I have been looking into the best setup for salvaging. I am using a Catalyst with 4x salvager I and 4x Tractorbeam 1x Afterburner and 1x Shield Booster 1x Armour Repairer and 2x cargohold expander Its got speed and cargo capacity to collect peoples loot for them as well as the ability to salvage lots fast
With my corpmates out npc ratting i can be kept busy playing Janitor and sweeping up the wrecks. But all ships have rigs and I keep eyeing jealously at the Salvage Tackle. I would want to use a more robust ship to put it on but my main issue is that with all the parts taking so long to get what bonus is it going to give me to my type of ship setup

Wrecks either work by being given a % chance of having an item, then being rolled when you are successful at salvaging, or drop with an item already in them at a % chance. Either way, I doubt anything will help you find a higher % of wrecks with items.
IMO the rig just helps speed it up. Salvage skill is 5% chance per lvl of "access difficulty bonus", and salvager(5%)/tackle(10%) have the same wording. That wording says to me it makes it less difficult, IE less failures per item. I don't see how it could affect # of items you find.
If you can't keep up & have the money, then get the tackle. Better yet, have them buy it for you.

I was afraid you were going to say that. With my current setup I NEED at least 2 groups ratting in orther to keep fully occupied with salvaging. So having a tackle that speeds up salvaging just doesnt make any sense.
oh well, Thanks for the help

This DOES NOT affect your "You failed to salvage the wreck" message, seems you get just as many failures with high skills (and also the rig) as with low ones so you can still sit there waiting 10 cycles for your salvager to sucessfully salvage the wreck.
What it DOES seem to affect is your chance to actually get an item when you do sucessfully salvage a wreck. With salvaging one i did about 6 missions full of npc's and did not recieve a single salvaged component and it took a fair amount of time to salvage each wreck beause of all the failures.
With salvaging 4 it took me just as long to salvage wrecks as with salvaging one because of all the failures but i've now been averaging 6-10 salvaged components per mission (multi area deadspace gates of course).

I have been salvaging with a new alt using a minmitar Probe ship (1x Tractor beam 1x Salvager) as it is the only thing he can fly currently. I have been salvaging belt rats with him as they are the only thing I can seem to find stuff other than scrap metal near Cosmos mission area due to storyline rats. When he was at Salvage 2 he got good salvage almost every wreck, but would fail often. Salvage 3 he got same amount, maybe tad more am not exactly sure, but the wrecks didnt take as long to salvage. Just personal input I have seen.
