Like you said yourself, it is your drone control range.

No he's referring to the "activation proximity" attribute of drones, which is usually a few km. It's smaller than their optimal range. I've no idea what it means.

The range inside of which they are allowed to be thick and shoot any targets, specified or not within that area?

Edited by: hagaggggg on 04/12/2006 19:54:46 Hmm good question, I did notice post Kali drones even more buggy then they used to be. Gotta tell em to attack a target multiple times or they will just switch targets when arriving at the one you told em to attack.
Drones returning to ship also got much worse, they keep gettign hung up on eachother.
Woops, wrong toon. Dont lose any sleep over it k.

Actually recently the drone mother has been doing lots and lots of drugs, so the current batch of drones have been born all completely retarded.

Edited by: Taaser on 08/12/2006 04:27:27 It relates to the distance between the target and the drone, not the target and the user, or the drone and the user, it has nothing to do with your drone control range. So if a target is sitting outside your drone's activation proximity it wonĘt attack it by itself. The AP is the max distance, no matter what you do.

Owkay:
bookmark this thread so you can post it when need for other threads, cos I don't see every drone thread.
First a bit about aggro:
If you're drones are outside, they will aggro ships that start to aggro you. This is stopped by giving them the return and orbit command. After that command they do not tend to aggro anymore.. ever.. unless you let them attack. After you let them attack they will randomly start picking off all aggroed targets, on you the controller and themselves.
Important point you should notice: I did not mention range at all here. Drones will go after anything, you just can't control them outside your control range.
This means you can use drones to attack outside your control range you just have to make sure that target has aggro on you and you don't give your drones orders that cancels their default orders.
The drone Activation Range is just the range at which the drone will stop the 'approach target asap' function and start the 'murder death kill shooting target' function and vice versa. Interceptors take note, light t2 drones fly like 4.5 km/s (attack speed, not mwd speed, just do the max velocity * 5 to know a drone's mwd speed) with an activation range of 1 km.. do the math . The resaon sentry drones have 250 km is cos they don't move and will just shoot any aggroed target up to 250 km. Unless you cancel the default drone functions.
Ergo: activation range = the max distance between drone and target to have the drone shooting the target control range = the max distance between drone and you the controller to have you drones listen to your orders. You cannot have your drones attack a target outside your control range. Drone do attack by default outside your control range, you just can't control them in the way they do it. aggro range = the aggro range of your enemy. Drones sense that aggro the same way your ship notices it and by default will try and take it out for you.
Hope that explains everything.
PS: drones are still borked in attacking other targets than the one you send them too.. My experience is it has to do with the range they have to fly, 40 km is a lot between target and they tend to forget the order and just attack anything aggroed.. quick fix is just be bosy and keep ordering them on the same target..
- All the stuff above does not necessarily reflect my corp, my alliance or even me - Pure drone user... give us a mini carrier and faction Typhoon and Dominix please |

Activation proximity is the attribute non-player controlled entities, such as drones and pirates, use to determine when they start shooting and stop MWDing.
If target is within AP, the NPC starts shooting, otherwise it tries to move towards it's target in a dumb line. - EVE is sick. |

Edited by: Christopher Dalran on 09/12/2006 16:48:25 Here is what i noticed from drones
If you have your drones out in space and someone starts to shoot or activate a module on you they attack.
If someone starts attacking you and you drop your drones they just start to orbit and do nothing, this will continue untill the atacker activates another hostile module one you (ex. he reloads and reactivates a gun) at which point the drones will attack them.
They updated drone AI after Revelations, this has fixed the problem with drones just randomly choosing their targets on their own even if given specific orders to attack a certain one but i have not had a chance to see how this affected drones auto-targeting hostile ships if they dont have a specific order. Hopefully they will auto attack any hostile ships at any point if they dont have specific orders.
I think there should be options to set drone behaviors.

True ... it seems like: long distance - target lost.
