EVE has always been pretty and the latest turrets and nebulae will only add more to that. So, I decided that maybe I should make a list of all the graphical effects in-game that are eye-sores / don't fit the game and anyone can comment with any other effects they'd rather see gone. When I list a graphic Effect, I'll try and link the effect and a possible improvement.
The List:
The Obvious and long petitioned one: Bring back a revamped version of the old cyno effect:
Current Effect: http://www.youtube.com/w...h?v=zDVEHE10nHc#t=2m48s
Improvement: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_0p0CYTU6IU#t=35s
No shield / armor collisions or graphical damage.
Current Effects: There are no effects, the guns fire into the centre of the ship constantly. Projectiles don't spray or randomise across the hul, there's no graphic collision with ship's shields or armor and the only graphical damage is a trail of fire when reaching low structure.
Improvement: http://www.youtube.com/w...h?v=BhZQEvg1V0Y#t=2m10s A tech demo of a game that was cancelled due to lack of funding.
I'm not saying we should have drone battles or anything as spectacular as Nexus since this is an MMO, not an RTS. But the fact is the client in this game detects when ship has shields, has lost shields, randomises bullet arcs, misses when it misses, explodes on the hull when it contacts, causes fires and such across the hull when damaging the hull, ect.
I'd like to see an EVE where my bullets will randomise at locations on the ship, contact with the shield and armor, display structural damage by causing fires and explosions when damaging it, ect.
Web Effects: (*)
Current Effect: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NkgAplqXxC4#t=2m8s
Improvement: Truth is, I don't have any ideas on how to improve webifier graphics, I just don't like it because it's a bubble of graphics that appears out of nowhere with no clear indication as to how it's slowing down the ship. It would make sense if you replaced them with modules which interfered with the combustion processes / reactor processes of the engines so that the output of an engine is severely reduced? I'd prefer to hear someone else's ideas on improving the web graphics.
Warp Disruptor, Tractor Beam & Salvager Module representation:
Current Effects: I won't bother linking these effects as they don't illustrate why I don't like them.
Improvement: The problem with these effects is the same problem with missiles, it's an effect (that's actually good) coming out of the centre of your ship. It would be an improvement if these were changed to modules visible on the ship.
For example, you have the pos module warp disruptor battery: http://games.chruker.dk/...phics/ids/2048/2615.jpg
It would be good if we saw a mini-model of this on the ship emitting the blue / graviton beam effect onto the enemy ship.
As for salvagers and tracking beams, I'd like to see a similar module with the same effects.
Sensor Booster, Tracking Computer, ECCM Effects, Tracking Disruptors, Sensor dampeners, remote modules, etc: (*)
Current Effects: http://www.youtube.com/w...h?v=aKSxSyHjUqs#t=0m15s
I'll only link this video since all the effects are similar excluding the remote modules.
Improvements: The best improvement for this would be if they made sensor boosters, ECCM, ect appear on your ship like hardpoints in the form of anntennas, radar dishes and domes. Activating the module should 'cause the dish or dome to spin, the antenna lights to turn on or to glow.
As for tracking computers, it doesn't make sense for them to have a graphic effect external of the ship. Maybe they could make the guns glow, but I don't really see the need for a graphical effect for these.
As for tracking disruptors, ECM, sesnor dampeners, etc. It would make sense to me to have a dish face / aim at the target when activated but produce no effect such as rings coming from it. (ECM Have lived without an effect long enough, so does it really need a huge effect to show that it's working? The green glow of your UI would be enough... in my opinion).
Triage Effect: (*)
Current Effect: http://www.youtube.com/w...h?v=e43qycXfxxc#t=1m57s
Improvement: Instead of having arcs of energy around the ship, I'd prefer a more realistic effect such as armor plates being moved into place, lights going out as power is diverted to repair system, bridges retracting into the hull and armor plates moving into place to protect the engines (explanation of 0ms speed?)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UUF1oMGw9Mc#t=1m A clip from star wars showing plates to stop engines, but they demonstrate one of my ideas of what a triage carrier should do.

Camera & Ship Orientation:
Current Effect: I would need to make a video to demonstrate it. Ships upright no matter what.
Improvement: Currenlt ships level out, which is done by the client. I'd prefer if ship orientation didn't matter to the client and thus made the game more immersive with ships being able to appear upside down and such after making a turn.
I can udnerstand why orientation would need to be fixed for starbases and such, but I don't see a need for it on ships.
As for camera orientation, it would be great if we could have our camera rotate / the view was eliptical isntead of spherical to change the angle such as in the game Nexus. It would make the game more interesting as everything's position in the game would then by a matter of perspective. I.E there is no on "top" or "bottom" of the gate.
Missile Launcher Effects:
This one speaks for itself, no hardpoints on the ship, they come out of the centre, ect. CCP are already considering revamping them alongside the turret improvements so I doubt much needs said about this.
Doomsday Effects(?):
There's no need to link the effects as the current effects are great. My only problem is that it's a beam of energy, light or whatever coming out of the centre of the ship. My favourite effect is the ragnarok for the fact it fires missiles.
I would just like to see some kind of cannon or array on a titan that helps illustrate it's omni-directional firing arc.
Conclusion:
(*):
You may have noticed the asteriks, they are put in place so I can emphasise one of my points / opinions on EVE's graphics. The effects marked are what I'd call 'wow-style graphics'. Which sounds more insulting than I mean for. What I mean by this is WoW likes to put a visual display on for every action and it looks awful and unrealistic, in my opinion. But that suits WoW players as they like the comic like graphics.
It'd be great if CCP avoided effects that merely represent an action instead of being a realistic representation of what the ship is doing.
So, that's the end of my graphics whine. A lot of this might seem pedantic, but I think the graphics are one of EVE's main features and it'd be amazing to see how EVE would look from graphical improvements. Thanks for reading this far.
