Demand rising faster then supply is not the same thing as inflation. If you are short of minerals the solution is not to go whining on the forums. It is to start mining or (better yet) start putting up generous buy orders to entice more miners into your area. The mineral shortage will not last long anyway. The argument that the opportunity to salvage is causing a mineral shortage is kinda silly.

Want to stop inflation, get rid of isk faucets and create bigger isk sinks. Get rid of ship insurance(isk faucet) and reset clone prices to pre kali levels(isk sink). These won't be popular but it will stop inflation. People like isk in their wallet but don't realize that it causes inflation.

And this has exactly -what- to do with ship or mineral prices?
Anyway... I'm all for ISK mineral-farmers if CCP can't, or won't, give back the amounts of loot we used to get. Local ships are getting expensive, and there really aren't that many people who want to mine for anything, let alone mine all night long. At least I don't see them in numbers anywhere but in 1.0 and 0.9 systems.

Since you are not 12 years old, you should know that the most expensive stuff (i.e. luxury items) generally has bad ROI. I've adapted to the market situation in EVE:
- I fly no HACs while they cost > 200m (I do fly 50m Recons though) - My only expensive ship is my ISK making Machariel, which I'm *very* careful with - I don't buy the best named T1 guns for PVP because an additional 60m loss per BS for +5% RoF and +5% damage isn't worth it (yes, I'm a Gunnery noob and don't use T2 on BS :-P)
So basically I can finance my PVP with very little time investment and still use battleships when we need them.
I hate grinding, 11 months of WoW affected me ...

Come back and whine when you understand economics.
It's supply and demand you are talking about.
What has happened in the past year and a half on Eve is this.
1) Mineral supply increased due to macro miners, that's why mineral prices are so low now (and they ARE low) This settled about RMR and things haven't really changed a great deal since then... until now.
2) Demand for minerals increased as everybody wanted the latest ships. That's why mineral prices went up.
3) Prices for T2 items have steadily increased because there's more players and the same amount of maximum supply that can be produced.
What's going to happen in the future?
3) Prices for high ends may drop due to the new regions dropping them directly in alloys. They might not. This is due to an increase in supply.
4) Prices for low ends will rise as CCP kill off the macro miners. From what I've heard they've got a real hard-on for them now. This is good.
5) Prices for T2 items will continue to rise as the playerbase increases/more people are able to use them.
6) Prices for T2 items will fall, due to some BPOs being re-seeded and an increase in the supply.
7) Prices for T2 items will fall, due to invention allowing an increase in supply.
8) Prices for T2 items will fall, due to macro miners being unable to sell their ISK on eBay, thus players cannot turn their real life money into ISK, thus there is less of a demand at high prices.
---
Now there has been some inflation. This is because people are able to get money easier than they used to be able to.
There's also been deflation - the Eve Bank scam removed some 170billion from the money supply, that causes prices to fall as there is less money around.
---
As far as salvaging is concerned - don't salvage then. You aren't forced to. Ignore it.
It won't cause inflation though, because salvaging does not permit ISK to enter the game, instead it will give mission runners a choice. They can salvage and spend more time on missions, and earn more money. Or not salvage and things stay the same.
And as far as inflationary controls, CCP have it easy. There's ways for ISK to enter the game - namely missions, NPC buying on the market, and bounties.
There's ways for ISK to leave the game, POS consumables, blueprint originals, basically anything that is sold by NPCs, and station taxes, and costs.
They can play with these until the same amount of ISK enters the game as leaves it, and if they get that right, no money supply inflation will occur.

I've started mining again to get minerals for our corp as prices have been steadily going up on some (mex and noxc).
What I have immediately noticed is that there are actually roids in the belts now, something you really had to hunt for previously because people aren't mining in the numbers they used to. Get out and mine more, supply and demand is an ingame reality as much as it is in RL.

I don't believe you can speak for all of us thats for sure, and at least in game wise, communist structures are far superior models for any corp to follow, thats a fact.
The price of things will stabalize, these high mineral costs have already attracted more miners to fill in the demand.

