agreed , CCP bent over with the mechanic-survey 3 change in next weeks patch. Perhaps a better solution is to colour code blue for ships without loot and white for those with ( wrecks i mean) it doesnt change anything even if it has loot the old scanner or tractor beam or checking the can remains in place but it indiciates what has and what doesnt have but then again this defeats the system of actually checking every wreck.

Edited by: keepiru on 03/12/2006 08:30:21 The problem is not the fact that you have to check each wreck.
The problem is how long it takes to salvage enough to make a rig.
Even if you only want to make salvaging more profitable than mining veldspar in 1.0 - a considerably safer profession than spending minutes on end sitting still in a belt in 0.0, the only place that currently yelds enough mats to be worth bothering with - the least useful T1 rig will cost like a high-end T2 mod. Its a simple question of isk/hr.
On SISI build requirement have been halved, but since they still need 200-350 materials each, and that's something in the region 5 hours spent just salvaging per rig in 0.0, it has to more profitable than a similarly boring 0.0 activity.
The activity that's closest to it, mining high-end ore, will net an organized player something in the region of 250m isk in the time period spent salvaging 1 rig, so rigs must sell for 250m isk or more - closer to 400 for the better T1 rigs - or its simply not worth bothering with.
When you consider that you can't find out the effects of a rig's penalties until its fitted, and it the only way to remove it destroys the rig and removes insurance, this means rigs are a highsec mission-runner only item.
And that's the LAST thing this game needs. ----------------

I have trained the salvage skills up. I'm currently at Salvaging level 4, and i still fail too often/ Will be at salvage 5 in 10 days, so we['lls see how it goes.
But from someone who has been traiing the skills up from the earilest possible time. it sucks, because the failure rate is too high. I would not mind it at all if the salvager always ran one cycle, and your skill determines your yield, if any. I simply hate running a salvager on a wreck 5-6 times failing, than getting it to work, but there was no salvage.

Its two (2) rank one (1) skills, one of them are even usefull, now if you spend months training ECM skills I might feel sorry for you.

Edited by: MissileRus on 03/12/2006 11:36:33 whats wrong with shooting the wrecks??? ffs people cant always expect to get full profit from everything, if they cant manage a simple thing as keeping a track of their wrecks(either by tractor beam or some other system of the 100000 different ways you can keep track of stuff) they should NOT play eve! i mean its rofl....
theres tons and tons of ways to sort wrecks, eves players do not need to over simplify everything, this is not WoW, this is a complicated game where you have to think for yourself and id like to keep it that way..

do you have salvage rigs installed? no? they give alot of extra % chance it cant be too easy you know, its a profession...... anyone not investing skillpoints and modules to mining cant mine very good. tbh i think its almost too easy as it is now, takes no time at all to train the stuff compared to lots of other things thats way way way less usefull..

It's making a me a LOT of quick ISK. I made about 80mil off one mission (Guristas Pirate Slaughter) yesterday from salvage alone. Cormorant with 3 tractors and 5 salvagers makes it go fast.
What the problem is is that rigs are going to be completely unusable on PvP ships which aren't already faction fitted because of the prohibitively high requirements, and thus cost.
Your average t1 rig takes something like 10-12 hours of lvl4 grinding to make, and level4s currently make far more components than PvP.
It's frankly stupid at the moment.

I think rigs and salvaging is just fine, you might not find all the stuff you need to create a rig but you can trade or buy from a guy that has.

theres a simple fix to the "which wreck has loot" change mission rats so they only drop cans , if people want to salvage force them to pvp or go low sec.
the game is allready FAR to carebear and easymode! ccp wonder why people dont leave empire , its because they dont have enough reasons to! ------------------------------------------ My opinions are my own and not that of the alliance I belong to. |

