What is the minimum spec you need to run eve on a laptop. I'm not expecting 0 lag in 500 man fleet fights. But just decent stability all round. Idealy it would have long batter life and be quite light.

The dell latitude line is quite nice for weight.
They also can all run eve (skill changing etc.) and they have a long battery life. THEY ARE CHEAP TOO!

I have to travel a lot because of my job. So I wanted a small, powerful laptop with good battery life. The Dell XPS M1210 fits that bill: It's small, has 4-5.5hrs of battery life, and plays EVE without a problem on high settings. If you can live with a 12.9inch screen it's the perfect choice imo...
I'd never get a desktop replacement (again), I'm not a mule... ________________________________________________

I bought a VAIO Fe21 and I love it. I did hear good things about the Dell Gaming machines but I'm not that rich.
The VAIO is excellent and Sharkbait has one as well but from a different series and you can easily run 2 or 3 clients on them. The screens are excellent and the only downside is that they have loads of software on them you never use (so thats 15 min of removing useless stuff).

I'd pretty much echo all of that, i've got a PGC something VAIO thats a couple of years old now (64mb gfx) but it handles EVE pretty well but could really do with a format and non-sony enhanced xp install instead.
The screens are amazing on them, forced me to get a 20" widescreen for my new pc, just cant go back to a normal ratio now.

I'm a thinkpad man myself. I've been running eve on a t42 since last december with no significant hitches. I hear this has been replaced by the t60 in terms of the latest and greatest, this is what some of my corp mates use and frankly its a beast of a machine.
On mine, with a year old battery, the life is about 3 hours with the wireless on, and 4.5 with it off. The performance is quite good as well, it pulls down a solid 50 in DOD:S, and generally does better in EVE, though the older card can have problems with gas clouds. And by have problems I mean FPS less than ten.:(

Fellow FE21 user here, as I said in another post I can run 2 clients with ease. I love it, when I can wrestle it from my woman!

Ive got a Dell laptop, not an XPS one though, and it handles eve easily, even 2 clients.
The two most important features for me on it are the full size keyboard and 17" widescreen.
Eve in widescreen > all. trust me.
The big screen is not too good for batterly life though :)

Dell laptops are a good deal, but I haven't had good luck with them. They've been pretty unreliable in my experience.
Also, I don't believe they offer anything with really high battery life, like a 12-cell battery option. Some other manufacturers do.

You are right about a good deal, i actually watched the dell website for about 2 months till they had a special on the type of setup i wanted (adding extras is expensive at dell) which happened to also come with a free secondary battery (12 cell). Also mine has been totally reliable (no, my battery didnt explode :))
Check the website regularly, they always have specials that usually get rotated once a week at the least, and when i went to buy it i googled and found a $400 coupon too. All in all i got a package that was usually $3600 for $2040 (aussie dollars) so it is definately worth it to wait for a special on the particular specs you want.

Dell xps here I have a m170 from around 15 months ago, it still runs every high spec game reasonably well, and has a very impressive screen and res. Eve is a dream, with 3 clinets running I am still one of the first to 'load' so to speak.
The new version is the dell xps m1710 which is considerably cheaper and about 2 gens later, I guess their core2duo variant is now available as well. Their gaming laptops are not remotely light, and apauling on battery life in heavy use mode. Its probably more to be seen as adesktop replacement than a truely portable device.