Edited by: Trak Cranker on 15/12/2006 11:23:26 Perhaps people would understand your problem if you took a little time and presented it in a structured fashion instead of spending the middle of every sentence lashing out at this and that, like the village crazy.
As I see your complaint: You get less actual loot from missions, which in the subjective term hurts your income, as it is no longer time efficient to actually collect the loot. And in the objective term produces less minerals for market overall. Correct?
And you blame the lessening of loot drops on the introduction of salvaging (which might hold true - might not). Correct?
Assuming I am correct in the above: If the mineral prices soar as you say, due to the lack of loot - should that not balance out, like it usually does? If the connection is as tight as you say, your loot should be rising in value equivalently with the decrease in drops of same. And as such the salvaging should only present an added option.
The truth is perhaps closer to what more or less everyone else has said already. That mineral prices has soared as new products are introduced (and announced well before that) and demand is at a (temporary) high. Again, irrespective of cause, if mineral prices are high, your loot should be worth more too.
In general you seem to be angry about something (most likely isk income) - but not really sure why - and just lash out at whatever is new and different.

Inflation is pushing, hard, to make T1 BS's quite expensive. Nobody (and I'm pretty sure I do mean -NOBODY- ) really wants to spend MORE time to both tractor in, and then multiple tries salvaging, for masses of equipment to reprocess any more (there's a very good chance many of us can't as we have jobs, and we have lives). It isn't worth it; you know it, and I know it.
Quite truthfully, I see this obvious slap in the face (in as far as game mechanics, and requiring yet MORE time to do missions) as a ploy to get a lot of experienced players - players who aren't yet ready to just quit their accounts - to play LESS, yet continue their paying accounts, in the hope that CCP will fix the mess.
Is CCP, in their failure to create real fixes for the server, trying to screw over those who brought them this far?
I don't like the feel of it. I can still work in the game, and the ships I sell, in the regions I do, will reflect the current costs of the shutting down of the mineral resource.
We're not all 12 year old kids, CCP - stop making us waste MORE time to play the game.
At this point I'm thankful I have a pirating Alt, as he is all that is left in as far as a reason to log in to get something done in the game while relaxing and enjoying the game to some degree.
A big push toward higher inflation, much less of a reason to actually try to aquire minerals, a big boost for the ISK farmers to mine...
What's going on here?
What the frack are you rambling about? CCP inflation T1 BS? THIS IS A FRIGGING GAME!! And at no time does CCP control the "PLAYER RAN " market. If you want to help battle inflation...

Eh, no. Destroying ships introduces isk, building refines goods. You want more/refined goods and less isk to combat inflation.

Inflation is not the same thing as rising mineral prices. You might be confusing the two. It is easy to prove that nominal mineral prices are rising, but a lot harder to prove that real mineral prices are rising or that inflation is occurring.
At least from the miners point of view, it is now much easier to build a battleship or whatever. With mining barges and everything, you can pull ore much faster, so you get more minerals/hour, and thus more battleships/hour.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't rising mineral prices create MORE incentive to mine, because minerals are worth more? I mean, if bounties and everything else stays the same, mining looks comparatively better that it did before the price rise.
As to why this price rise is occurring, I'm not sure. The two biggest/most convincing speculations I've heard are 1) all of the fancy new ships are driving up mineral demand, because everyone wants a new one to add to their collection and 2) CCP banned a bunch of macro miners, so all of the low ends are rising in price.

Correct me when wrong:
Say noone kills ships. Noone loses isk due to no lost mods and no insurance costs. Everyone keeps getting more isk. Prices keep rising.

That is not wrong in it self - but for the insurance part. Insurance introduces more isk into the game than is lost to it. So its a bad idea to suggest destroying ships. And there is a difference between one player loosing isk and Eve loosing isk. No isk is leaving game due to mods being destroyed assuming that the mods were player sold, which should be the case in 99% of the case. So shooting the ship creates more isk than not shooting the ship. And with destroyed mods you now have more isk in game and fewer items = inflationary move.
And building ships counteracts inflation, although minutely, compared to not building them. So both your suggestions were wrong for combatting inflation.

Ooh. I hadn't realised that insurance was inflating. Good point.
Perhaps a fully insured ship payout should be an ininsured ship... (although that might cause problems for T2 market).
