With Revelations Out and about here is one of the new features down I would like to get down to a "T"
Things you need to know before salvaging.
* Train Mechanic Level 3 - Under the Mechanic Rank.
* Train Survey Level 3 - Under Electronic Rank.
* Train Science Level 4- Under Science Rank.
* Get a Destroyer or a Ship with many high slots, that's fast and has a healthy cargo-bay.
* Purchase a Survey | , Small Tractor Beam. Try to use even am-mounts 4 tractor= 4 savager.
Once you get set up with these skills as well a ship you are well on your way to start salvaging.
Every ship in the game when it dies leaves a "wreck" behind. This means that in missions, Asteroid belts, and player controlled ships when killed leave a "Wreck" behind. Most wrecks don't have components with salvage level 1.
On your first day of salvaging you should spend your time wisely.
(For example)With my knowledge I have learned that with salvage level 1 you should stick to asteroid belts. You ask why, why must "I" do asteroid belts. Remember you are just started on your way to build your first rig. In High Security 0.5-0.8 Systems you should not have any problems finding frigate wreaks "Small wrecks".
Small wrecks have the most basic items you can salvage, the easiest success rate as well. Medium wrecks come from cruiser sized ships-Battle Cruiser, I have found that to be able and fairly successfully with salvaging "Medium Wrecks" it is good to have level 2 Salvaging as medium wreaks give semi common parts or multi parts.
Large Wrecks are from Battle ship sized wreaks. These can be found in mission and in 0.0 unsecured space. The hardest components come from these and fairly basic items,(sometimes multiple).
Rumor's are that mission Rats do not have any good salvaging items, this is completely . FALSE, simply not true. Know your rat.
For example I live in Gallente space at our asteroid belts we have Serpents, if you do a mission against serpents you will get the same amount of salvageable items. Only difference is that when you do mission's you usually go up against cruisers and in asteroid belt you go up against frigates with "small wrecks" easy to salvage successfully, cruisers take higher skill as explained.
Amarr Space At asteroid Belts you have the Blood Raiders. Gallente space in Asteroid belts you have Serpents. Mimitar space you have the Angel cartel.
During missions you will face angle cartel you will get items For Speed and other Rigs. In Amarr space you get rig components for the energy department.Rigs that have to do with capacitor and capacitor battery all the items you get from them as drops in asteroid belts they have those items for rigs that you salvage.
Works in the Caldari space as well, Items obtained here have to do with the types of drops and the types of rats that spawn there.
Recap
*Serpents - Salvaged wreaks are components for Drone, Hyberd guns, and cargo. (Same as loot)
*Angle Cartel - Salvaged wreaks are components for Speed, Artillery some Armor Resistance. (Same as loot)
*Blood Raiders - Salvaged wreaks are components for energy capacitor, and capacitor recharge.(Same as loot)
Will be adding stuff in the future just thought id give you a head start, Good luck and happy salvaging.
P.S. Thanks for your support.

Your salvage skill does not effect either your chance of getting salvage nor the kind of salvage, it simply effects your chance of successfully salvaging.
Currenty the fastest way to accumulate rig bits is to run level III missions in a overpowered ship. You will want to turn down all missions that dfo not create salvage (currently this includes all navy oppoents, all mercenary opponents, mordus, and agents of the 7. Ignore turret and structure wrecks they do not generate salvage.
Until wed the distribution of rig bits will probalb continue as is, with circuit type bits being apprx 12% of all rig drops. Each rig uses two of the four circuit types as well as one uniqe type only used by that variety or rig. THis means that you need 2 circuits for every 1 unique item (its actually worse then this in reality closer to 3).

Edited by: Inspiration on 08/12/2006 19:54:40 In my view the only real reason riggs did not show up much sooner and will not for a while in quantity is all the whining on these forums about it being too hard. Because of this whining CCP kept sending out messages they are still balancing it, changing etc. Therefore no-one in their right mind (sorry), is gona invest a lot in building these things.
For all we know, the BPO's will require totaly different material distribution or maybe just less materials. CCP ain't telling us anything, so people sit on their materials or panic sell them to someone that goes to sit on it.
It's this insecurity that causes exactly what people where needlesly complaining about.....a shortage of riggs. In the first few days i managed to get as much as 900 parts, yet i stopped activly pursuing until I know I am not wasting my time due to the next patch and the next and the next one after that, all mentioning they are gona change riggs stuff.
Shame on all the whiners, i hope they never own a rigg now, the bastarts!

"whining" has nothing to do with it. Many threads were simply collecting and comparing data. From that information it has become clear that the main issue with Rigs wasn't the general drop rate per se, but the relative distribution. Production of rigs and collection of rig parts has not been significantly slowed by forum post, most plaers could care less about the forums. Its been slowed by two things:
The initial requirement of survey V The distribution of circuit boards.
The former was taken care of tuesday and the latter will be dealt with on wed. Rigs should start rolling out in decent numbers after that.

Hey, no offence taken, I was the first public Rig Maker.
There might have been some sooner... rember that titan that somone else "might" have built?I cannot recall there name but I do rember ASCN making the first.
As for people not investing, that guide works well and its how I got my first rig. I enjoy salvage, and it makes me what i am, First.

another nifty thing about salvaging that i haven't heard anyone else mention is that the salvage beams are differen than tractor beams. you can use multiple salvagers on the same can, makes it very fast.
good game
