Per the subject line, why is a T1 Hypnos version better (lower fitting and cap) than the T2 version, even with the exact same attributes.....?

Like virtually any other mod in the game?
The only real benefit of T2 guns is T2 ammo and the 2% dmg bonus from spec skills.
Well, with the current ECM situation a specialization skill would be most welocome for scor/rook/bb/falcon pilots.

Uh... Because most mods work like that?

No kidding, I tried to Salvage one last night. Took me 20 cycles before the pilot convoed me and told me to stop it.

This is untrue.
There are some T1 modules better than their T2 equivalents. Adaptive Nano Plating II for example, is not better than the best named, or even second best named T1 module. (Note, this isn't the Energized Adaptive Nano, but the generic plating module)
However, for T2 guns.... the 2% dmg bonus, as you describe it, is misleading at best. T2 guns were far better than best Named T1 guns well before T2 Ammo was released. Most people bang up the Specialization skills to at least lvl 4 before they start training something else. So, it's not a mere 2% bonus to damage modifier, but 8% bonus. And, if you have Surgical Strike lvl 5, then add the 3% per level, and now you have 5% damage bonus per level just on T2. So with max skills, a T2 gun will have 10% higher damage modifier than best named T1. Since damage seems to be multiplied, then that 10% difference is exponential rather than linear. (Remember, the percentages apply to the damage modifier on your guns. Not the value you see when you hit a target. There's sufficient difference between a 7.5x damage modifier and a 8 or 8.2 damage modifier)
T2 guns are worth training up. Plain and simple. T2 Drones are the same way, there is a big difference in damage from Ogre Is and Ogre IIs. Well, maybe the numbers might not seem so, with 2% damage bonus for the Spec skills... but when they are on you, yeah, the difference is noticable at the least.

i dont see any problem with that. there are some tIi mods worse than tI but on teh other hand they are usualy way more cheap (but higher fitting req). so somehow that evens out:)
