I'm sitting here being attacked by Sansha's, my missiles won't fire. Keep getting the message that it's trying. This is almost to much to bear. New equipment and lag gets worse on each release. Been playing since 2004. How much patience are we supposed to have? Star Trek hurry up pls.

I'm gonna hate to disappoint you but STO will be distributed by SOE, and if their record with other franchise games like MxO and SWG are any indication, I don't believe STO will in any way be complete at release, nor will they pump the money into it necessary to make it a good game. They'll count on Star Trek to sell it just like they count on Star Wars to sell SWG, and the product will be sub par at best.
(Keep in mind SOE was the distributor of EQ before they bought it which is how they got SWG)

lol looks like CCP will remain the dominant space mmo if SOE distributes STO, I'm watching that game closely with hope but I like many others have zero faith in SOE... they wouldn't know a decent game if it slapped them in the face.

"leave jita" is not an acceptable response to the lag problems.
The game needs to run smoothly everywhere, and the fact that it does not sucks. Having a CCP can do not wrong attitude is foolish, and while I understand that making the game run smoothly is very difficult and am willing to accept the shortcoming of this game, they are still shortcomings.
And "leave Jita noob" will not get anything fixed.

They all do but that doesn't mean its acceptable or we shouldn't complain about it. CCP is the best company to make an MMO i've ever seen and i've looked far and wide. I don't think we should be whinging at them all day long but we shouldn't let them think we're ok with it because no other game can do better. CCP should fix the problem and be the first to do it, i know they've got what it takes.
System limits and ques are stopping the server from crashing but they're also stopping the game from being played. I know its a lengthy process but something needs to be done to redistribute the players in high sec by making them want to not by forcing them to.

Star Trek On Line is not a Sony game as far as I know. This is what I know about the Developers.
Perpetual Entertainment is an innovative, San Francisco-based developer, publisher, and operator of networked multiplayer and massively multiplayer online games for the PC and next-generation videogame consoles. Founded and staffed by industry veterans dedicated to the vision that playing games together is simply more fun, more challenging, and more rewarding than playing alone, Perpetual Entertainment's mission is to craft gaming experiences that immerse players in other worlds like no game has before.
Perpetual Entertainment is realizing this vision with its two AAA titles, Gods & Heroes: Rome Rising and Star Trek Online. Both games utilize the Perpetual Entertainment Platform, our other core product and the answer to the traditional struggles of developing a massively multiplayer online game. PEP allows developers of MMOs to focus on their game's potential rather than its technology. PEP is the complete solution for developing, hosting, monitoring, and operating networked online games on all platforms: PCs, consoles, cell phones, and handheld devices. In combination with PEP, Perpetual is also developing the Perpetual Game Engine, a suite of reusable game tools and libraries that enable rapid AAA-quality development of MMOs and other networked games.
Our pioneering games and ground-breaking platform solutions are quickly making Perpetual Entertainment one of the major innovators in the video gaming industry.

Lag often comes from technical limits. Some optimizations might reduce some lag.
Moving into less populated areas will nearly completely remove the lag for you. It did for me.
Star Trek Online does look as interesting as Sims in space atm. --*=*=*--
The cause for this is not yet known, but we do have a possible fix in testing. by Sharkbait | 2006.09.20 |

First off, if you are waiting for a new game, then check out Pirates of the Burning Sea. I've been waiting for it to come out for over a year now. If they manage to keep the lag under control and have the player driven market that EVE has, then I'm going to be splitting my MMO time.
Second:
Quote: name a mmo that didnt have lag in player dense areas
Planetside... which coincidentally was an SOE game. It is entirely too easy to progress through the levels in this game, but is otherwise almost completely bug/ctd/lag free.
Last point: EVE will always retain a certain amount of lag. Especially in the crowded market centers. EVE is simply the largest online universe in MMO's today, and unless they start sharding, then the lag will remain. Since most people play EVE because it has no sharding, then I doubt this will happen any time soon.
My personal opinion is that EVE should be sharded into three major time zones, but I know it will never happen so I won't ask.

Gods and Heroes is being distributed by SOE as well under a pseudonymn. STO will as well. SOE will then if the games take off offer to buy Perpetual out as they did with Verdant when they got EQ and SWG.
The last part of your post makes it sound as though you are an employee of Perpetual or just copy/pasting their stuff.
EVE due to its size will always have some lag components, the only way to avoid this would be to have the ability to send a signal from the server to your computer every second and have your response go from your computer to the server in the same second and be processed by the server. Currently our technology is not that advanced :).
