Hey all!
im new to this game.i have been playing EVE for one week with 2nd character on my bro¦s account. this week my own account will arrive
i have been mining since my start and now i have enough money to buy a good firgate. i noticed imikus has a lot of cargo. i just want to know if there is any other frigate that has more cargo than imikus. cuz right now i will need my ship only for mining.
have a nice day

Right. You've got a choice between Probe and Imicus I'd say. Imicus has enough space for up to 5 basic mining drones, but I think the Probe has more cargospace since each level of Minmatar frigate skill gives you a 5% bonus... Plus, you won't have the skill to use 5 drones if you are a new player...
Then once you have enough money you should look at buying an industrial ship to haul what you mine, instead of taking a trip back to station every time your cargo is full. In this case you should perhaps get one of the frigates that can mount 3 turrets, Punisher and Incursus at least, could be some others...
Just remember to use a secure canister, if you just jettison the ore then it won't be too long till you meet an ore thief, and there's nothing you can do about those, it was your mistake if you left valuable ore where anyone can take it.
Hope that helped
Peace through love, understanding and superior firepower. Real men structure tank! |

Edited by: Ana Khouri on 17/11/2003 20:54:49 Basically it's this way: The imikus with mining drones will enable you to mine faster, while the probe can carry more ore, therefore you won't need to make as many roid field - station flights.
Which of both is actually more effecient depends on you.

... If you're new i.e. with not many skills yet, then you might want to see if Navitas wouldn't serve you well... it has less cargo space than other ships mentioned, but 'tis not much of issue if you are mining into can, and her nice feature is a bonus to mining speed per skill level. o.o;

if u are going to be getting your own account this week.. save the money and transfer it to your account when u have it set up. as u cant take the one on your bros account with u... just so u know...
and yeah.. imi, or probe... probe is faster as it is minmatar depends what ya want.. if u mine into a can then haul go for the imi cos it has more drone space i believe...
if u are ferrying each load use the probe... gets from belt to station faster...

one under-used ship in a situation where hauling isn't a problem is the Burst, it's very similar to the Navitas in that it has 2 turrets and a 5% mining yield bonus per level of skill ... but it has slightly more cargo, slightly more base speed and a nice speed bonus for the skill also :) (and a second med slot .. though in this case that might not be that usefull)
the downside is no no drones, one less low slot and you'l need minmater frigate 4 and electronics 4 to be able to get the most out of it .. of course you can actually start with minmater frigate level 4 if your a minmater :) (the same goes for the navitas as far as the skills go and gallente) . ----- Apologys for any rambling that may have just occurred.

Edited by: Alan Bell on 19/11/2003 21:17:51 not sure if this works, but if u cld get a incurses, and put on 3 xcel mining beam, bout 144 cpu for that, not srue bout the cargo, u cld probably put on a few processers also http://coldfusion.online-guild.com |

Hmm was wondering when incursus would apear in this post. I prefer the incursus cuz of the 3 turret hardpoints. Not that i used all 3 for mining lasers. When i was a noob i mined in a 0.5space and i needed atleast one turret to blow up the npc. 2mininglasers 1hybrid, some drones if im not wrong.

Mining frigates Ahhh when I was a nOOb
Being Gallante my choices are:
Navitas: [Hi]2x Miner I,[Mid]1x Survey Scanner (If you can get the CPU for it) or 1xCivilian Shield Booster,[Lo]1x Basic CoProcessor (Only needs electronics Lvl 1)1x Basic Cargo Expander, [Drone Bay]2xBasic Mining Drones
Imicus: Never Fitted out an Imicus since I was a nOOb & can't remember what I fitted, something like this: [hi]2x Miner I,[mid]1x Survey Scanner, 1x Civ Shield Booster, [lo]1xBasic CoPro (if needed),[Drones]5xBasic Mining Drones (if you can't use 5 keep spares for losses)
the navitas gets you more ore per cycle than the imicus when you have low skills (How many nOObs have drones 5?) Assummed skills elec 1, mining 1, drones 2, mining drone 1
these set ups are really only for mining in 1.0 & 0.9 space. NPC's tend to be harsh on these frigates.
for mining in 0.8>0.6 take a buddy along in a frigate outfitted for combat (incursus has my vote for this role, but thats another disscussion.) Your Anode Light Neutron Particle Cannon I perfectly strikes Serpentis Smuggler, wrecking for 218.0 damage.

Edited by: JaiMaster on 02/12/2003 17:54:55 Id propose the Vigil. Can very easily equip 2x miner II, and with m2 price coming down to and below 100k, buying them before a cruiser will become standard.
Of course, you need can mining (vigil cargo is limited) and can only use 100m3 drones.
Then again, omber mining in 0.7/0.6 can be done using the 100m3 with a single hammerhead. If you can delay launching the hammer until the little peanut rats are pounding at your civilian shield boosters, it will cut them up for you :D ------- Skill points. ISK. Ships, rare equipment. Its all just a means to an end...
Your end.

Edited by: Katia Rast on 02/12/2003 20:00:00 i agree that the virgil is probably one of the better mining frigate`s since it can mount the minerII`s without any problems and still leave cpu for other stuff, you also get 3 med slots and 3 lo slots usefull for webifier against npc rats, and sheild boosters, lo slots would be simply cargo expanders, you also get a missile hardpoint with virgil for keeping the rats at bay if you mining .6 - .8 systems, although some of the other frigates could suit you just aswell like the probe, but i suppose its a matter of what you want to be seen in :)

Edited by: Dar Torn on 03/12/2003 08:44:43 A vigil with 2 miner2s would be pretty fast. I used a probe for mining at first. When I started strip mining I used a rifter with 3 eps and alot of large secure cans and a hoarder to pick up the cans.
*note: I only mined for one day in the rifter, got a stabber the next day.
