Here's the story:
I was sitting on a gate last night facing down an outlawed dominix in my arbitrator. I had an allied astarte on it's way and we were going to take it down together. When my friend was about to jump in, i launched my t2 light drones and got ready to attack his heavy drones that he had deployed. As soon as they cleared my drone bay, the domi attacked and destroyed my ship.
I was sitting on the gate, ready to jump through if he did attack me. I knew arbitrator vs nos domi wouldn't be so much a fight as it would be a slaughter, so i was fully prepared to run if it came to that, but I couldn't jump through the gate. Why?
When I launched my drones, the dominix attacked me with everything it had. To my horror, my light drones AUTOMATICALLY targetted and attacked the dominix, resulting in myself getting an aggresion countdown, and thus making it impossible to jump through the gate.
Why did my drones attack, when I certainly did not want them to? Everyone knows a 1v1 versus a dominix in any ship is practically suicide, let alone in my puny little arbitrator.
This is bull**** at best and i'd go so far as saying he used an exploit to force my hand.
Very annoyed.

would you rather they just sit there and not defend you. alot of people whine that they don't defend when they are deployed after getting shot. They only defend you when they are deployed before you get shot.
Its not an exploit, the drones are meant to defend you.
As for exploit ... your one to talk , near a gate so you could jump the moment something went wrong...
Would have been beter if you stayed at 24km range , those heavies take a while to reach you anyway and you can warp out anywhere you want in that timespan. those light drones are fast that 24 km is not an issue.

I personally would rather have control over how and what my drones do, maybe i'm asking too much.
And how is sitting on a gate ready to jump an exploit?

Drones have always responded to agression against their owner since day 1.
If you don't wish your drones to engage something, have them parked in your drone bay. They are Combat Drones and will do their best to protect you from being destroyed. ___________________________ ~Jiekon

QFT
Even so, the drone interface DOES need an overhaul, especially since the introduction of carriers with some control over their behavious (eg: a "chase targets into warp" and an "automatically pick new targets" checkbox)

There is nothing like sitting in 0.0 with your drones out and a corp mate tests out something on you.
All you can hear on voice is 'the drones, the drones, stop the drones'.

Not always. There was a time when they sat there looking as your ship got burned to cinders, laughing at you. It had been fixed in the next patch, about 3 months later though, with a tiny patch kinda helping under some circumstances. Some pilots guessed that this was done in an attempt to fend off macro miners through the use of npc.
Yes, drones defend their controlling unit basically since they've been implemented. --*=*=*--
The cause for this is not yet known, but we do have a possible fix in testing. by Sharkbait | 2006.09.20 |

That is a feature, as Jiekon says, and is generally mildly useful. Unfortunately can't be turned off, though.
Drone UI and AI both need a massive overhaul, IMO. But thats a differnt thread, though............. -----------------------------------------------

feature or not, i still got killed and lost 15mil + worth of mods when there was no reason to be.
All i'm saying, is the drone interface needs to be fixed, and I think that point has been made by most people in this thread.

It's a shame. They do do that, but they'll also try to defend you if you get ecm'd or sensor damped. Balance I guess...

i don't care about loosing the ship, i have 6 more fitted in station. I use them because i can loose them, simple as that.
You're missing my point. I did not want to attack, but i was orced to anyway. Simple as that.

Theres a simple way round that....dont launch your drones??
If you saw the domi come along, you should have scooped your drones seeing that you could not win, and get ready to flee. You did not, and as such, your mistake/lack in judgement was your downfall. Any experienced drone user should know how to use them effectively, and you stating you have 6 more sitting in your hangar tells you either you've always been doing something wrong, or youve been training the wrong weapons ^^
Dont moan about features, when theyre fine as they are. The coding for drones as i understand it is hard enough. The last thing the Devs need is more work. They ATM are fixing lag, stability, new features, Kali 2 and 3, petitions, events, alliance tournaments. you cant expect them to do everything at once.
If you wish for drones to be changed, then go to the other section of the forums and suggest it. If you dont want to, then stop whining on the forums.

Mmm that's the spirit...all game mechanics have to be learned, some people get lucky and survive, some people learn the hard way. Mostly it's just a matter of luck. -----

Edited by: Matori Kar on 04/12/2006 00:53:01 Dont know if it still works, but if you did a 'return and orbit' order, they would never respond to aggression again.
Edit: until they are put back in bay and launched again that is.

Well, from what I can read. You just sat there, deployed your drones and they attacked the Dominix unprovoked.
For you to get the aggression countdown, you had to attack first. And for the drones to react, the Dominix would have to attack first.
Even in empire, targetting isn't counted as being aggressive. So, I wonder.. is this really a feature or a bug. More of a bug in my eyes, and we all know Eve is filled with them. Especially after a patch.
And drones were still disobedient even before patch. |
