I'm just curious, but do people find (as miners in a non-NPC corp) that miners and mining tend to be treated as the least important things in a corp?
By this, I mean allocation of resources for the activity, getting adequate defensive coverage, disposition of the resources mined, allowing a miner to earn a decent inciome while serving the corp - do these tend to get taken over/away and outshone by the blood and glory types?
What has *your* experience been?

Unless it's a mining corp, sure. TBH, it's not an "in corp" thing, but an Eve thing. Everyone tends to look down on miners. I don't know why, it maybe because they are distinct from the PvP population and so can be ostracized, or because people feel they deserve no respect because you pay them ISK.
For whatever reason, I answer in the affirmative and hope you find a good mining corp soon

Well, my experiences have been mixed:
First one I was lucky, the corp was a mining one, that love to PvP to defend alliance space, but where miners at heart. So they respected the profesion. Even the ones that weren't mining anymore.
After that, I found that the miners are mostly 2nd class citizens. Corps don't want them. Corps do love to PvP on ships constructed with the miner's minerals. But still, treat them as if they were not really part of the corp and rather a tenant, paying for mining rights.
So, I started my own corp. We have all kinds of players, we treat each other with respect and equality. We are having fun and enyoing the game.
I did had some trouble when looking for an alliance. Most alliances don't want corps with miners on them. But I won't go into that, they have their reasons.

Edited by: Shayla Sh''inlux on 05/12/2006 10:43:07 It's mostly because about 70% of the PvPers have an industrial alt with maxed mining skills. Someone who is just a miner is of no real use for a corp unless it's a hisec tech 1 production corp or a starting corp.
Anything beyond that and they're better off recruiting a guy with guns that can supply himself with isk and/or can help out in big corp operations with his alt.
When I was in my old corp, we used to have corp-wide mining operations every half year or so. What you'd see was 10 alts of the corp's core PvPers in Covetors stripping a few systems in 0.0 while the guys without an alt would haul or tank rats.
That is, IMO, the major reason why pure miners are looked down upon.

Warrior castes looking down on "parasitic" resource producers is a phenomenon as old as division of labour itself.

LMAO, that has to be the quote of the day.
Look at it this way, most miners mine to make isk, to line thier own pockets on the whole, most non-NPC corps buy the ore/minerals from the miners to use for corp purposes, cheaper ships/mods and the like. Most PvPers lose a lot of isk by getting blown up, therefore paying out isk rarther than sitting bored out of thier skulls making isk.
Miners reward is being rich, pvp reward is the glory.

I run an industrial/trade corporation. People in my corp do not look down upon each other (miners, pvpers, ...). I don't tolerate stuff like that, since everyone, no matter their chosen path serves a purpose in this game and in the corp. Being disrespectful in my corp is the quickest way of finding the exit. This is a game and should be mostly enjoyable for all who play it. Who are they to say what some one else should enjoy?
The only people I look down upon are the griefers, since they only aim to remove the enjoyment from others.

BTW: I absolutely hate mining! So I value a good corp miner above all, since then I wont have to mine as much.
A good, full miner is very valuable to a large number of corps. Find yourself a good industrial corp and youÆll feel right at home.

I don't think people look down on miners in general, but look down on people who mine when there is a crisis that needs their attention or who don't pay attention and hand the enemy easy kills and valuable loot.
Everyone has a way to earn some cash, and as we know even MC who claim to be professional killers also mine. If the recent mineral spike (should it continue) has taught us anything, its that EvE does not have enough miners. I remember when I started it was the only real way for a newb to make money. Today newb's have so many options like agent missions, courier missions...etc...All of which are frowned on by PvP'ers. In their eyes these are things a character should out grow.

it depends on the corp
PKKP is a split, miners/pvp'ers, but most of us have an alt acct for the other activity(Franny is combat, my alt is mining/industry) and some of us are cross trained a little(fear franny's medium barge of doom) the miners mock the pvp'ers, the pvp'ers mock the miners but we do it all in fun, we did a corp mining op and half the pvp pilots showed up with miner 2s on BS's before half the miners showed up in their barges
and both groups mock me, cause i'm a combat pilot, with tons of time in Syndicate, and I can't go pvp due to rl time contraints(my 2mth old won't let me focus on the pc that long)
