i was only looking at the 2 pages and both seem very simular but if i was having a website i would expect it to be unique and not a template off a free site

Just a few observations, I am also a professional web designer, but tbh mixing work and play isn't my thing....
I thought offering out-of-game services was forbidden? Or is this being related to Eve (as an alliance/corp website) allowed?
Templates are a nice spiffeh way of design, but a designer using it as an example is fairly poor. Nearly anyone can download one from a site and repurpose it.
Yes, the two designs look strikingly similar. I suspect from same template.
The site isn't even accessible. No images have an alternate text description.
No proper web designer really needs to tout for trade here. I see you're in a corp/alliance, why not approach them directly?
At the end of the day, everyone is either a web designer, or knows someone who is one. I am only suggesting you look elsewhere for the work.

tables are bad mmmmkayyyy
if ur serious about web design, u should look at coding CSS directly instead of using dreamweavers built in CSS thingie, (it just adds in unneccessary code)

Theres been a spate of these "I can build your corp a website" posts recently, and I totally agree with what FireFoxx80 said with regard webdesigners who need to tout for business, and everyone having a mate who can do it. And tbh, if you think loads of eve sites are going to expand your portfolio, I'd suggest you need to look for something a bit more professional.
At the end of the day any monkey with half a clue can knock together something from a template, the true finesse is integrating various components into a coherent design. I wish I had to time to streamline the stuff I use for my corp into a generic package for Eve folks to use - theres not a lot of Eve specific stuff going, and having jury-rigged things together, it would be nice to get them to a stage where I can share them (but I have paid work to do, so will never get round to it...).
To the OP - you might want to... y'know.... make sure your links are even valid before you start pimping your mad skills. And also try validating.... well any of it tbh. HTML errors, CSS errors and not accessible - it doesn't reflect very well when you are pushing such a poorly constructed site as an example of what you can make....

I was offering comments on your post mate. If I had said "OMFG noob, don't buy from this bloke he's a cowboy - woop woop buy from me insetad". Then perhaps I might have been trolling. If you cannot take criticism then perhaps you are in the wrong industry.
Seriously though if you need designs for a portfolio, the first thing most major employers are going to do is look at template sites. Or even recognise your design from one of them. The second is that they are going to run it through a HTML/CSS/Accessibility checker.
Sitting there for hours coding PHP/HTML unfortunately is part of the job for Web Designers as a whole. Though it is a bit of an umbrella for people who do Graphic Design, Web Development, Systems Programming, Database Administration, and the like. It being easy isn't always good.
Sorry if I implied you were asking for ISK/RMT for out of game work.
Proof is in the pudding

Now listen, I did get burnt in the past for flaming someone without being constructive... so I am going to be constructive here.
Durvaul, I am not sure how far into the whole web design career you are. And I honestly don't want to partonise you. But really you are setting yourself up for a fall here, both from inviting critics, and from having 10 Eve related sites to make up your portfolio. Remember that not all employers will be Eve Online fans, they may see you as a one trick pony; and also that a lot of people playing Eve are also web designers.
As I mentioned in my above post. You really need to focus on a few niches of web design. Else you wil fall into the trap I fell into of being a Jack of all Trades (master of none). Very few people can be competent: Web Designers (both graphic design and typigraphic design) Web Developers (PHP, ASP, JSP, CGI, .NET, Ruby, etc) Database Administrators (MS SQL, mySQL, Oracle, Sybase, etc) All at once. I myself have fairly low design skills when compared to my development and database ones. But then again, companies do not expect to employ someone who can do all three perfectly. I understand enough of the design side to ask people to achieve the result I want, or to explain to designers why they need to do x rather than y.
However, as above. Most competent employers will run your portfolio sites through a HTML/CSS validator and an accessibility checker. People don't expect AAA/Priority 3 accessibility, but they do see not doing the basic stuff as being sloppy. The same goes for saying the site is XHTML transitional, and then it being far from it. It just sets you up for a fall, as has happened in this case.
If you're still looking to expand your portfolio. I would suggest you expanded your retinue outside of Eve (sorry, I didn't realised your original site was for Corp). I know finding clients is hard. But if you know anyone else who does it professionally, they may be willing to subcontract. Family businesses are also a valid (cheesy I know, but it works). And also simply having 2-3 of your own domains helps wonders. I have 1 freelance site I barely use these days, and one personal one that I stick any old tat on. As an employer I would rather see a portfolio of 3 varied sites, than 10 that all looked similar (similar function). Noone got criticised for sticking concept sites in a portfolio (eg a few pages of some made up site).
Finally. There are always professional qualifications. The University of Essex for example offers a wonderful course in Internet Engineering (which I studied). There's always the opportunity there for valuable research and work experience.
CSS. Yes it is useful and spiffeh. But it does take a lot of effort to make it cross compatible, especially when compared to tables. But the end result of CSS is vastly more flexible on different setups (print-only CSS, or small screens for example). Even if you made a small concept site using CSS, it would prove that you could use it.
I think that's it. As I say, please do not think I am patronising you or teaching you to suck eggs. This might even be of use to any other budding web designer.

Shows that you didn't even read the posts. Both sites used a template from a free 3rd party.

Yeah, it's great someone is offering this but calling yourself a webdesigner when you use templates made by other people is kinda wrong

I have been in the past stung by someone that I had shown trust towards only to have them stab me in the back.

Edited by: Max Kentarii on 25/01/2007 10:40:18 If you're serious about webdesign, you should learn yourself css, photoshop, illustrator++ and how to write valid markup. And stop using other people's graphics where they don't belong... it's bad, mkay :P (Your topmenu gfx needs some editing in case you didn't notice the background color not matching)
Here are a few resources to get you started: http://www.w3schools.com/ http://www.w3.org/ http://validator.w3.org/ http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/
Don't let people put you down.. just keep working on it and try to improve.
Ps. does this really belong in the sell forums? I don't see you asking anything in return.. so I guess that's why people expect the worst thinking you want money or iskies.. -----
