I know CCP said they would "slightly" nerf C5<>Nullsec holes, but they never said what that meant in terms of numbers.
So, just curious, how has it turned out to be in reality? Is it a significant nerf, or are people just crying?
Could someone give me an example of typical before and after nerf Null hole rates that they have observed?
The feel of it is something on the order of a 90% reduction in C5/6 Nulls though I can only attest to C5.
CCP whacked the spawn rate as well as the life times. This has had a compounding effect. Those nulls that exist now exist for 8 hours less than they used to (or 32 hours less for the C248's in C6 space).
CCP never published the extent of the spawn rate reduction or even what the frequency was previously so we could have something to compare. Its sekret.
But it used to be I'd say a 30% chance that any given C5 would have at least one null whether it was a Z142 or an incoming K162 or C248. Or at least it felt that way. Now we can roll a chain for 2 hours or more and not get a single c5/6 null. Yes there are plenty of nulls out of lower sec C3/2/1 statics. I don't have an issue there.
There was zero play testing and relatively zero notice that this was getting thrown in as a " F#$% You ". |

maybe we should have 50% fewer null sec entrances and gates in general. Have some nice orphaned null sec that you can only get into with w-space huhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhuh? so many ideas! I know lets have jump gates just de-materialize randomly! |

Andrew Jester wrote:tbh it sounds like 50% of the problem is the people.
They probably were too harsh in their nerfing, but I doubt they'll do anything regardless of how loud everyone complains.
Legit question, how often did you drop a dread right into the system your null hole let out in versus cyno-ing to a system next door to a jammed system and taking gates, or taking gates all together?
Well it depends on the conflicts location. If it is direct in the chain...just fly the dread down the chain. If we need to jump it next door sometimes it is impossible - like a recent fight in Insmother where every single system around where the conflict was....was cyno jammed and a 60 man bomber fleet was between where our dread COULD come from and us.
But HAVE I personally dropped a dread onto people via a C% WH? Yes...in fact it was a 100AU warp across that stupid static

Maybe what we need is some sort of mechanic to help us when we do find the rare null holes. Perhaps some sort of device that will help keep the connection open - a kind of stabiliser, if you will.
Actually pretty shocked no one has suggested something like that yet.

Uh, wow, not exactly in-line with the word "slight' or "small" or whatever the exact word CCP used to describe the change in spawn rate.... |

It's definitely not 90% though without figures from a mapping tool I couldn't accurately judge it, but I haven't had a hard time finding null exits, but sure there may not be one in every small chain.

Scott Ormands wrote:So, an odd occurrence to report but today one of my corp mates had a c5<>null despawn in front of him (not eol and wasn't massed) and immediately a new sig popped up that was another null but as soon as he tried to jump it collapsed again this happened a couple more times before he abandoned that system. Has anyone had a similar experience?
This happened to me as well, the hole was a newer sig, not more than an hour old per previous scan, clicked to jump and it collapsed, scanned the new sig, warped to it, and it collapsed. on the 4th sig roll, an anathema jumped through right after I scanned, and I was finally able to jump into the null. I assume this is a mechanic to keep WH'ers out, and nullbears able to do whatever they like still. |
