troublesome drones 2. People who have had trouble only since the Revelations update 3. People who have not ever had trouble
The drone "humping" or "bobbing" issue seems to have always been around. It happened to me last time, about a month ago, but hasn't happened since. Apparently, the drone code is something that deserves a good look at by CCP.
Also, you can make custom folders for mixed groups, for example:
Folder: GOTCHA 1 - Heavy Webber 1 - Ogre II 1 - Praetor II 1 - Berserker II 1 - Wasp II
Not that I advocate that kind of group. Still if you have the skills, you can make any kind of mix and still control them from your initial launch folder, while keeping a close eye on their activities.
Thanks for the post.

That is what we are trying to find out, whether or not it is a bug.
And no one advocated what you said, controlling one drone at a time.
Thanks.

AA. I've used the folder control method for about 6 months. No change has been experienced post patch. It is a case of (and always has been) that once the drones are launched, unless they are given a close target they will change their minds on the way to the target and attack either one target.. or split up amongst a group. FYI Ogres are by far the worst offenders, and I have had almost nil occasions of this from other drone types.. whether it be because they are extremely slow or something else? Usually, once between 25-35k out from the ship they will 'change status' as in flash green for a moment and then decide on their own target, with this always being the one I did not have in mind The only time they will be guaranteed to attack the target is if its all that is left... (as I said, only Ogres do this for me though).
