How viable are they now with the changes to hybrids (PVE, PVP)? Just playing around in eft, it looks like it can dish out some pretty mean dps. |

Don't rely upon EFT numbers to give you any idea of actual DPS.
Personally I've been using 250 rails for quite some time on mine, although I haven't used it for a while. The reason being that the Astarte is terribly slow and rails give me the advantage of range. It's tends to be that getting into blaster range is a big issue with this ship.
If anything, the rail set up will still be better after the buff, because blasters still have the inherent range issue. The increase blasters had, is no where near enough to warrant using them IMOH.
But people will have their own opinion and this was mine.
CCP Zulu..... Forcing players to dock at the captain's quarters is a form of what we actually wanted to get through, which is making Incarna a seamless part of the EVE Online experience. |

Hybrids will always have their niche and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Blasters are fine. Just make sure you have support. The Astarte is a beast of a ship up close and personal.

I used to fly an Astarte and it was like bringing a lightsabre to a gun fight. Sure, if you're 50ft away you're going to get shot, but if you're 1ft away from the guy he's going to be turned inside out and blown open like a hot pocket left in the microwave too long.
Astarte is like a lion versus a baby, if the baby can crawl away it will be fine but if the lion is on top of the baby then you have baby salsa.
Astarte in small gang warfare, where you can actually get in range, where you can actually grab onto and start chewing your opponent... they're basically chunky soup.
Good c-c-c-combo:
Astarte with EWAR command link and a lachesis wing pilot with long-range scrambler and sensor damps.
Lachesis fast-locks the target, turns of its warp drive and MWD while damping it to 5km range. Blastarte waddles over and begins to chew. It doesn't even matter what the other ship has as DPS, when you're 5km away from a Blastarte you're going to lose, I don't care what you're flying. |

As for problems with the Astarte I have to say like the brutix hull it's based on: powergrid issues.
Recent hybrid and gallente ship buffs might have changed that however... |

Actually seen a few of those on SISI doing very well against several targets, cruiser/bc. Has a bonified brutix it's very nice the moment you manage to get in range wich means you're already dead. The big difference is that brutix will be like "pouf" in a few seconds, the astarte can manage to kill a few small/same size ships before it dies with class |
