Sell your blackbird, train gallente cruiser, buy a thorax. Fit guns and plates.

Tough choice. I would fit assault launchers in higslots.
Medslots. If you're solo (which won't really work).
4 x Radical jammers 1 x Multispectral Jammer and 1 x 20km warpscramler.
lows. Fit a plate and one of the new ECM mods.
For groups it's all out jamming 4 x racials and 2 x multispecs. ECM mods in lows.
You're gonna run into cap problems quite fast with the blackbird as the jammers consume a ****load of cap.

Hiya,
Personally I think I would get a Caracal for ratting/missioning due to the better damage you'll be dishing out.
However you could probably build a fairly good tank on the Blackbird with your 6 mid slots. Not sure what this would do to your cap but what about:
Highs: 1 Medium Nos 3 x Assault Missile Launchers
Mids: Medium Shield Booster Shield Boost Amplifier 2 x Race Specific Active hardeners 1 Cap Recharger 10mn Afterburner
Lows: Power Diagnostic Ballistic Control
(Bear in mind I don't fly these for ratting or missioning, a passive setup may well be better.)
For PVP the Blackbird in my opinion needs to be part of a gang. Once you start fitting the jammers you have no tank and you can die amazingly fast. You can fit a large plate in the lows to help you last longer but then that takes away from the jammer strength boost mods.

Caracal is very effective at ratting... best way I found was to use a full rack of heavies, passive tank it, and kite them. Just start running away and fire missiles out your ass. Your actual 'hitting range' will be further than your missile velocity * flight time is, since you're moving away and they're moving towards you.

Edited by: Seriya on 12/12/2006 12:34:05 Agree with other posters, you can't solo effectively in a Blackbird. You're probably better off in an Osprey even, at least it has a decent dronebay.
Get a Caracal for now, the Blackbird is a pvp support ship and not a good early choice.