Sorry I could not help myself. You want others to conform to your style of gaming, because this it is how it should be played? I'm not even going to comment further on that one.
And I wonder when these drag-everone-to-lowsec space threads are going to stop. CCP will never ever do anthing about this. Remember the remove instas threads? Everyone wanted to remove all traces of possibility to warp on top of gates and stations. They removed instas allright, but gave you the possibility to warp to 0 if you do it manually.
Why? Because 80% of the playerbase wants it this way. Why are they not going to change missions in this way? Just for the same reason. While many players that think of themselves as hardc0re and "knows" how this game should be played you have to know that countless others just play this game to phaze out and get away from everyday life. Like doing 10 missions just to have an excuse to be away from wife/husband and children for a while. Or not to study for that exam.
These people pay the brunt of the monthly cost for the server, not the rest. In any MMO most gamers are casual gamers. But also in every MMO's board, you find similar discussions because those "elite" few wants the rest to play like they play. Well, it is not going to happen. But have a nice day hoping for it |

You really don't have a clue do you?.
At the mo', virtually anything worth getting is in low sec, all the ores, salvage materials, gas clouds for boosters and all the good exploration sites.
People don't go down to low sec for different reasons. Some people don't want to pvp, nothing you say or do will change that.
Some people can't afford to keep replacing ships.
Some people can't be bothered with alliance politics.
Some people have many other reasons different to those stated above.
Neraly forgot about gate camps
Your 'simple fixed' and general view of eve is flawed as like many others, you fail to understand the game wasn't made soley for your play style. In eve, you can do what you wan't, simple as.

A lot of people simply don't want to have a single thing to do with PVP. Industry is an equally valid way of gameplay too, and BUILDING rigs should be something that industry-people do, not PVPers. Forcing industry-oriented people into lowsec and 0.0 only accomplishes one thing - the supply for the products which they would produce with empire access drops radically because they're not willing to risk it in lowsec/0.0. Nothing wrong with this in my opinion, without those "carebears" you would be paying hell of a lot higher prices for all modules bought in empire.
Salvaging is fine as it is, I've collected over 400 components for building rigs within 2 days of gameplay now. You just need to know who drops what. It shouldn't be too easy to build rigs in my opinion, or else everyone will be doing it. It should require specialization into salvaging and rig building, just as you need specialization to be effective in any other area of the game too. What I'd like to see is more skills in the area of salvaging, for example component or faction -specific skills to salvage parts - ie. If you want parts that serpentis drop, you need to train up "serpentis salvaging methods" or something similar. Make salvaging a profession of its own, not simply a small addition to the skilltree which can be maxed in a couple of weeks.

No reason to feed high sec mission runners with even more rewards. We compete all on the same market and if the rig supply is given to mission grinders, then it effects us all. As an alliance player during war times, my time for carebearing stuff is probably much more limited than your time. My playstyle should be supported, too, but it becomes more difficult, the easier and more rewarding they make it for the mission-grinding folk.
Well, if I'm ever forced to go to empire again to make money and see a lot juicy carebears in juicy ships with juicy fittings, I know what I do. -------------------------- Post with your main !!!111 |

Whilst I agree with some of the opinions expressed on this thread so far, I feel I ought to point out the obvious exceptions.
1) The Ops thread title is a little presumptuous since it suggests that anyone who doesn't believe that 'salvaging is "spot on"' must by definition be a 'whinger' and therefore not entitled to counter-argue such a blatently biassed and woefully unsupported statement.
2) According to Missile'fanboy'Rus, despite the seemingly obvious and one would think practical suggestion of simply ammending the wreck overview properties to indicate which wrecks had been looted and/or salvaged 'successfully', we should all make use of the 100000 impractical and time-consuming alternatives - don't be so dismissive !!
3) Once again the gank-bears tried unsuccessfully to derail a completely unrelated topic with the same old nauseating tripe about forcing prat fodder into low-sec in order to sustain their armchair adrenalin habit - give it up, no one cares !

ôThis will change, and you know it. Patience is a virtue. I am sorry you cannot get al the rigs you want within one week after the patch." Why will it change? The drop rates are not changing, demand is higher then supple if anything the price will go up as demand gets bigger. Patience might not fix this.
