So just a little background, the alliance that I fly with took sovereignty of a few systems over the past few months and, whilst we haven't necessarily struggled, we are yet to see the true financial benefits from holding the sovereignty (neighbouring politics over moons ect, recently sorted).
One of the corps in the alliance has gone ahead and started production on an outpost, and I can't help but feel that we would benefit more by storing the ore, minerals and PI materials in order to put them towards citadels, which, from my understanding, are going to be cheaper alternatives to outposts, whilst remaining almost as significant. (I'm aware that the Citadels are destructible, however given the area we should be able to defend them pretty well).
My question is simple, with the state of current and upcoming affairs within New Eden, do others feel like it would be better served waiting for the release of the Citadels, or for the corp involved to go ahead and build the outpost? |

Well, how badly do you need the outpost right now and can you wait till maybe the end of this year for citadels to come out (or when they come out)? Storing your ore away is like storing your money away in a chest on some island. Better to put it to use like you would your money CDs, bonds, stocks...

An outpost will create content. It will give you a tangible item to defend as well as make your ownership feel real. People will want to take it from you, so you have some good fights ahead.
Storing minerals creates nothing but a pile of minerals.
I say have some fun now instead of waiting for something that might be delayed over and over again.

REAL sov = All moons are yours, no one else's
If you actually own SOV, then yes, make an Outpost. You'll have enough ISK and raw materials to build multiple citadels when they arrive.
Otherwise, why not get the people that actually own the SOV (people sitting on the valuable moons, not you), to supply it?

That's the thing we are pretty much surrounded by outposts that we are able to dock at and, whilst having one of our own would be a major benefit, I can't help but feel like the Citadels would be more beneficial for us, especially when taking effective costs into consideration.
I know that we don't need an outpost immediately, i just can't seem to decide between supporting the outpost production currently underway, or arguing that waiting for the citadels would be more appropriate.
Sorry I realise I sound like I'm askingpeople to make my mind up for me, I'm not, I'm just asking for what people beleive to be the pros and cons of both options |

I would also be cautious about building one with citadels coming eventually. I would save up the min's and build one of them. Don't forget citadels can be constructed anywhere. If you loose sic you could plop one in high sec or low sec.
Or you could just build a few Titans... |

It was always my dream to build an outpost but I think way back in the early days a smaller group could pull it off and enjoy it for a while, these days I think it will just become another thing to blow up for the big guys when they get bored.
But hey, go for it!!! What could go wrong? |

Hal Morsh, Not quite; the Issue is whether to go into full production of P4 mats for the outpost or whether to focus on other things whilst slowly building up a stockpile to use for the Citadels when they are released.
My main worry is that we go forward with the production of an outpost only to realise that we would be better with Citadels instead, hence why I asked for the advice of others. |

Outposts will exist for several years to come.
Citadels will also not be 'cheaper'. The XL Citadel at least is intended to be priced similar or more than an outpost. |
