Edited by: Baggam on 21/11/2003 19:29:28 So I spent AGES (2 months) on this game, doing loads of agent missions; scraping together money for skills and finally I get myself into a cruiser and go looking outside of Empire Space.
So a member of the CA, Pod's me! Apparently I was in there space. *Not that I saw any signs* I now have no money and no ship and I have to start all over again
Why is it so hard for New players to get a break in this game?
Why can't I just find a nice corp that lets me into the outer space and gives back as much as it takes in mining/hauling/defending etc?!?
Why is it so inbread!!!

It's not if you follow some guidelines: 1. Never go into anything below 0.4 with anything you can't afford to lose, or at the very least be totally alert. 2. Always look at ships destroyed on map before planning a 0.0 route. 3. Always keep an eye on local. 4. Get the EVE political map each week from www.kalsjournal.com. GL. I know some people who've been playing for months and haven't suffered a single loss.

It doesn't take 2 months to get in a cruiser. Even in a frigate its pretty easy to mine 500K worth of ore in an evening thus making another cruiser availible to you in under two weeks of very easy mining. And thats worse case senario. If you can catch me you can have me. |

Edited by: SUNscatcher on 21/11/2003 19:37:57 I did assume that he has reached cruiser stage once and thus his skills arent' at newbie levels. With my current char with a whoppin 178K in skill points I can easily mine 500K in a few hours. but then I know what i'm doing.
PS the pity me I just lost my first cruiser and don't know what to do now is a pretty old scam. Not that this is a scam but it could easily be. If you can catch me you can have me. |

2 Months, gimme a break! You aren't a new player anymore and you should have known where you were going and what you were doing and if it took you two months to get enough for a cruiser you have been doing something horribily, horribly wrong. This may be a good time to start over and try a new approach to the game.
You've really no one to blame but yourself. When you go into 0.0 space there is always a chance you will die.

Yah, if it took you two months, you really weren't working that hard anyway so you don't have too much to complain about. I just passed the 3 month mark and I've made enough for about 35-40 Cruisers. That's about half of a cruiser per day since I started, not counting a couple vacations I took.
It's really not hard for new players to get a break, you just have to be willing to actually work hard at the game, and I don't just mean sitting in an asteroid belt for hours on end:
a) Don't just join the first corporation you see with 100 members and expect to be powerful because your corporation is uber l337. Research corporations, talk to CEOs and members; find one that's right for you and that's going to reward you for the things you do to help the corporation. b) Don't buy a ship as soon as you have the skill, or can afford it. Wait until you have the appropriate support skills (weapons, energy management, shields, launchers, etc.) in order to operate it properly. Don't buy a ship until you can afford to insure it, and even then it's safe to be able to have enough cash on hand to totally replace it, so you're not left with "nothing." c) Don't be careless. Bigger ship != safer. A battleship is just as fragile as a shuttle in the hands of the wrong person.

You must play a lot becuase most people I know, take a long time to get the ships they want. Usually 2 months or 1 month. Most of the people in my corp are not power players and spend months mining just to get a ship. And don't say "I don't play much.." because you obviously do it you can build that much ****. I think people are very closed minded as to who [plays this game. A lot of the players are NOT gamers and just play becuase it's fun. But the nature of this game requires a lot of time. How many hours would you have ot mine in a imicus or velt to get a nice thorax? or a battleship? It would take a while. ---------------------------------------

Agents pay well once you hit level 3 and since he has been doing them for 2 months, he should be well into the level 3 missions. If he doesn't play that often it's his fault and his alone that he lost his ship, which it seems he could not afford to lose in the first place.
He's been around long enough to know better regardless of how often he plays.
Why were you in 0.0 space if losing your ship meant that you would be knocked back to starting over? Just makes no sense at all.

Well, any decently respectable Corporation can provide a new member with a Frigate. Probe is probably the best Miner. I mined in a Probe for weeks when I started, and once I trained up my Industrial skills I hauled for people if they would do 50/50 or 40/60 splits or whatever. I could easily make 400-600k per day within a week of starting. Given that rate, or even a little less, it can't take more than 3-5 weeks to get into an insured Cruiser if you're not tossing ISK out the window every chance you get. And once you're in that, making over 1M per day to afford replacing it is child's play.
I play a lot, but by no means off the charts.
Point being EVE has a steep learning curve, but it's definitely not hard to get going if you actually put some thought into what you're doing.

a frigate mines 10k of omber in an hour easily. 100k of omber will get u a cruiser. Now if you only had time to play the equivalent of 1 hr per day that'd take you 10 days tops. So this months thing makes little sense to me. _______________________________________________________ Get custom sigs and graphics done here Unforgivn Website

Nothing happened, you just paid the normal price for the skillpack "Social: Pirates & Politics". Be grateful you didn't even have to train for it!

A player using 2 miner 1's and mining at level 2 can mine 88 ore units per minute. If mining scordite that equates to 586 units per minute. Thus for mining scordite for one hour 35160 units of scordite are obtained with a market value of (6 X 35160) 210,960isk. A middle level cruiser is pretty easy to find at 3.5 mill thus 3.5mil/211K = 16.6 hours of mining with undeveloped skills and using miners ones.
Please don't insult the community when several members point out that it isn't all that time comsuming to obtain a cruiser without being a power player. In this instant someone could with as little as an hour a night have a cruiser in just over two weeks time.
And that doesn't even take into account that in the course of the two weeks your mining skills will go from level 2 to level 4 thus adding 10% to your mining output in this time period and Thus shortening the time required.
Sorry but this smells like a scam to me. If you can catch me you can have me. |

None of that information is official, or on a site that noobs are told about. The manual has nothing to do with the game as it is today.
The issue is, has been, griefers are exploiting the weaknesses and flaws of the game to ruin the game for all. Noobs, and old players are leaving faster then the new noobs are joining...result, the decline of the playerbase and the reviews are influencing more and more NOT to buy Eve-online due to these issues.
CCP has decided to kiss the asses of the griefing community to ensure that Eve will be just another gank fest PvP field.
RTCW "Enemy Territory" is free, and it is pure PvP, try it griefers, you may like it(or may not since you can't ruin a game for anyone)

And for Gods sake, insure your ship. It makes all the difference between getting podded and going "Aaaaaaaahhhhh! All that work down the drain", and getting podded and going "Whelp. Time to go shoppin'"...
Seriously, with platinum insurance, you will make a profit if you lose your ship. Even if you have to spend a bunch of money replacing your clone, you will still come out well.
And another thing, don't consider those months you took getting into your cruiser "lost months". You've been training for 2 months, right? You're fine.

I lost a moa a couple of weeks ago, and as a freelancer that hurt hard.
but I was working on a lvl 3 agent at the time and gotten 5 implants since then and now I can afford to replace the moa...
I play very casually most of the time and I'm not one of the uber rich, but I know not to go into certain areas unless I am prepared to get ganked, heck my main agent ship is still a probe because it's easy to replace...
