Can someone explain the purpose of this skill to me? I don't understand why you'd want to get a higher attack range on your drones, aren't they just great to have them orbit around an enemy at such a low range that the enemy won't be able to hit them? It's not like the drones can fit a different ammo type to compensate for this. I know they can start attacking a little earlier but since they are so fast anyway, that doesn't really mean much as far as I can tell. Or am I missing something here?

AS an example, sentry drones. Warden has 50 km optimal, 75 with maxed skill. This makes a difference (if you fit drone links, ofc)

So it's only good if you plan to use long range drones?

Mainly for Sentry drones, but you will probably get more hits also vs. fast targets and during approach with normal drones (drones don't orbit all the time, they also approach / chase targets).

Its usually for Sentry Drones anyway since you will need Drone Sharpshooting IV to be able to learn Sentry Drone Interfacing.

Wouldn't this also help them survive vs. smartbombs? Granted Large faction ones will probably always be able to reach them, but battlecruiser and cruiser class versions might not right?

All drones benefit from this for example when a Inti MWD's away from small scout drones it is harder for them to stay within their optimal, but with a greater optimal from the skill it's a little easier for them to keep the target in range. I know it isn't as obvious as it is with the sentry drones but it does still work.

also as a side note if a dron'e nav is higher then the sharshooting then the hit% takes a dive as it moves too fast for tracking then ever before.

I've read 1/2 dozen threads that claim that was fixed, rebroke, refixed, etc. So, any claim that that issue exists or not should be taken with a grain of salt. Pralay |

How important is the Drone Sharpshooting skill? Should I get it to V before I get t2 heavy drones?
Are there any must have skills I should get before I start training Heavy Drone Operation V? I have most of the drone support skills to IV or V. I want to make sure I didn't miss anything obvious or if revelations suddenly changed something I missed.

Get Drone Sharpshooting to 4 and leave it alone. It isn't worth getting to 5.
It is worth getting to 4 though, because despite their problems Sentry drones still allow the Myrm, Domi and Ishtar to do some really Silly TricksÖ. --- What good are actions if there's no one to tell the tale afterward?...
Former player of Andre Ricard (sold). Currently plays a Sekrit CharacterÖ. |
