I¦d suggest you download the latest full client, install it in a fresh directory, install the latest directX revision (9.0c) and the latest nvidia standard drivers (93.71)
- After installation launch the game in default settings (1024x768 fullscreen), check fps
A few other things you can try: - check in the graphics options if the refresh setting is set to "interval immediate" - disable any multisampling - check if there is any other cpu intense background process while running eve via the task manager - manually raise the priority level of eve in the task manager a few steps
and ofc: get rid of the old hardware and upgrade to serious eve-proven "Yarrrdware"

multisampging antialisiang vsync etc is off pci is 16 no extensive stuff in taskmanager drivers seem to be ok, ram is plenty, fiddled with buffersize with no effect, tweaked settings with no effekt. iam getting clueless :-< ---

Checked sound (disabled it?), what about disabling HT'ing in the bios? ---

Right click the eve.exe file and set CPU affinity to 1. Try that out and see if it helps. I know the 3.4ghz is only a single CPU however the HT will show it as 2 CPU's so your only getting part of the CPU power for the game.
Also my roommate found if he reduced his MTU his lag and framerate improved. Now since our ISP is set to 1500 on the MTU that means somewhere along the line reduces the MTU. If we can find out the IP of the server then you can run a program to find max MTU size to optimize that as well.

Yep, disabling hyperthreading should double your FPS, even on a much older graphics card.
A few points: - Hyperthreading was mostly a gimick to encourge software to go multithreaded. As you can see that didn't happen like it should've. - Eve needs a major rework to sort this out. - Don't expect anything more without a much faster CPU or a better coded Eve. Other hardware is not all that important atm, eg: Eve runs fine on dialup.

Have you guys tried running 3dMark to check if your pc performance is what it should be, compared to other pcs?

TBH, a lot of people are reporting really poor framerates since the release of Revelations. Certainly I know my pretty capable machine that was running at 100+fps in space is now running at around 30fps dropping down to 10 or so up close in large battles.
Before I never had client lag issues (I play with sound and effects off 99% of the time), just server/sync issues. Now I get both, despite nothing having changed with my PC and all other apps and games running just fine.
Dude (CCP), where is my framerate?
PS: This is really hurting dual client also.

Yep, I've petitioned it and got the suggestion to make a bug report, including a log from the logserver. I noticed that when exciting EVE while flying in space and then join the game again, would give me the usual fps back but just for a few seconds after it would drop 25% or more.
We'll just have to see and wait. --

I filed a bug report, kind of difficult to put much detail into it. "Steps to reproduce: update client" . There have been posts here, in general and in game dev forums about this problem. Yet I have not seen one dev reply even saying they will look into it.
Overall it is kind of annoying, as I have seen the performance of both the client and server drop as I have upgraded over the past two years. Server lag I have learned to cope with on the most part (though it is far from acceptable) but my fleet fights reducing to 5fps slideshows now is totally awful. Sometimes it would be nice to zoom in for once, especially considering how old the client is.
Maybe if we could get some more options to tailor graphics settings we would be able to pinpoint the issue more easily? Just an idea

are you mad? to forcily hide things we dont want to see/things we want to ignore to impriove performance
besides, graphic stuff is client lag, not server lag, some things are server lag ---

Read what I wrote, I can distinguish between client and server lag. To emphasize, pre-Kali I would not suffer from low framerates, only from slow updates from the server. Post-Kali I get pretty awful framerates also.
I fail to see how adding *options* changes anything apart from the ability to narrow problems down. Then at least I could file a bug report and say "well I turned on option x and that had no effect, but when I tweaked option y my framerate improved". As it stands currently, you just cant do that beyond the most basic (and obvious) of settings.
Edit: PS not trying to derail your thread and I see personally your client is being somewhat better, but myself and quite a few others are having dreadful performance issues. Would be nice to see some dev feedback

Im having aweful performance problems myself and it just seem to be eve only that has this issue, i run other games like Ground Control II on full detail and no problemo, i run music programs and i have upgraded my computer and everything else has improved except eve that is decreased only. i hope devs would do something soon..
Asus p4s8x-x > Celeron 2.4Ghz 1024RAM Creative Audigy 2 ZS (with latest sb drivers) Sapphire radeon 9550 250MB (with latest Catalyst drivers) WinXp pro with SP2 and FW2.0 (new installed) DirectX 9.0c 256kb Wireless connection
i get FPS around_: in Station 25-37FPS ~ Outside Station 8-13FPS ~ Mission & Astroid belts 2-13FPS ~ Warp drive 8-15FPS ~ About nno change in window or fullscreen mode ~ about no change in resolution same if i run 1024x as 1300x or 1600x..
it must be wrong with how the eve client interact with directX or how the client act with the gfx overall im no expert but all them stars that came in background in revelation.. maybe all that has a connection to this graphix issue, maybe not. now its in the air atleast :D _________________________________________________

Doom3 and Oblivion are graphics card intensive, not CPU intensive, which is what EVE is (it makes far more use out of a faster CPU than a faster graphics card). Try tweaking your processor in the bios, disabling HT'ing, etc.
Not true in the case of Oblivion: http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=2747&p=3
If your computer runs Oblivion well it should run Eve very well. Oblivion is extremely hardware intensive.

Hi guys,
This may sound weird, but it may have something to do with the ships you fly. I mostly fly caldari ships and never had any problems with low frame rates. After revelations my fps was a bit lower, but i still get 140 in station, and about 50 to 70 outside.
Today i bought a Punisher (amarr frigate) to transport some stuff from empire to 0.0 and i started to get really low FPS. I would start at my normal FPS, but after a few minutes it dropped to 5 while flying outside. I restarted the client a couple of times, and every time when i was back in the game, it was good for a few minutes, and then it would drop again.
I got to my destination, and got into a caldari ship and roamed in a gang the whole night without any problems...
This could be just a coincidence, but i thought i'd let you all know.

Confirmed. The same issue.
Yesterday everything was OK, but now I enter the game and after 5-10 mins fps drops from 200+ to 5-10 Impossible to play. Relogging helps, but after 5-10 mins all starts over again.

Exaclty the same for me. Fine up until this afternoon, then 5 mins (or slightly longer if I clear the cache before rebooting client), then slowdown to 5fps.
I'm guessing something's going into the cache that's causing the problems?

Edited by: SillyWaif on 18/12/2006 23:53:34 Had multiple corp members report, like i did, that framerate drops to like 2 fps. Rebooting client helps only for a little while. Signed out in the hope that this 'memory leak'-like problem gets resolved with tomorrow's (Dec 19th) patchround.
Nothing to do with my setup. That runs 150-200 fps easy in 'normal' conditions.

That just shows that a faster CPU makes a different, it still doesn't make it a CPU dependant game. You will get far, far, far more out of Oblivion if you get a faster graphics card, than a faster CPU, whereas you will get far more out of EVE with a faster CPU, than you will with a $700 graphics card. ---
