Not asking for specific setups, just wondering what ships can be good for solo pvp.
what about the "stealth" ships - are they viable to play solo or do you really need to use them in conjunction with other friendly ships?
thanks

Gallente: Ishkur, Taranis, Thorax, Vexor, Ishtar, Deimos (better in gangs), Brutix, Eos or Astarte (first is better), Dominix, Blasterthron (if you have good skills)...and since Kali we also have the kind of the hill called Myrmidon
Minmatar: Claw, Stiletto (anti-hauler), Sabre, Jaguar, Wolf, Vagabond, Hurricane, Sleipnir, Typhoon (and maybe Tempest)
Dunno about the other races because I don't like 'em. It all depends on what you try to kill. The Dominix is probably one of the better solo pvp ships, and so is the Myrmidon/Vaga. I didn't list recon ships because I hardly ever fly them, but the Pilgrim and Curse are both pretty good solo...and the Arazu is nice to have in a gang. If you're after frigs/haulers/ceptors, try a Huggin and web 'em from far away. ________________________________________________

People should stop training the race they believe to be best. Just train for the race that is the most fun to play for you.
In my case I started with a Gallente char who's now almost maxed out (frig/cruiser/bc/BS lvl5, 7mil in only hybrid gunnery, over 6mil in drones, etc.), however, lots of times I have more fun flying my Minmatar char who's still pretty noobish (16mil SP).
EDIT: Yeah, AC ruppy rocks! If you rig it for damage and fit 2 med nos you can be almost as effective as a Munnin ________________________________________________

So... do you want to KILL the enemy, or only make him FLEE (or even just survive long enoug until you can escape) ? In that question lies a world of differences in ships viable and their setups. _ My skills | Mod/Rig stacknerfing explained |

Caldari: Crow, (B)eagle... err... help me out here. Probably Drake and Rokh (blaster fit or nos/torp) no experience with them though. Harpy used to do ok as a mini-sniper but can't kill much now with the Spike nerf and ship hit point boost.

Edited by: slothe on 11/12/2006 13:37:33 dont solo in a recon they suck, not enough firepower / cap imho.
ships i solo in...
jaguar (my favourite) claw (fun and surprises people when they die) dominix (like everyone else, but different) megathron thorax vexor ishtar deimos muninn vagabond eagle raven ishkur tempest typhoon rupture brutix cyclone
in fact anything with firepower + 3 mids (for mwd web + scram) + some kind of tank. but the above are particularly good (except the vagabond which is too good so i refuse to fly it )
Before complaining about any ship try flying Minmatar |

As a race..Amarr tend ot lack in this field, due primarily to lack of mid slots.
Pilgrim is very good though. Curse too..but most ships think twice if they scan a curse.
Other than that, lack of mids makes it hard to truely solo much , as ul usually be missing a web or something. Bhaalgorn is also nice, kinda Amarr :p
Gallente is ftw atm. Domi, Ishtar, Thorax, Thron the new ships too. All very good.

Ishkur is realy funny, if you get a cruiser 5 drones + ur blasters will outdamage it (with around 2500 armor by yourself) if you get frig that you can web the fight become short range so 5 drones + blasters.
If you find an inty that keep moving away from your blaster range well, 3 light drones + 2 med drones realy wipe out interceptors :)
My ishkur fitting is the following:
3x Ion blaster t2 (no grid for t2 rails :( ) 1x Drone Link Augmentator (damn useful for getting stuff that are far from you) 1x Afterburner Cold Gas 1x True sansha warp distruptor (i loot them in ts rats) 1x Drone Navigation Computer (your drone can follow mwding frigates without problems) 1x 12 grid micro auxiliary powercore (cost a bit...) 1x 400mm Rolled tungsten 1x Small armor repair
good armor, average speed, sig radius is always low (with mwd if u get webbed you become enormous and slow) your drone will pursuit your enemy for 60km and is very good in fleet battles!
This fitting is realy skill intensive, i fit all this using 100% and 100% if i remember well.. so try to play on it and use named stuff for cpu and "non-t2" if u lack grid!
3x Small Drone t2 + 2 Med drone t2 is a wonderful mix :) sometime i tryed fitting more Small drones for the speed of them but 2 hammerheads realy helps vs hard frigate/cruisers.

