I'm FINE with the game, before you think of flaming me.
Basically, I see lots of whiners, moaners and grumps. But not nearly as many people seem to be quitting as threatening to or complaining at all.
This made me think.... Do these people CHOOSE to stay with EVE cuz it ain't so bad, or is it that there is no other game that delivers enough of the same kinda things as EVE that they could move to?
Your thoughts please. --------- NEED A SIG PLEASE. |

For me it's that no other games can offer the "adult" community, the sense of planning and strategy, the amount of loss when you lose, the fun, and the devs that care. The game is MASSIVE, it has a political structure that you can only begin to understand if you've played or backtracked from day 1. Some people care about newbies, some people don't. Some people mine, some people fight. And they often clash.
Not that I've looked for a new game, just about every game I've considered playing has either been gunned down with "Devs don't care, just a bunch of farming" (Which I looked farther into and decided wasn't worth my money), or is in development and won't be released until about 2009. OR the game was released, I tried it, and then realised how crap it was. (See: PSU running on glory of PSO, ending up being just a WoW with fancy lights) -----

Both.
However I can't begin to tell you how many times I've wanted to say "LEAVE ALREADY" to a few of the more loud mouth persistant leavers. Saddest thing is that one of the biggest ones, long ago, was someone I liked. Strange how the whining spreads to infect even the most worthwhile of people.
Check the sig.
The Eve-Online forums may not have invented whining, but they sure have perfected it.

For me it's b/c no other game out there offers what Eve does. i.e. Sci-Fi, mature (mostly) community, and no level grind.

I think more ppl are reading THIS and getting on with life.
(If there was ever a single off-site link that deserved sticky it's this link)
We ALL fit somewhere on that list by the way. lol
Hell, I make up most of the list tbh.
I left eve only to come crawling back begging for forgiveness... And she welcomed me back with open arms.
Thank you Eve.... Thank you... [/sniffle]

"whining gets you stuff, thats why humans are on the top of the food chain and all the other animals got nerfed"

As someone who does customer suport for another MMO, I can tell you that the number of people who say they'll quit comes nowhere close to the number who do quit. Some other developers say it approaches an order of magnitude; only 10% actually leave. The number of people who leave the game is called "churn," and Eve's is low because there's no "end" to the game. People can keep hoping they'll get better and better, that circumstances will change, so since hope springs eternal they stay involved. _______________________________________________

That doesn't apply to Eve. That guy only talks about Elves, and bard, and pixies. None of that in Eve.

I think it's a little bit of both. It's harder to make a game of this ilk than people think. Main example being all of the bad attempts, of which there are plenty. EVE was the first to do it right and succeed. They've been around while a few other games tried and come up short, but there really hasn't been much competition from what I've seen. There are a couple games in development right now that seem to have a good graphics engine and intentions, but it has yet to be seen if they can put it into application. It takes a bunch of man hours to do this sort of thing right and most start-ups just don't have it.
I've been hardcore into EVE at times and had times where it made me sick, like going to work, to play. It's never really crossed my mind to give it up altogether. I'd just set long skill training and go inactive for a while. I've just come back after quite a few months off, because of one thing that EVE does right, you can always count on the game being better than it was when you left. CCP is always looking to improve and add dimension to the game. Now they're talking of down the line having "in station" content and just reinsures that EVE is a good choice. They see a weakness that another game could have as a feature and decide to move towards it. If they could integrate some kind of FPS style content for corps to duel it out on land as well as sky, that would be, like, the king of games right there (a man can dream). That may well not happen at all, as far as I know, but I figure they'll do something to make it better. After dealing with other companies that, to put it in buisness terms, suck. **cough Turbine cough** It's good just to stick with CCP and see what they'll come up with. They definitly are the best game company when it comes to public relations and they have a good game community because of that.
