Hello!
I was wondering, would the "Drone Navigation" skill (Increases drone velocity) decrease the accuracy of my drones? I do not know whether the increased speed would also apply to their orbit speed, which would create a higher transversal velocity.
Thank you for your time!
Best wishes, Mekkan Eil

As I understand it, it used to be a problem as it affected speed all the time. Then I believe they changed it so that the speed increase was only used when approaching targets and not when orbiting them. Not entirely sure but I've trained it up to lvl V and have no problems with my drones hitting things.

Train your drone sharpshooting skill just as high as the navigation and you won't have this problem.

Drone sharpshooting increases the optimal range. It won't affect tracking at all. It'll increase the standard 1k optimal range to 1.25k at lvl 5 and 1.2k at lvl 4.
But the first reply is accurate - the skill will help your drones catch up to it's target faster, but won't make it (or allow it to) orbit faster, so it won't affect it's chance to hit the target.

There is a bug with this skill and the drone navigation module.
I bug reported it ages ago but nothing ever happens to drones - exept we get less AI over and over again.
Problem is that the skill should NOT give a velocity bonus to orbit speed - but it does. ANd the drone navigation module should NOT give a velocity bonus to orbit speed either - but it does.
Bug report it again and again and hopefully we will get something fixed with our drones over time.
but CCP removed the feature to see drone speed right? Real smart, instead of fixing they remove the ability to spot theirs bugs hehe

you can see their speed in overview if you have "apply only to ships" unchecked in settings

I think this skill increase MWD spd for approach target.

It SHOULD increase orbit speed because that makes the drones harder for your target to kill, and keeps them from falling behind and having to waste time ( not shooting ) mwding to catch up.
CCP needs to get a frigging clue and learn that when you are orbiting a stationary target, your side is constantly facing the target so a turret mounted there has no need to track; your entire ship is tracking the target.

Increasing a drone's orbit speed reduces their chance to hit, and as a target gets smaller (interceptor sized) the drone simply stops hitting at all. This has been a problem for a long time. While I agree increasing drone orbital velocity makes them survive longer, it's much easier simply to scoop then redeploy.

Recommend training sharpshooting one level higher than navigation so that your drones don't orbit out of their own range. I accidentally trained both to 4 and saw my drone DPS go down ; I need to spend a week training sharpshooting up to 5 to fix it now. :( ---

Drone navigation affects only the the approach speed, not the orbit speed, of drones. Drone sharpshooting does not actually affect the distance at which drones orbit their target. It only affects their optimal range (i.e. its not much good for anything except sentry drones)

increasing orbit speed of drones would either increases or decreases hit accuracy - which one happens depends at which velocity the target is moving. If the target is standing still, your drones accuracy would get lowered. if it moves fast, orbit speed might help your drone to no loose track of the target or even enable it to fly just parralel to the target. Basic rule is: if target is moving faster than 1/3 of your drone orbit velocity, additional drone velocity would increase accuracy. Accuricy would get lost, if target moves slower than 1/3 drone orbit speed. (DonŠt ask me about formulas, I study math, but explaining it would be too difficult in a forum).

I have not tested this since rev, but as of about 1 month ago:
Increasing Drone Navigation increased the MWD speed AND the orbit speed
Increasing Drone Sharpshooting had no effect on orbit distance
If these are both still true, then what Skeltek says is accurate. As you increase drone navigation, your drones accuracy on stationary targets goes down. If the target is moving at approximatly the same speed as your drones, they will hit it very very well.
A nice way to demonstrate this is to run a mission where you get the tiny tackler frigs (Guristas Kyoukans work great for this) and first kill one by webbing it (slows it down to like 30m/s) then put heavy drones on it. As the Kyoukan's signature radius is about 1/4 the drones signature resolution, and the drone will be orbiting the target, they will have a very hard time hitting it. Then kill the webber. Your heavy drones should be flying at about 80-90% of the frigs speed, will fall a little bit behind it, fly straight at it, and tear it up in a few volleys.