Ferox and Caracal are fine solo for Caldari. Not keen on solo in the Drake, I have to run the same setup as on my Ferox, which wastes slots completely, it really needs more powergrid.

You can solo in any ship in the game, even industrials. . .Its just a matter of practice.
But back in EvE, I think Gallente ships are best suited to solo pvp. Minmatar are fun too but you will find the Gallente to be all round better at killing things quickly and they generally have harder shells. The Gallente also have really nice Interceptor and Assult Frigs - both of which make a good Solo pvp base. Minmatar are faster but softer and they hit very lightly. Amarr lack the mids to make solo pvp easy, but it can be done if played correctly. Caldari have the Crow and the Harpy which make very nice solo pvpers, but are lacking for these roles when you move into cruiser and battleship levels - but that can be overcome with good play.
To conclude: Easy Answer: Gallente Real Answer: All four races.

Edited by: Merin Ryskin on 12/12/2006 07:09:54 Overall, Gallente are probably your best bet for solo pvp. Solo pvp is all about the close-range knife fight, to keep inside web/scramble range. And Gallente blaster ships are the best at that range. Minmatar can match them, but require more skills (player skill and SP) to do it. Amarr are overshadowed by both, lacking any real advantage to make up for their damage type and cap problems. Caldari are hit too hard by the need to stay in scramble range (not to mention the crippled tank after fitting web/mwd/scram), denying them the range advantage they need to win.
As for stealth ships... bombers are essentially worthless, especially with the HP boost. Sure, they might look good on paper, but in reality they're no stealthier than a Raven with a cloak, and far more fragile.
Recons on the other hand, completely different story. The Pilgrim is an awesome solo ship. We all know nos/drone/ewar ships are powerful... now you get a covert ops cloak to let you pick your targets and avoid any ugly fights. The Rapier and Arazu are alright, but more limited in their target selection. The Falcon is a pure gang ship, its dps is just too pathetic to actually kill anything. Of course all of them can be very deadly in gangs, but you asked about solo work.

Giving him a list of every ship in the game isnt going to help him, but he does need to clarify what type of combat he wants, what type of sps he has and what amount of money to spare. For real solo pvp you need midslots and some method of beating most other setups.
If you want an assault frig go jaguar (minmatar) or ishkur. Jaguar to beat tracking with low sig radius interceptor style or ishkur for raw damage output. These are both good small ships and fun to play but dont go trying a domi in them.
If you want a battleship go gallente for dominix since its tough to beat an ecm or nos domi 1 on 1 since theyll just gank your cap and tank while the drones beat you down.
If you want a BC go caldari for the drake, can build it ecm with 5 ecm drones and ditch the shield tank for more ecm/dampeners with 7 hams, mwd, webber, scram and a cap booster with bcus or just go raw damage/shield tank (itll lose to nos-domis if you dont go ecm though).
HAC go ishtar hands down.
And yeah amarr suck due to lack of med power slots, really depends on what you want though. Id suggest going gallente for the easiest setups (drone spank n' tank with twists) unless you want speed, then minmatar or an ecm twist, then go caldari.
Either way, cap booster = pvp necessity, otherwise youll just get nos'ed down, tanked down etc... 6 med nos II's generate the same amount of cap per second as a single med cap booster II with 800 charges that reloads every use so you need it to survive vs people that play cap. Other way of countering it is to just jam the hell out of the nos'er but this just gives you some perspective..
This is just my opinion though.

I favor the raven myself. Good firepower with a powerful tank and it's been my bread and butter for quiet awhile. You can fit it out to deal with pretty much anything, and if you set up with cap injectors you can out tank two battleships long enough to take them both out. As for stealthy ships, I'm really not a fan of them. The recon stealths with the exception of the pilgrim really don't pack enough punch to actualy break a ship's tank. They're nice as scouts who then become lockdown monsters (Arazu and Rapier come to mind) but to work efectivly you'd need something else around to do the damage. ----

ok i only fly gallente really so far and i love the vexor, t2 drones hurt quite alot :) also celestis is a good ship fit it with 3 damps and only bs can lock ya, unless its got sensor boosters so this can be interesting with a 20k scram and some good drones. a very cheap ship if u do get locked. or the stealth version which will let u get to the desired range and then lock i training for one now should be very fun
and for a tight budget a tristan is good fun, i managed to take down a ferox with one recently:)
