Just a small note...
Are there actually any noobs anymore? This is why I ask the question.
1) Does anywhere still stock the game? Not really. See Ebay for a spare copy
2) Have numbers gone up? No, they have spectacularly declined. All the good old people that I have known have left because they are BORED OF WAITING FOR NOTHING!!!
3) What are noobs? New people to the game? Well that's what I thought.
My point is that I'm not sure there aren't noobs any more, meerly less advantaged players.
Shouldn't we be a bit more "Politically Correct" about this and stop deluding ourselves that there are still people joining this game?
In my opinion there are no more "noobs". People aren't joining the game anymore, and people are leaving. Shouldn't we also be worried?
Just a thought. Flame away...
PS CCP PLEASE READ POINT NUMBER 2!!!!

Newbie: A new person. Someone new to the thing in question.
N00b: An irritating, annoying fool/idiot that refuses to learn from past mistakes, accept advice from experienced people even when proven wrong, deliberately hampers the team for "fun"...etc.
OTHER than that...you're close on target . _______________________________________________________________________

Id have to say no. The game is no longer sold in most stores. I imagine after CCP ends this phase of beta they will release a new box with the full game in it so people wont have to download a entire new game from the servers to connect.
I can also see a new server coming after all this is over. After all, how many players are going to want to compete with the billionares that got their money through game mechanic weaknesses. ------------------------------------------------ Serve the State Join Channel CAINCOM |

Edited by: Robeyone on 18/11/2003 00:30:29 Our Human Resources divisions has had about 12 or 15 new players recently join in the past week or so. So there are definitly noobs getting into the game. A healthy amount of Noobs have applied to RONA we get at least 1 and sometimes up to 3 per day. Some of these may be alts but we defintly know who the newer ones are.

Some stores still stock the game. At least they do in Canada. Cheap, too. CAD$14.99
But, as CCP has mentioned they're negotiating a new distribution agreement and are planning a promotional splash for early next year. If the numbers are stagnant (which they are), it's because CCP is not currently marketing the game (their publisher, Simon & Shuster, got out of the gaming business - no help there).

A quick reply. Yes there are some of us joining the game. My friend bough it back in the summer and it couldnt catch his attention. Hes more of a fast paced guy and has no long term vision for what he wants to be. I looked for a copy in wal-mart and couldnt find one. Our local staples carries it however. Ive been on 1 week now and am really adicted. I was pretty lucky because someone was recruiting for their corp and took me on so early. I also have a friend from Denmark with about 11 days on. He and I are learning together. Dont be too troubled about the games future at this point. You sound like an expereienced gamer that has seen games you liked at one time fall by the wayside. I know ive seen my share. Hope to see you on sometimes.

I found a couple of newbies when I was advertising my corp the other week. A lot less than I expected though. Only like five of them in three different starting systems.

We have several new players in our corporation, so they're coming from somewhere even if just in small numbers.

There are newbies, definitely.
You can always tell that from market indicators.
Go to the Trade section and look at sales of level 2 frigates---Tormentors, Bursts, Bantams, Navitas, in particular. There is a history chart for these sales.
Everyone buying those is likely to be a newbie.
Buyers of Executioners and Slashers are either players doing agent missions or newbs too.
I use my own indicators. Sometimes I hunt in a frigate or low cruiser against frigates just to help me get the feel of the game like the way I enjoyed it early. Farming NPC cruisers can be boring after an extended period. Quite so often, NPC cruisers got NPC frigs along them for the ride. These yield a lot of frigate stuff too.
These are stuff that reminds me of my newb days---small weapons, civilian and small shields, crystals, ammo, miner 1s, you know the stuff.
Instead of recycling, I decided to collect them in a stash and put them in the newbie system where the newbies originate.
Remarkably, these items are sold. I can sell every Miner 1 I can get my hands on, sometimes selling them within the same hour as I put the sales order. Nobody buys a miner 1 except a noob.
I don't need the low mineral value of small frigate stuff. Help the noobs, sell stuff cheap to them to give them a leg up.
I sell a lot of stuff worth a lot more than Miner 1s. But when I see these small sales of noobie stuff, I feel heartened and as delighted as my big ticket sales. Regardless of all the disheartening signs I've seen around, I still see a heartbeat and a glimmer of hope.

Edited by: Drethen Nerevitas on 18/11/2003 04:33:07 I would disagree Slithereen. A Miner I is an extremely cheap and effective mining beam. Level 4 mining=3 bist/minute. And for lesser ores as well. The fact that it costs sod all to replace is a bonus . 20 less than the average Miner II (even with skills). And atm far, far cheaper. (Yes, I'm a stingy git, what's your point?) _______________________________________________________________________
