Edited by: Fracking Beach on 03/12/2006 14:43:59 I heard that all these different probe types are to be used for exploration. Is this correct?
Doesn't this make exploration extremely silly, if you need to use 4 different types of probe classes and then again 4 different probe sizes within each class to find hidden deadspaces??
Can't we just use the existing (pre-kali) probe classes to find things?
EDIT: Here's the part in sticky that describes these 4x4 new probe classes: http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=431586&page=1#8 |

Those probes are used for exploration but its unlikely you'll need to use more than 2 types to find a site.
After messing around for the last few days in Caldari space, I've used the Gravimetric Quest and the Gravimetric Comb types more than the others.
The other probes can't be used for exploration.

The only thing that sucks about exploration is that it requires Astrometrects 5 to use any of the probes. I hope they do something like they did on SiSi with makeing better probes increase with astrometrects skills. -------------------------------------------------- Loyal servant of the Amarr empire. With an educated guess, you should typically be able to narrow things down to one class.
For example, in Caldari space, you'll use whatever sensor type Caldari ships have to get the best results. There may be other types in Caldari space, but most will be of the Caldari sensor type.
Also, once you get results from a long range scan, you should be able to figure out whether you have the correct sensor type or not. Thus, even if you use multiple longrange types, you'll likely only need to go with one class of the shortrange types.
You could use the "old" probes to find hidden deadspaces, but you would not have a very good chance of finding them due to the low sensor strength of those probes. I'd have to look at the accuracy values of the "new" probes, but they might prove superior for hunting down hard-to-find ships (ceptors with ECCM for example) if you have extra time. (The new probes have much higher sensor strengths and hence will give much more accurate results, but since they cannot be launched from the recon scan probe launchers being released with the patch Tuesday, they will take MUCH longer to get results.) ------------ Ezra Cornell pe0n, Calista Industries |
