Hey.
What exactly is drone orbit speed? It can't be just the transversal velocity, can it? If this was the case and I'm doing the math correctly drones would always be in their tracking speed [given that tracking speed = 2*pi / 360 * arctan (transversal velocity / activation range)] wether they are orbiting frigs, cruisers, bs or whatever. But I guess there HAS to be a difference depening on the speed of the ship they are oprbiting. I just stumbled over this when I was trying to calculate the hit-chance for drones.
Could someone help me? O.o

it's their speed when they are orbiting
to expand: drones have 2 speeds. MWD speed when approaching target and then orbit speed when they get within optimals. |

Well, sounds kinda plausible ^^ Thanks. But still - orbit speed isn't measured relative to the orbited ship, but absolute? So, let's say a drone has an orbit speed of 400 m/s and is orbiting a ship that is flying 200 m/s - then the transversal speed can be 200 m/s (400 - 200 m/s when they are flying in the same direction) or 600 m/s (200 + 400 m/s when flying in opposite direction)?
In which case my next quastion would be what happens when the speed of the orbited ship is higher than orbiting speed. Will the MWD-speed be partly "added" to the orbiting speed? |

all velocities are absolute not relative to anything.

drones will enable mwd till they catch up, then disable it, fall back and enable it again.
thats why you can mitigate a lot of drone damage as MWDing frigate even if your MWD speed is lower than the drone MWD speed
how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value

Relative would be as you say, subject to vector math. Which would also be actual transversal and/ord angular velocity.
No to the last bit. The above reply explains correctly that drones will be in a state of "limbo" (I guess?) and will frequently overshoot/undershoot. |

The initial unskilled speeds for a Warrior II are
Orbit Velocity: 900 m/s MWD Velocity: 5040 m/s
Once launched from your drone-bay those values will increase due to Skills, Fitted Modules & Hull Bonus (if any)
The target ship has to travel faster than 900 m/s for your drone to repeatedly switch between orbit mode and pursuit mode, in most circumstances this won't happen. |
