With a now imminent move out of Empire space I've been looking for a small gang ship to aim for.
I keep going back to look at the Eagle, I like using guns and skill for them, missiles I don't find much fun.
However I've also been eyeing the Vulture. Decent fitting, looks like it tanks at least as well as the Ferox or better yet in the region I'm in is 30 mill cheaper than the cruiser based Eagle and 130 mill cheaper than it's T2 BC counterpart the Nighthawk.
At 85 mill it's hardly expensive and a ship I could afford to lose.
Am I missing something? Or is it just like the Crow/Raptor issue 23 mill/7 mill, where the variance just seems to be that the missile version of the ship is premium priced for Caldari and no one wants the gunboat. Caldari Gunboat Pilot

Edited by: DiuxDium on 10/12/2006 22:23:32 I've not heard much about it. Just looking at its raw stats though, I believe it suffers from fitting issues. Much like fitting rails on the Ferox. I'd also mention it's damage is probably crap.
Eagle is superior..Actually, make that the Beagle is superior.
Edit: Damn you spelling. If you're really set on getting a CS. Go for the Vulture, do right up about your experience with it, I haven't heard anything about it. I'm curious as to how it preforms.

I did wonder about that but it has 275 more grid than a Ferox without any skill bonuses.
Having a quick look at it, I don't think it wuld be too difficult to fit well, also I'd be adding PDU's if I passive tanked it anyway. Caldari Gunboat Pilot

GODLY tank compared to a Ferox. SAME gank (with missiles) as Ferox. Fitting-wise, EASIER to fit than a Ferox... ...much more PG and CPU, only one extra midslot, and one less rigslot, rest identical.
That aside, the ONLY reason people don't swarm the Vulture is because you need Logistics L4 instead of HAC L4... ...and you usually have most if not all of HAC prerequisites as a "fighter", but usually none of the ones for Logistics.
If you used to fly a missile Ferox *AND* have the skills to fly a Vulture... make the switch, NOW. The ONLY reason not to do it is if you don't have the skills. _ My skills | Mod/Rig stacknerfing explained |

Vulture's a fine ship, and quite possibly the most powerful non-capital tanker in EVE.
The Eagle has a lot more people that can fly it, and it takes a month or more to go from Eagle to Vulture. It's also made mainly for gang-assistance, and not uber frig popping like an Eagle.

Well the skills is the obvious problem, but I can deal with that, I'm here for the long haul.
Just took a look at the ship and saw in T2 comparison it was real cheap and wondered if I was missing something. Caldari Gunboat Pilot

The price disparities are quite alarming IMO.
I'm going to be skilled for a Cerb very shortly (Xmas day, wooo!) and I was shopping for one, and 235mil was a kick in the ass for my wallet. After I had bought it (of course) I spotted that there are Eagles selling in Jita for 80 mil, Vultures for 105mil and Nighthawks for 155mil. I have no idea why the Cerb is so much more expensive, it isn't any better than the Eagle that I can see.
Some curious market dynamics indeed.

Supply and demand, I guess ?
Supply is about the same for all of the above, demand is minimal for Vultures, not so high for Eagles, huge for Cerb, a bit less for NHs but still pretty high.
Why ? Simple. Number of people that can fly (and would fly) them, and don't already have one (either never had, or just lost it). You can lose a Cerb easily on a mistake, but you must be AFKing to lose a Vulture (or face a large gatecamp... and when I say "large", I mean several BSs plus some other ships). _ My skills | Mod/Rig stacknerfing explained |

Shows the differences region to region too.
I'm 4 jumps (yet one region away from Jita)
Cerb - 245 mill Eagle 102 mill Nighthawk - 190 mill
All more than Jita
Then Vulture - 82 mill
Hence why it puzzled me, multiple ships at those prices too. Caldari Gunboat Pilot

Well, summary: Cerb - Winbutton for level 4s and ratting Eagle - Good fast locking sniper, max range around 200km. Good for 0.0 gatecamps Nighthawk - Same as Cerb, less demand because fewer people can fly it. Vulture - Similar to the Eagle, but longer skill training time and longer lock times. More damage though. --- Our greatest glory is not in never failing, but in rising up every time we fail. - Emerson |

the 23-25% bonus that Vultures give to a skilled pilot make up for a lot of the problems with the Vulture.
It is however easy to fit, has an amazing tank and rubbish dmg. I do like mine though.
