Shopping for deals? Trying to get lucky with a 0 ISK escrow? What's the real point to being able to see EVERY available escrow? If you know what you want, just type it in, cause honesntly, I doubt anyone just browses the escrows looking for deals.
Nothing wrong with contracts. Dont like the limit? Make your own corp to sell the excess stuff on orders.

As a seller, I would never put my contract in the Bleak Lands on the off chance someone would bother to look there.
As a buyer, I'm not going to scan all the regions for a deal. Also, I do hunt for deals and would like to have the option of using wildcards for the item types. E.g. I want all True Sansha*, Dark Blood* Energized Membranes. And I would travel to the Bleak Lands if there's a good deal there.
Result: People dump stuff in Jita.
EDIT: speeling ftw

Very very true - the contracts sytem has made Jita worse - not better.
Before in escrow you could compare prices across a few regions for that spiffy new mod - and Id happily pay a little bit more if it kept me out of Jita.
Now you can only see whats in the region youre in and its easy to not be aware of whats a decent price and overpay big time.
So to counter that people flock to the central commercial hub where they know that a far larger range of options is available and they wont get fleeced. ( Just Lagged)

It wasn't really the ability to see everything, you never could, just the most recent 1000 everything. They key however was that IF you saw it, you could buy it, no matter where it was.
Now with Contracts the process of seeing everything is needlessly painful and slow and if you do happen to find something you want, too bad you can't bid on it. By the time you get to the region it's probably gone.
That and the extra taxes, and skills, and deposits, and odd filters, and strange sorting, and totally unintutive options, and difficult to configure searching leads many to feel that even with it's down sides, the old escrow was much easier to use and overall a better system. -- Lil Miner Newbie Skills Roadmap | CCG Card Lookup |

I used to scan escrow randomly for deals all the time. I miss being able to do that. - - -

No it wasn't critical when you got right down to it. It was just somthing that made general browsing easier.
That said it would be nice to be able to combine multiple regions into a search at once (relate it to the trade skills maybe?).
Personally I'm really starting to like the current system as I get more familiar with it. While it's not so simple as escrow and still has a few bugs or could use a few additions it's a fairly effective little tool.
I have the body of a supermodel. I just can't remember where I left it.

Indeed. I miss it.
Slightly off-topic tip: browse contracts on 'Simple View'. It gives you a nice table view where you can sort the columns. Much nicer then default view (the price column is messed up tho).

Escrow was a nice way to see what differnt types of items have been in game.
Contracts is like suddenly having massive shutters over your eyes.
Escrow had many short ends and it could really use an improvement here and there. Contracts are missing nearly everything but have some of the improvements Escrow would have needed. --*=*=*--
The cause for this is not yet known, but we do have a possible fix in testing. by Sharkbait | 2006.09.20 |

I barely used escrow, but it had a nice simplicity.
Contracts have cool complex features that I like, but are missing the simple bits. ----------

One reason Escrow was better was because it was far easier to "window shop." I could scan an entire window of Escrow, about 30-40 items, in a few seconds. Due to scrolling and loading times, the same amount takes about 40 seconds on Contracts.

It now has Simple View option, which makes it look like old escrow system.

Escrow was basically global in name only, the 40 frigate BPCs being added every hour kind of drives everything off unless you're close enough to a location to narrow it down.

I think the best part about it is you can find more items available.
Before, if you searched by all regions, you would only get 1000 items. Now, more items are available to be listed. Can see what's in Jita. Can see what's in Amarr. Can see what's in Rens. Can see what's in Hek.
Every now and then, I do browse for deals. With all the posts about people hating jita, there are always people selling items for a bit less to avoid the hassle.
