Well, I've always thought a dreadnaught would be nice to have, and so after almost a year of playing EVE I'm finally getting around to getting the skills (probably be using one on SiSi for a long time until I can afford one...). However, being Caldari, I'm not totally sold on going for the phoenix. Yes, I have BS lvl 4 (with about four days into 5) but I don't know if thats the route I want to go.
Having read what little I could find about dreads (every seems to be after Carriers *cough*nyx*cough*) I would like to hear some opinions.
First off, the Caldari dread seems very fitted for someone like myself who has a fairly large amount of missile skills, but unfortuneatly it also has a miniscule drone bay. Now, I'm hoping to use this more for POS defense than offense, but either way, drones would be nice. However, the Moros is A) more common and B) gallente (heheh), but clearly has the largest drone set up and therefore people say is the most useable for non-POS combat. After gazing upon a Naglfar though, I'm veeeerrrry interested in it. First off, its got a nice split so that it does projectile damage, but also can choose its damage type with siege torps, also, it has a much bigger drone bay that the Phoenix and looks by far the best ship in this game that is not a Titan. Anyway, the Ammar dread doesn't really interest me seeing as I'm not a laserist, but I'm interested to hear about all aspects of all the dreadnaughts. Any help here would be great and I'm willing to train up any skills to nearly any level. ---------- Revelations is amazing

Edited by: Christopher Dalran on 12/12/2006 22:39:15 The Moros looks like you could EASILY toss out some sentry drones and I dunno maybee 1 volly cruisers from 90km and knock the better chunk out of a battleship?
With +50% drone hp/damage per lvl and 185,000 armor I find it difficult to believe anything could even aproach a moros and live to tell about it.

Aceanuu,
The caldari dred is actually a very decent dred. I have seen people really manipulate its usefullness. I have first hand seen one insta pop a bs and curse.
The pilot fitted for just popping this one target who was plaging the system.
He put on 3 target painters and 5 heavy tp drones. locked the target and shot one volley. it was an insta pop of the thron. he later did the same vs a curse. I am not saying that it is an uber killer by anymeans it is still a pos popper and thats about it. But it can swing to have a good time.
I have often thought about ussing one at a gate camp with bubbles in conjuction with a mini recon. the one that has tp bonus and web bonus. LOL how funny to be insta popping people as they came thru a jump gate.
A good point was brought up about the moros tho. It does have that very good bonus to SENTRIES. It reads as a sentry only bonus but it could work on all ships in which case it would actually be decent at dfending itself in that horrid case where your stuck alone.
But TBH train for whatever one will help your bs. If your a raven fan and lvl 5 bs will help use a pheonix. if you have good drone skills go with gal (not my fav but eh)

This guy isn't lying. Phoenix is a surprisingly good anti-BS and anti-Capital platform. Get webbed, painted and a Phoexinx on you and your not gonna be happy when those torps hit you. -----

People go with the Amarr Dread because Amarr dont use ammo so it has more space for Fuel and it has the best tank out of the 4 I believe.

Yep, being Amarr it has the most lows (8 I believe) and a very decent Cap to run a tank off. -----

Sure. All you have to do is sacrifice TWO high slots for a pair of Drone Link Augmentors, and you can reach out past 90km with your drones. Getting rid of those pesky Capital Guns is every Dread pilot's dream.

Go the Moros. The drone bonuses are awesome. Sentry drones almost turn into disposable sentry guns. Yes they work for POS assault too and add significant damage.
With a rack of hull expanders low, it also makes a terrific Jump-capable hauler.

Well, the Ammar is still only somewhat interesting to me, not as much as the other racials. I'm glad to hear some good news on the Cald and Gallente, any thoughts on the Minnie? ---------- Revelations is amazing

I believe the Naglfar has the worst tank out of everything. They always get called primary because of that reason if a POS is being sieged. At least in my experience. The Moros is an OK Anti-BS/Support dread(1 hit my Mega for over 12k damage ).The Phoenix is good because if you fire at something that is outside POS shields and it goes in then the Torps will follow them .Unless they fixed that but I am not sure.

Well, it has the least lowslots out of the 3 armor tankers with 6 (Moros has 7, revelation 8) which means less hardners. Also as Minmatar have never been reknowned for there Capacitors it might just have a little trouble running Dual Capital reps (most dreads do for tanking blobs). However it does (like the Moros) have 5 Midslots in which to fit Cap Rechargers (T2, officer or otherwise)
I've heard of Naglfars soaking up the focused fire of whole fleets for so long that the FC has given up and switched targets, but having said that i've been involved in the deaths of more Naglfars than any other dread. -----

another plus to the Amarr and Gallente dreads are when you fill the lows with t2 expanders you can jump BSs, 50k cargo ftw, not even carriers can do that

Are you sure?
I dont have a Moros to test it, but using quickfit and 7 Local Hulls it appears you can only get 46,550m^3 while a repackaged BS is 50,000m^3.
Revelation can *apparently* get 50,617m^3 with Local Hulls, which is *just* big enough, but 617m^3 of jump fuel doesn't sound like it would get you very far.
EDIT: I just read you said T2 expanders, before Revelations they had a bigger cargo increase than Local Hulls, but now I'm affarid they dont (they are the same as T2 cargo-size wise)

the T1 will go down in price i assume, T2 will probably stay moderately expensive. Who knows though, considering the calibration points, its not like you can throw bunches of T2 rigs on a ship. ----------------------------------------------- I got something to put in you. at the *** bar. |

I wouldn't fit 3 of them, but 1, I would definatley consider. Until they come out with faction/deadspace hardener rigs. Extra fuel capacity is always nie, and hardener rigs stack. Maybe a cargo, cap size, cap recharge? dunno if you can put those 3 rigs on, but it is a thought.

Someone already mentioned that you should go for the one that will help you in more then just 1 place.
If you are Caldari speced mainly, getting BS 5 will not only help you on your way to getting a Dred; it'll help your Raven.
Stick with what you currently fly.

The Amarr dread also has the smallest cargo bay if I remember correct.
In my Nagl I can fit ammo for many hours fighting and still have 7 cycles of stronth. I even have spare room for liquid ozone if the cyno fails.
I have heard people in Moros and in Revs having problems fitting stront and ammo unless the have descent skills.

I don't know how you make your ISK but why not ask yourself 'What am I going to do with a Dread?' before you spend all that time and money.
I don't know any way you can use one earn ISK so there's no way it will pay for itself.
